Summary:
Skull and Bones Year 3 Season 2: Crimson Waters is now live, bringing a major wave of new content to Ubisoft's pirate adventure. The latest season introduces a powerful new Large Ship, a dangerous enemy fleet, expanded gear customization, new combat mechanics, faction warfare content, and several returning limited-time events.
The centerpiece of the update is the Junk, a new DPS-focused Large Ship designed around escalating Fire damage. At the same time, Captains can face the mysterious Abyssal Fleet, unlock stronger Adept Mods, buy Skull and Bones Silver and experiment with new Seasonal Perks.
Here's everything you need to know about Crimson Waters.
The Junk Is the New Large Ship
The Junk, also known as The Relentless, is the fourth Large Ship introduced to Skull and Bones. It is built for aggressive players who want to maintain pressure throughout a battle.
The ship comes with 85,000 Hull Health, 38 gun ports, and a top speed of 21 knots. Its defining feature is its ability to build up Fire-based effects as combat continues.
Its signature perk, Infernal Embers, applies a stacking debuff that lowers an enemy's Fire and Armor resistance. Once the effect reaches its maximum level, the Junk gains increased reload speed and weapon damage. Nearby allies can also benefit from part of the effect.
The upgraded version, Infernal Seas, takes the mechanic even further. After reaching maximum stacks, the Junk's next successful hit triggers a powerful explosion that deals heavy Fire damage, with a cooldown preventing repeated detonations.
This makes the Junk particularly appealing for players who enjoy sustained DPS and aggressive fleet combat.
Modification Transfer Makes Gear Builds More Flexible
Crimson Waters also introduces Modification Transfer, giving Captains greater control over their equipment.
At the Blacksmith, players can use Ascension Flux to extract a specific modification from an item in their inventory and transfer it to another piece of gear.
There is an important trade-off: the original item is destroyed during the process.
Despite that limitation, the system should make build crafting much more deliberate. Instead of keeping multiple Ascended items simply because they contain useful modifications, players can move desirable effects onto equipment that better fits their preferred setup.
The Abyssal Fleet Invades the Indian Ocean
A mysterious new enemy force has entered the Indian Ocean.
The Abyssal Fleet is hostile to both players and existing factions, creating unpredictable encounters across the world. Its ships come in different archetypes, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.
That means Captains cannot rely on a single strategy for every encounter. Reading the battlefield and adapting your weapons and equipment will be essential when fighting the new fleet.
Heralds of the Abyss Challenges World Tier 4 Players
Players who have reached World Tier 4 can take on an exclusive event called Heralds of the Abyss.
The event turns into a large-scale fleet battle, with waves of specialized Abyssal ships attacking players. Surviving these encounters eventually leads to a confrontation with the Abyssal Herald, a powerful elite boss created specifically for the event.
Successful Captains can earn exclusive modifications along with Abyssal Essence.
The new currency can be taken to Blackwood and exchanged for cosmetics and Adept-Mod-related rewards.
New Adept Mods Boost Popular Weapons
Crimson Waters adds new Adept Basic Mods and Adept Advanced Mods, providing stronger versions of existing modifications.
The new Adept Mods are available for:
Culverins
Demi-Cannons
Long Guns
Ballistas
Players can primarily obtain these upgrades through the Heralds of the Abyss event or purchase them from Blackwood using Abyssal Essence.
For players focused on optimizing endgame builds, these stronger modifications could become an important part of the seasonal progression loop.
Impetus Introduces New Seasonal Perks
Another major addition is Impetus, a combat resource generated through specific actions during battles.
Captains can build Impetus and then spend it to activate powerful Seasonal Perks. Depending on the perk selected, players can increase damage, improve survivability, or provide support to nearby allies.
The available options include:
Relentless Force rewards accurate attacks by increasing weapon damage during rapid-fire sequences.
Unstoppable Force converts sailing speed into healing and additional damage, creating a strong option for aggressive movement-focused builds.
Mending Order consumes Impetus to create a large healing area that can restore nearby allies.
Firepower Order temporarily allows every shot to deal weakpoint damage after spending Impetus.
These perks add another layer of decision-making to combat and give different builds more room to specialize.
Phoenix's Talon Returns to Faction Warfare
Faction warfare also receives new content with the return of Li Tian Ning, who leads Phoenix's Talon into battle against the Compagnie Royale.
Phoenix's Talon ships feature a distinct visual identity, along with an Ascendant elite ship equipped with a new perk.
Defeating these enemies can contribute toward new end-of-war rewards, including a new Firework.
Two Limited-Time Events Are Coming Back
Crimson Waters also brings back two popular events for a limited time: Darktide Lullaby and Requiem of the Lost.
Darktide Lullaby introduces Drakon's Jaws, a Burning Torpedo weapon, alongside the Reaper's Revel Set ship bundle. Its bosses also return with new elite affixes to make encounters less predictable.
Requiem of the Lost adds the Drowning Hellion, a Flooding Demi-Cannon weapon, as well as the Soul Harvest Set and Rogue Stringer Set ship bundles.
The Brig Gets Its Own Ship Campaign
Later in the season, players will also be able to participate in a dedicated Brig Ship Campaign.
The limited-time campaign features challenges and a dedicated reward track containing progression materials and upgrade resources. Completing the track ultimately awards a Brig Ship Deed.
The deed can then be exchanged at the Shipwright to add the Brig to your fleet.
Skull and Bones Crimson Waters Is a Major Season Update
With a new Large Ship, hostile enemy fleet, deeper gear customization, stronger modifications, new combat perks, faction warfare and returning events, Skull and Bones Year 3 Season 2: Crimson Waters significantly expands the game's seasonal progression.
The Junk gives DPS-focused Captains a new reason to rethink their fleet setups, while Modification Transfer and Adept Mods provide additional ways to refine endgame builds.
For players looking for fresh challenges, Skull and Bones Silver, the Abyssal Fleet and Heralds of the Abyss offer some of the most dangerous encounters introduced this season.
Whether you're interested in shipbuilding, PvE combat, faction warfare, or simply collecting new equipment, Crimson Waters gives Skull and Bones players plenty of reasons to return to the Indian Ocean.
