How I Obtained The CRA Set For Every Character in MapleStory Artale
If you’ve played MapleStory Artale for any length of time, you know how crucial CRA gear (Chaos Root Abyss gear) is for progressing into mid-to-late game content. The CRA set — comprised of the Hat, Top, Bottom, and Weapon — serves as the first major power spike after leveling past the 150 range and is often considered the baseline for bossing and farming efficiency.
For many new and returning players, the idea of farming a CRA set for a single character feels like a big commitment. But after countless runs, trades, and some lucky drops, I managed to obtain the full CRA set for every one of my characters in Artale. Here’s how I did it, the grind involved, and the lessons I learned along the way.
What Is CRA Gear and Why It Matters
Before diving into how I collected these coveted items, let’s quickly cover what CRA gear is and why it’s so important in Artale:
CRA (Chaos Root Abyss) is a set of bosses: Chaos Pierre, Chaos Von Bon, Chaos Crimson Queen, and Chaos Vellum.
These bosses drop some of the most powerful early-to-mid game gear in the form of CRA equipment.
Each piece of CRA gear provides high base stats, good potential lines, and can be Star Forced for massive stat boosts.
Having a full CRA set is essentially the first true milestone for anyone looking to clear harder bosses like Lotus, Damien, or Hard Magnus.
Step 1: Prepping My Mules for CRA Access
To challenge the Chaos Root Abyss bosses, each character needs to meet certain prerequisites:
Level 180+
Clear Normal Root Abyss bosses on that character
Complete the Root Abyss questline
For my main, this was already done. But for my mules, it meant hours of grinding and clearing pre-quests. I made sure each mule was equipped with basic pensalir gear, an okay weapon, and some meso boosters from my main. Having EXP coupons, 2x events, and farming during Burning World periods made this much more bearable.
Step 2: Weekly CRA Runs on All Characters
Once prepped, I began doing weekly CRA runs on every character. Since the drop rates for CRA gear aren’t guaranteed, it meant relying heavily on bonus coupons and drop rate gear on my main to trade or gift gear to my mules.
Von Bon and Pierre are usually easier and can be soloed with lower DPS.
Crimson Queen and Vellum are trickier but manageable once you learn the mechanics.
I prioritized clearing Von Bon and Pierre first on weaker mules since they drop Hat and Top/Bottom pieces, which are most critical. Using guild buffs, Boss Rush potions, and party recruitment with random players made a huge difference for my lower-tier characters.
Step 3: Trading and Market Flipping for Missing Pieces
Despite consistent bossing, some CRA items just refused to drop. So I turned to the Free Market and Auction House to fill in the gaps.
I farmed mesos in Artale El Nath and Future Perion for hours on my mules during 2x meso events.
Sold Event items, Spell Traces, Flames, and Accessory Scrolls to fund CRA purchases.
Bought CRA Hat/Top/Bottom at fair market rates when possible.
This way, even characters that struggled with Vellum or Queen could still get their full set after a few weeks.
Step 4: Sharing CRA Gear via Account-Shared Storage
A little-known trick — in Artale servers and some regions, you can move un-equipped CRA items between characters on the same account using shared storage. This meant:
When I got duplicate CRA drops on my main, I stored them for my mules.
Swapped better Star Forced gear to newer characters without re-running bosses.
This was a massive time-saver, especially for my weaker characters still building their stat lines.
Step 5: Star Forcing and Potentialing
Once all my characters had their CRA sets:
I invested meso into Star Forcing each piece to at least 12 stars.
Used Event Cubes and Meister Cubes to reroll potential lines.
Focused on %STR, %DEX, %INT, or %LUK depending on the class.
I prioritized 3L Epic/Unique lines, and using Familiar Drop Rate boosts made rerolling much smoother during special Cube sale events.
Lessons I Learned Along the Way
Multicharacter preparation pays off. Even if a mule seems weak now, prepping it for CRA lets you multiply your weekly boss drops.
MapleStory Artale Mesos are king. Being able to buy missing CRA pieces saves you literal months of time.
Guild buffs and Boss events make hard fights like Vellum infinitely more manageable.
Drop Rate gear stacks well. Having 100%+ Drop Rate on your main massively improves CRA farming for trade or storage.
Don’t neglect Star Forcing. Even +10 or +12 stars on a CRA set transforms your character’s combat power.
Final Thoughts
Farming the full CRA set for every character in MapleStory Artale was one of the most rewarding grinds I’ve ever done. Not only did it massively boost my account’s overall strength, but it also made meso farming and event participation far easier.
If you’re thinking of starting your own CRA farming project, start small, prep your characters early, and never miss your weekly runs. Trust me — seeing every character on your roster geared with CRA is worth every meso and minute you’ll spend.
