Crafting in Path of Exile 2 has changed forever. Gone are the days of slamming three or four essences onto gear. The new system is simpler, requires fewer resources, but introduces more gambling. Here’s how to turn ordinary items into monsters.

Crafting a Weapon (Quarterstaff Example)
Step 1: Find the Right Base
Always start with the highest possible item level (hold Alt to see it). Higher item level = better potential rolls. For elemental damage, look for bases with built-in lightning, cold, or fire damage. For physical builds, search trade with filters: quarterstaff, magic, increased physical damage, minimum item level 70, max price 20 exalted orbs. A magic item with only one stat is ideal—you can instantly augment it for a strong suffix like attack speed or +skills.
Step 2: Apply Your One Essence
Choose carefully—you only get one. On a lightning damage base, add fire or cold damage for safe DPS. For physical, use a Greater Essence of Abrasion to add bonus physical damage. Desecration (the new chaos orb mechanic) can add 106% increased physical damage but could also give elemental damage—this is where the gamble begins.
Step 3: Force a Prefix with Omens
Before adding more modifiers, use an Omen of Sinistral Necromancy (costs ~9 exalted) with a Preserved Jawbone at the Well of Souls to guarantee a prefix. Prefixes offer crazy damage scaling. For high-stakes crafts, an Omen of Abyssal Echoes (99 exalted) lets you reroll the desecrated modifier once.
Step 4: Finish with Exalted Orbs
After desecration, add two exalted orbs. If you’re feeling lucky, use a Perfect Exalted Orb with an Omen of Greater Exaltation to add two random modifiers at once. Finally, add quality and sockets with physical runes. A successful craft can yield 600+ DPS weapons selling for 5–15 divine orbs.
