Dune Awakening Walkthrough: How to Join House Atreides
In Dune Awakening, the choice to "Join a House" is one of the most important early steps on your character's journey. It kicks off the Faction-based Journey Quests, where you align with either House Harkonnen or House Atreides. Each faction offers unique storylines, rewards, and roleplay opportunities, shaping your identity on Arrakis.
If you've chosen to side with the noble House Atreides, this walkthrough will guide you through the first three quests-The Missing Spy, Test of Prowess, and Test of Cunning-before you move on to the decisive Test of Loyalty.
Getting Started: The Anvil
Your adventure begins at The Anvil, a bustling tradepost located in the Eastern Vermillius Gap. On your very first arrival, you'll be thrown into the heart of political conflict.
Here, you'll witness a heated exchange between two faction representatives:
Levenbrech Maxim Kazmir, a harsh and domineering figure from House Harkonnen.
Lieutenant Anton Tolliver is a steadfast officer representing House Atreides.
This cutscene sets the stage for your faction journey. Once it concludes, you'll be able to speak with either Kazmir or Tolliver. Both men offer you the same initial contract, so your choice here doesn't lock you into a faction just yet.
The first quest is called The Missing Spy.
Walkthrough Part 1: The Missing Spy
Accept the contract from either Kazmir or Tolliver.
Travel south to Aren's Post, a small settlement in the desert.
Just east of the post, look for a rock formation with a climbable northern ledge.
On top, you'll discover an abandoned camp. Investigate it by listening to the recording left behind.
This recording reveals the fate of the missing spy, giving you the information you need. Once you've uncovered the truth, make your way back to The Anvil.
If you want to continue on the Atreides path, hand the completed contract to Lieutenant Tolliver instead of Kazmir.
Don't worry-your choice is still reversible. The true faction commitment comes later.
This completes The Missing Spy and unlocks the next quest: Test of Prowess.
Walkthrough Part 2: Test of Prowess
Tolliver now needs proof that you're not only loyal but also capable of holding your own in combat. He'll assign you the quest Test of Prowess, where your task is simple:
Defeat 10 Slavers and report back.
Where to Find Slavers
The Slavers roam throughout Jabal Eifrit, which lies north of The Anvil. While they can spawn across the region, the best farming spot is Runaway Station.
Head to Runaway Station and explore the surrounding camps.
Smaller Slaver camps also exist just west of the station-these are excellent backup locations if other players are farming nearby.
Once you've taken down 10 Slavers, return to Tolliver in The Anvil. He'll acknowledge your combat skills and immediately assign you a new challenge: Test of Cunning.
Walkthrough Part 3: Test of Cunning
While the Test of Prowess measured your strength, the Test of Cunning focuses on your ability to investigate, observe, and outwit your rivals.
Travel east into Hagga Rift, a rugged region under Harkonnen influence.
Make your way into the Harkonnen bulwark, pushing deeper across the chasm below.
On the north side of a large stone pillar, you'll find a small open chamber. Inside stands a single Harkonnen soldier named Lanov.
Speak with Lanov and gather intelligence from this encounter. Then, report back to Lieutenant Tolliver in The Anvil with your findings.
Completing this step marks the end of the Test of Cunning. Now only one more trial remains: the decisive Test of Loyalty.
What Comes Next: A Test of Loyalty
At this point, you've proven your strength and your cleverness. All that remains is the most important trial of all-your loyalty.
Tolliver will present you with the quest A Test of Loyalty. This is the pivotal choice where you officially align yourself with House Atreides. Completing this quest not only advances the Atreides storyline but also finalizes the overarching Join a House objective.
From here, you'll embark on faction-specific missions, gaining access to new allies, rewards, and the unfolding political drama that defines life on Arrakis.
Tips for Completing "Join a House" (Atreides)
Stock up before traveling: The desert regions are dangerous. Bring plenty of water, supplies, and weapons when venturing into Aren's Post, Jabal Eifrit, or Hagga Rift.
Watch for other players: Since Dune Awakening features shared spaces, expect PvP encounters in contested regions like Slaver camps.
Don't stress early choices: Handing the first quest to Kazmir doesn't lock you into Harkonnen. Only A Test of Loyalty finalizes your faction allegiance.
Soak in the lore: The Atreides path emphasizes honor, loyalty, and strategy. Take your time with dialogue and cutscenes to appreciate the deeper narrative.
Final Thoughts
Joining House Atreides in Dune Awakening is more than just picking a faction-it's a commitment to a way of life on Arrakis.
