Diablo 4 Season 7: Poison in the Roots Quest Guide

Mar-07-2025 PST Diablo4

One of the major features in Diablo 4 Season 7 is Witch powers, but you can't start gaining these new abilities until you've completed the "Poison in the Roots" quest. This seasonal quest is crucial to unlocking the Season of Witchcraft's unique mechanics, as it helps your character attune to new magic through a profane ritual. However, the puzzles in this quest can be tricky for many players to solve.

Diablo 4 Season 7: Poison in the Roots Quest Guide

Completing "Poison in the Roots" puts you on the fast track to earn Lost Witchcraft powers in Diablo 4 Season 7. While you have to create a new character for this seasonal content, you should be able to level up quickly to access this new feature. By collecting Grim Favors and Restless Rot, you can increase your character's power with unique Witchcraft skills that you can modify throughout your adventure.

How To Solve The Brazier Puzzle

Begin The Quest With A Difficult Pattern

Once you gather enough Grim Favors at the start of Season 7's main questline, you can begin "Poison in the Roots." This quest takes place at the Tree of Whispers, where three witches are trying to enact a ritual to help your character gain the first of many powers. After a brief moment when you arrive, the witches have set up the ritual, but they need help to see it all the way through.

The ritual circle will have three braziers and three writhing snakes assembled by the witches. Your first step is to light the braziers in a specific order to invoke the Old Name of the Tree of Whispers. If you were paying attention to what the witches were saying, you would already see each of them voice a part of the Old Name in the right order as part of the ritual.

The correct order to light the braziers is:

Ayh - Bottom Left Brazier

Yew - Bottom Right Brazier

Oun - Top Brazier

Solving this light puzzle will cause the ritual to begin in earnest, so be prepared to face some enemies soon after you ignite the final brazier. According to one of the witches, you have to defend the circle as soon as you solve the brazier puzzle. Utilizing the new Season 7 class changes, you can easily use your character's skills to defend the ritual circle.

How To Get & Use Nangri Blood

Make Sacrifices And Spread Blood In The Right Place

The moment you light the last brazier, you need to attack the snakes in the ritual circle to kill them quickly. These snakes drop something called Nangri Blood when they die, along with basic health potions to fight against the incoming enemy waves. Yet, when you collect all three vials of this Blood, there are no real instructions about how to use it within the ritual.

You have to trace the blood around the perimeter of the ritual circle to continue the rite. You can start doing this automatically by walking up next to any one of the braziers you just lit. From here, just walk in a circle to connect a ring of blood around the ritual circle. You'll know this worked when one of the brazier's flames goes out and the area begins to rumble.

At this point, the true ritual will start now that you have completed all the steps needed to initiate it. Be prepared for an intense fight at this section of the quest, but be ready to follow another set of objectives while you fend off hordes of enemies.

How To Finish Poison In The Roots Quest

Defeat Waves Of Enemies

When the Nangri Blood has been spread, enemies will start spawning all over the area, trying to disrupt the Ritual of Cleansing. You have to prevent enemies from getting inside the ritual circle, as any foe left in the circle unchecked could taint the process. A gray bar within the circle will slowly deplete as the ritual continues, giving you a good indication of how long your character needs to stay on defense.

Enemies spawn on all sides, so try to stay close to the ritual circle so you can defend it from any angle. This part of the quest is much easier to accomplish if your character has large AoE attacks that can decimate the smaller enemy groups before they even reach the ritual. Some classes, like the Necromancer, can use their minions like shields to create obstacles for enemies to get through first.

None of the witches can be attacked at this point, so you don't have to worry about them dying throughout the ritual. Near the end of the ritual, a mini-boss shows up to command the remaining minions, who continue to spawn in large numbers until the ritual finishes. Once the gray bar in the ritual circle becomes empty, all enemies on the battlefield die instantly, yielding a variety of rewards.

Leaving the ritual circle will put you into another conversation with the witches, who mention that this ritual could be the first of many. You receive a Legendary Cache for completing the ritual, which gives you an opportunity for some great loot. You may even grab one of the new unique items in Diablo 4 Season 7 from this Cache, but even if you don't, the gear you earn will likely still be very strong.

If you have Diablo 4 gold and Diablo 4 items in your inventory, you'll be able to upgrade your gear, buy potions, and access better loot, which is essential for tackling tougher enemies as you progress through the season. Whether you're after Legendary items, Unique gear, or useful crafting materials, getting the best gear can make a huge difference in your survivability and damage output.
