Torchlight: Infinite Sandlord Season - 10 Strong Starter Builds Recommended
Apr-21-2025 PST Torchlight InfiniteWith the Sandlord season for Torchlight: Infinite right around the corner, I wanted to give you a rundown of 10 builds that I think are going to be great for jumping into the new content. Now, while these might not all end up as the top-end meta builds, they'll get you through the campaign and well on your way into the endgame systems.
A huge bonus for this season is that every character except the brand-new one will be free to play, so you're free to choose whatever suits your style. Torchlight: Infinite is super flexible and forgiving for trying out new stuff. Alright, let's jump into the builds!
1. Train Rayne (Rayne 1) – The Motorcycle Build
A true classic. This build centers around Burst procs and Savage Charge, giving you that signature “train” feeling as you charge through mobs. Whirlwind did take a nerf with a -30% movement speed penalty, but this opens the door for Savage Charge to make a triumphant return.
What makes this build special this season is the new Demolisher support, which allows you to hit max channel stacks and shoot out the Demolisher Charge, without even stopping. And yes, if you use the motorcycle cosmetic, you're shooting motorcycles at enemies. Welcome to the first ARPG where that's a thing!
The build is straightforward, beginner-friendly, and strong all around. Worth considering if you want something simple and satisfying.
2. Rayne 2 – Fury's Onslaught & Berserking Blade
Rayne 2 is getting some love this season with a brand-new hero trait: Fury's Onslaught. You now get a Seething Spirit that automatically attacks when you're using a melee skill in Berserk mode, and rage mechanics are now more forgiving — rage is no longer consumed passively and is only spent via attacks.
This fixes a major annoyance from previous seasons, where being disarmed during Berserk made movement clunky. With this fix, you can use Leap Slam and other mobility tools while berserking. Add in improvements like 40% more rage gain, and you've got a solid, rage-fueled melee character that feels better than ever.
Also worth noting: two-handed weapons are getting a lot of buffs this season, and melding hero traits between Rayne 1 and 2 might unlock even more power.
3. Carino 2 – Ice Lances and Blazing Bullets
Carino 2 has long been a powerhouse character, especially for endgame farming like Supreme Showdown 20. He's a bit clunky, but incredibly strong once you scale him.
Popular skills like Ice Lances and Blazing Bullet are still solid for leveling. He did take some nerfs to his overall kit, but even a nerfed Carino 2 is likely to be one of the cheapest and most effective routes to crushing endgame bosses.
For players looking for a high-reward, low-cost build that scales incredibly well, Carino is a solid pick yet again.
4. Youga 1 – Chain Lightning Beast
Youga 1 continues to be a fan-favorite, and Chain Lightning is still an explosive way to level up. Even with the new movement speed penalty (-30%) on I'm an Illusion, the core mechanics remain largely untouched.
The build benefits massively from cheap weapon upgrades and early access to erosion-related damage. With new belt mods and legendary items supporting erosion mechanics, Youga 1 is looking extremely viable for the early to mid-game — and possibly beyond.
Easy to understand and powerful with minimal investment, this is another great campaign crusher.
5. Youga 2 – Mind Control and Erosion Power
While Youga 2's Mind Control also took the -30% movement speed nerf, this build remains incredibly strong — if a little more expensive.
The biggest buffs come in the form of new legendary gear, especially the Scepter of Excommunication, which gives intelligence, erosion damage, and erosion skill level. These stats multiply together nicely and provide a solid boost.
If you don't mind spending a little more time in treasure troves or farming for legendaries, this one has huge endgame potential. It's not the fastest campaign clearer now, but it's worth it if you're aiming for erosion synergy.
6. Erika 1 – Berserking Blade and Thunder Spike
Erika 1 didn't start off last season as a front-runner, but she ended up performing surprisingly well. The Thunder Spike skill took a small nerf in its numbed effect, but overall, Erika 1 still slaps.
Her playstyle feels smooth, responsive, and visually satisfying. Plus, she didn't take any major direct nerfs to her mechanics, so she retains most of her raw power. A great pick if you like flashy melee attacks with solid mobility.
7. Erika 2 – Multistrike Mayhem
Erika 2 was also a sleeper hit last season, benefiting from multistrike mechanics. However, the 75% multistrike chance was removed this season, so she's facing a bit of a nerf.
Even so, Erika 2 remains a powerful leveling option. She's got quick, clear, solid bossing potential, and can scale quite well with the right gear. While this might not be as broken as it was in the previous season, it's still very capable and enjoyable.
8. Gemma – Flame Smash and Conversion Builds
Although not part of Don's top list in this video, Gemma deserves a shoutout. She's often one of the better elemental conversion characters, and Flame Smash or Frostfire Conversion builds remain viable.
If you like the idea of applying burn, freeze, and other effects with elemental scaling, keep Gemma in your back pocket. Especially if erosion or corrosion mechanics don't interest you, she's a great alternative.
9. Moto – Summoner Simplicity
Another often overlooked starter is Moto, the minion master. While there haven't been major updates to Moto in this patch, minion builds tend to be very beginner-friendly and low-gear reliant.
You can play safe, clear from a distance, and slowly snowball into a powerful farming character. Moto is great for players who prefer minions doing the work for them, and with all the chaos from Sandlord's erosion and corruption themes, staying out of danger might be the smart play.
10. New Character – The Corrosion Queen (Name TBD)
While details are still under wraps due to NDA, we do know that the new character is focused on erosion/corrosion damage, and much of the new legendary gear appears to be designed around her mechanics.
If you're into bleeding-edge content and don't mind being a bit of a guinea pig, this might be the most exciting option to explore. Gear like Scepter of Excommunication and erosion-based synergies hint at a very poison/dot-style build, which is something Torchlight hasn't fully leaned into until now.
She may be expensive or gear-gated early, but potentially a monster late-game farmer.
