The best approach is to collect future materials whenever you see them. If you have enough stash space, do not sell a rare material simply because it belongs to a later stage. Keeping these items can save several raids later.

Before starting a farming run, also leave some space in your stash and backpack. You will find other loot along the way, and full storage can make material farming much less efficient.

2. Stage 1 and Stage 2 Material Farming

Stage 1 is a good opportunity to build a stockpile. Focus on containers and locations with mechanical or technical loot rather than checking random buildings across the map. If a required material can be crafted from common components, crafting it may also be faster than searching for it directly.

Stage 2 introduces a more noticeable material grind. Sentinel Firing Core and Rocket Thruster are important items to watch for. Concentrate on industrial and mechanical loot areas and use short routes with several containers close together.

If you find a rare project material early in a raid, consider extracting instead of taking unnecessary fights. Losing a valuable item can force you to repeat the entire search.

3. Stage 3 and Stage 4 Farming Priorities

Stage 3 requires materials including Ruined Parachute. Buried City is a useful place to focus your searches because you can work through multiple containers without spending too much time traveling.

You can also continue collecting earlier requirements during these runs. Combining objectives is much more efficient than making separate raids for every material.

Stage 4 can be the most frustrating if you wait until the final days. Materials such as Sensors, Vaporizer Regulator, and Advanced Electrical Components should become your main priorities. Look for areas with electronic and technical loot, and avoid unnecessary PvP when carrying a rare project item.

4. Use Safe Pocket and Efficient Farming Routes

The Safe Pocket is especially valuable for rare materials. If you find an item that has taken several raids to obtain, protecting it should be more important than collecting additional common loot.

Short and repeatable farming routes are usually better than long runs across the map. Search dense loot areas, extract when necessary, and repeat the route.

You can also combine Ascending the Mountain with Expeditions, Trials, or other objectives. A raid that progresses several tasks at once provides much more value.

5. What to Do With Leftover Materials

After completing the project, check your stash before selling everything. Rare and versatile materials can still be useful for crafting and future progression, while duplicate common components can be sold when storage becomes limited.

Ascending the Mountain is much easier when treated as a long-term farming project.
