Summary
Expedition is one of the strongest currency farming strategies in Path of Exile 2's 0.5.5 event league. It combines low investment with extremely high potential returns, making it an excellent endgame option for powerful characters. With the right Atlas setup, Tablets, Waystones, and Remnant choices, experienced players can push Expedition profits toward 50–60+ POE 2 Divine Orbs per hour.
That figure should be viewed as a high-end benchmark rather than a guaranteed income rate. Expedition has considerable RNG, and individual maps can produce very different results. The key to making the strategy consistently profitable is learning how to build strong Grand Expeditions and maximize the value of Runic Remnants.
Why Expedition Is So Profitable in 0.5.5
The 0.5.5 event introduced an important change to Expedition. Out of Saga has been removed from the normal Expedition setup and now has a chance to spawn randomly on Grand Expedition maps.
Although this lowers the strategy's maximum potential compared with the previous league, Expedition remains extremely profitable. Its biggest advantage is the low investment required. You mainly need your maps and Expedition Logbooks, while the resulting encounters can provide Divines, Chaos, Perfect Exalts, Perfect Chaos, gems, and other valuable Expedition rewards.
Over a long farming session, raw Divine drops can already generate substantial returns. Additional currency and valuable items then push the overall profit much higher.
Set Up Your Expedition Tablets
Tablet selection is one of the most important parts of optimizing Expedition. For your strongest Grand Expedition maps, use three Eradicated Tablets.
Prioritize Monster Effect
Eradicated Tablets can provide additional random map modifiers. The most desirable options generally include Monster Effect and Increased Number of Rare Monsters.
Monster Effect is the standard choice for a strong build because it increases the difficulty and reward potential of Expedition encounters. If your character cannot comfortably handle the extra difficulty, Monster Rarity is a safer alternative.
Item Rarity is also useful, but it is generally less desirable than the main monster-related modifiers.
Three Tablets should primarily be used on particularly valuable Grand Expedition maps. If you find an exceptional map containing a large number of powerful Moon Remnants, additional investment can be worthwhile.
However, avoid overspending on Tablets. Expedition's biggest advantage is its low entry cost, so excessive Tablet prices can unnecessarily reduce your profit.
Optimize Your Waystones
Your Waystones should support the same strategy by increasing the value of Expedition monsters.
Focus on Monster Effect and Rarity
Monster Effect should generally be your first priority, followed by Monster Rarity and then Item Rarity.
A practical approach is to prepare a large batch of Waystones, use an Omen of Chaotic Quantity, and corrupt them afterward. There is no need to spend excessive currency perfecting every individual map.
Pack Size can be useful, but it should be treated selectively. An eight-mod map with Pack Size is worth keeping because it already has a large number of modifiers. Otherwise, maps with strong Monster Effect or Rarity modifiers are generally sufficient.
The goal is to maintain a steady supply of profitable maps rather than spending too much on individual Waystones.
Choose the Right Atlas and Master Setup
Your Atlas should improve the strength and reward potential of Expedition encounters.
Monster Effect or Monster Rarity
Monster Effect is the standard option for strong characters. If the difficulty becomes excessive, Monster Rarity provides an easier alternative.
For the Expedition setup, Desert is the stronger option, while Forest can be used if you need an easier experience.
Expedition Atlas investment should also improve monster life, increase the number of valuable Remnants, and increase the quantity from Runic modifiers. These bonuses become particularly powerful when combined with strong Remnants later in the Expedition.
Jato or Doriani
Jato is the preferred Master for this strategy. Useful options include Unexpected Missions, Eastern Knowledge, Partial Translations, and Keen Appraisal.
Doriani is a viable alternative for weaker characters. Its setup can provide additional Expedition opportunities and make the content more forgiving.
The important principle is to match the setup to your character. A safer Expedition that you can complete consistently is more profitable than an aggressive setup that repeatedly causes you to lose maps.
How to Build a Profitable Grand Expedition
The most important skill in Expedition is understanding how Runic Remnants interact.
Do not simply activate every Remnant as soon as you encounter it. Instead, plan your route around creating strong modifier chains that eventually produce powerful late-map encounters.
Save Strong Remnants for Later
Early in an Expedition, prioritize useful purple Remnants and use them to build toward stronger combinations.
Lower-level Remnants are not automatically bad. A four- or five-level Remnant can be valuable if it provides a strong modifier that can proliferate onto future Remnants.
As you progress through the map, your goal is to accumulate powerful modifiers and finish with multiple seven-plus Remnants.
Seven-, eight-, and nine-level Remnants are especially valuable because they generate more waves of enemies and allow more modifiers to influence the resulting monsters.
The basic process is:
1. Find valuable purple Remnants early.
2. Use good modifiers to build a chain.
3. Avoid wasting powerful Remnants too soon.
4. Push those modifiers toward seven-plus Remnants.
5. Finish with the strongest combinations possible.
