Summary

Expedition is currently one of the best farming strategies in Path of Exile 2. It offers insane profit with extremely low investment — just a map and a logbook. In a recent test, running Expedition for roughly 8-9 hours generated over 25 raw Divines per hour from currency drops alone, not counting Chaos Orbs, Perfect Exalts, gems, and other loot. With a strong character, total profit can easily reach 50-60+ Divines per hour — or you can simply find POE2 Currency for sale to skip the grind. This guide covers everything you need to properly juice Expedition maps: tablet setups, waystone crafting, Atlas passives, rumor management, and in-map rune strategies.

Path of Exile 2 Expedition Farming Guide: Best Endgame Setup to Make 50-60+ Divines Per Hour

Part 1: What Changed in Patch 0.5

The biggest change in Patch 0.5 is that Alder Saga has been removed from the base game. It no longer spawns in the event league. Instead, it now spawns randomly on Grand Expedition maps. The properties of Alder Saga — guaranteed all-five rune slots and a small chance to spawn on each logbook — make it incredibly powerful for Expedition farming.

Without Alder Saga, you won't push 100 Divines per hour like in previous leagues. However, Expedition remains extremely strong, and the raw currency generation is still top-tier.

Part 2: Tablet Setup

Tablets are critical for juicing Expedition maps. Here's the optimal configuration:

Premium Setup: 3x Eradicated Tablets

Note: Expedition tablets currently do not work for Grand Expeditions. Only use these tablets if you're running regular maps.

Use 3x Eradicated Tablets with "Map has 2 additional random map modifiers"

This modifier rolls from 1 to 2 — on average, you get +2 for about 2 Divines

Priority modifiers:

Monster Effect

Increased Number of Rare Monsters

Item Rarity (acceptable but worse than the top two)

Three-mod tablets are expensive but ideal for your giga Expedition maps — those rare all-five, six, or seven moon maps. If you get one of those maps, it's worth investing in premium tablets because the rewards are insane.

Budget tip: Don't pay more than 10 Divines per tablet. A good two-mod tablet with increased rare monsters and monster effect will still give solid profit at a fraction of the cost.

Budget Setup

If your build isn't very strong or you want lower investment:

Use two-mod tablets with any combination of:

Increased Number of Rare Monsters

Monster Effect

Monster Rarity

Loot will be worse, but maps will be much easier and tablets will be nearly free

Since your investment is so low, you'll still make good profit

Part 3: Waystone Setup

Waystones are the foundation of your map juicing. Here's how to craft and use them:

Crafting 8-Mod Waystones

Start with clean Tier 15 Waystones

Use Omen of Chaotic Quantity and Omen of Chaotic Rarity

Apply six mods to the map

Use a Chaos Orb for a pure 70% monster effectiveness waystone

Corrupt afterward for a chance at 8 mods

If it downgrades to Tier 14, vendor it — only run Tier 15 and above

Modifier Priorities

Best: Monster Effect

Good: Monster Rarity

Okay: Item Rarity

Avoid: Pack Size

Tier 16 vs Tier 15

Tier 16 waystones are acceptable but expensive and unnecessary. The Grand Expedition atlas node provides +1 area level, meaning Tier 15 maps still drop item level 82 exceptional bases. You can reach area level 81 with Tier 15 maps in Grand Expeditions.

Pack Size Strategy

Avoid pack size on your waystones. Use Omen of Chaotic Quantity, avoid pack size, and corrupt after. If you get a map with 6-mod pack size, reroll it. Only keep pack size if it rolls on an 8-mod map.

Part 4: Atlas and Master Setup

Master Selection: Jado vs Doryani

Jado (Highest Profit):

Unexpected Missions

Eastern Knowledge

Partial Translations

Keen Appraisal

These four nodes are the best options. Eastern Knowledge in particular gives a 10% chance for double rerolls on rune rewards, choosing the better option.

Doryani (Safer Choice):

Evolution Pressure

Improved Calibrations

Volatile Connections

Stitch the Flesh

If your build is weaker, Doryani is viable. You'll get two revised prayer expeditions instead of one, which helps keep your maps alive. This is important because you don't want to break your Grand Expeditions — that would be bad for profit.

Atlas Passives

For the Expedition Atlas tree:

Desert is the best choice for maximum loot

Forest is viable if your build struggles

Desert boosts monster effectiveness significantly, making maps harder but more rewarding

Key nodes to prioritize:

Additional Verisium remnants

Extra Runic modifiers

Increased monster effectiveness

Faster explosive chains

More remnant choices

Monster effectiveness is particularly valuable because stronger modifiers create substantially larger reward explosions.

Part 5: Rumor Management and Logbooks

How to See More Rumors

Logbooks can contain up to six rumors, but only three are visible at a time. To see hidden rumors:

Pin the logbook

Move any item in your inventory

This cycles through potential hidden rumors

If four or more Grand Expedition rumors are revealed, use an Alder Saga. If only three or fewer appear, run a normal Utrit Saga.

When to Use Alder Saga

Alder Saga should be used on logbooks that have at least four normal rumors, excluding unique maps or boss rumors. Bosses and unique rumors consume expedition slots by guaranteeing a boss map instead of a Grand Expedition.

When used correctly, Alder Sagas are self-sustaining. In a 13-hour test, starting with one Alder Saga ended with three.

Unique Maps and Boss Rumors

The only two valuable unique encounters are:

Fallen Skies: Guarantees a perfect flux. Perk flux is around 4 Divines. Use Vision of Paradise to run this map twice for two guaranteed Alder Sagas.

Star Drinker: Spawns Utrid, which can drop a quest item for Rune Seeker's Call, worth around 900 Divines. This can only drop once per character.

Part 6: In-Map Rune Strategy

The Core Concept: Proliferation

The goal of every Grand Expedition is simple: pick up the highest-value purple runes and proliferate them into 7+ rune remnants.

Proliferation means certain runes transfer their bonuses to future remnants in the chain

At the start, you don't care if your runes are 4-6 slots — you want as many good runes as possible

Towards the end, you want a lot of 7+ rune combinations for maximum loot

Best Runes Tier List

Tier

Runes

Notes

SS

Opulent

The only golden rune. Doubles loot. Rush to it if possible.

S

Power, Death, Bond, Oath

Very strong proliferation runes

A

Time, Rebirth

Rebirth is the only blue rune worth noting

B

Other purple runes

Can reroll if only 3-5 slots

C

Other blue runes

Generally worthless

Important: Runes do not stack. If Time is already proliferated, another Time rune is useless. You want one of each.

Rerolling Remnants

Use Liquid Verisium to reroll undesirable remnants. This is free and self-sustaining — you'll always have more than you need.

After the first reroll, the option is randomly selected rather than chosen

Always reroll 5 or fewer rune remnants if they don't have good purple runes

Always keep 7+ rune remnants if they're near the end

The Opulent Rune

Opulent is the single most important rune. Without it, loot is substantially worse. If Opulent is in the middle of the map, rush toward it. If it's at the very end, you may not be able to reach it in time.

Map Objective Bonuses

Some maps have increased monster effectiveness or increased rarity as objectives. These are worth hitting if you have spare explosives. They aren't worth going out of your way for if it means missing rune slots.

Part 7: Build Requirements

Expedition is hard content. Your character needs to be strong enough to handle:

13-mod T16 maps

Verisium modifiers on every monster

White mobs with 10-15 additional modifiers (stronger than 200% delirious content)

Minimum requirements:

Most builds need at least a Headhunter before starting

Flame Blast, Oil Grenade, and Gas Arrow builds are strong and don't need Mageblood or Headhunter to start

A Headhunter character is recommended for juiced Grand Expeditions

Warning: Many Expedition maps allow no mistakes. If you die, the map is often over. Running expensive content without enough defenses can become extremely costly.

Path of Exile 2 Expedition Farming Guide: Best Endgame Setup to Make 50-60+ Divines Per Hour

Conclusion

Expedition remains one of the most profitable and low-investment farming strategies in Path of Exile 2. With proper juicing — premium tablets, 8-mod waystones, Jado master setup, and smart rune proliferation — you can consistently earn 50-60+ Divines per hour. The key is understanding rune transfers, managing your Alder Sagas, and having a build strong enough to handle the content.
