Diablo 4: The Ultimate Guide to Farming Uniques

Diablo4 Jun-22-2026 PST

Summary

Uniques are the biggest hurdle for any build this season. Mythic uniques are fairly common drops, and legendaries are extremely malleable, making them relatively easy to perfect. Uniques, however, are the only item type that are now harder than they were before in Diablo 4.

Part 1: Why Uniques Are Harder

The main reason is that regular uniques now roll their affixes at random instead of having set affixes. Mythic uniques still have fixed affixes, always rolling the same four affixes with only greater affix variation. Regular uniques, however, cannot be enchanted to change an affix, and they also cannot have affixes added, removed, or changed at the Horadric Cube. This makes them the hardest item to perfect, requiring both four correct affixes and ideally greater affixes among them. Yet uniques are usually absolutely vital to your build's power.

Part 2: Target Farming from Lair Bosses

The majority of uniques are targetable within the loot pool of specific lair bosses. Each unique has a much higher chance of dropping from its associated boss's hoard chest than anywhere else.

Boss Trophies and the Horadric Cube: Any boss trophies you get from random activities can be exchanged at the Horadric Cube. Five trophies from a specific boss pool transmute into one unique from that boss's pool. This gives you many free rolls at a unique from a boss you need to target farm.

Maximizing Lair Boss Farming: In the lair boss war plan tree, take the two left nodes. Both give plus one monster power to lair bosses, increasing difficulty but also increasing reward quality and chances of greater affixes and ancestrals. The second left node gives an extra hoard chest, letting you use two keys per kill and doubling your farming speed.

The middle nodes unlock Nemesis Lairs, random events that spawn after killing a lair boss. These give multiple lair bosses to kill for free with no key cost, resulting in lots of extra uniques, though less targeted.

The Dog of Astaroth: This war plan node lets you get Astaroth loot from regular Nightmare Dungeon completions. It rolls as a chance of spawning each time you approach a boss, not each time you start the dungeon. You can die or enter and exit the boss room repeatedly for fresh spawn chances, consistently getting one dog per dungeon.

Part 3: The Beast in Ice Mass Farm

This is a potent bugged interaction between Infernal Hordes and war plan nodes.

Required Nodes:

Out of the Cold (lair boss tree): Beast in Ice can attack during nightmare dungeon boss fights, dropping bonus loot from his pool.

Fearless Conviction (nightmare dungeon tree, red path): Makes the previous node persist through instances.

Infernal Hordes nodes: Doomsayer for extra Aether, nodes making offerings share categories (for more Aether Lord spawns), and total chaos side for more frequent chaos waves.

The Three-Step Process:

Activate any Nightmare Dungeon sigil and teleport in.

Open your map and teleport to any boss lair.

Use an Infernal Hordes compass to open it instantly.

This sequence makes the Hordes count as a Nightmare Dungeon. Every boss-tier enemy has a chance to drop Beast in Ice uniques. Once triggered, every Aether Lord spawns always drops a pile of uniques.

Loot Management: So much loot spawns that half would disappear when teleporting. Pick up loot into your inventory, drop it manually on the floor, repeat, then bring everything back to town in groups.

Part 4: Belial and Other Methods

For some lair bosses, farming Belial is better than the base boss. Belial lets you select which boss's loot pool to pull from, has fewer immunity phases, and drops higher quantity loot per kill. However, Belial kills cannot spawn Nemesis lair portals.

Part 5: Untargetable Uniques

For uniques not in any boss pool, there are two solutions.

Enhanced Primordial Dust Method: This turns a common item into a unique. If you start with an ancestral common, it becomes an ancestral unique that can roll greater affixes. Go to the Purveyor of Curiosities and spend obols on the slot you want. Keep only ancestral items below legendary rarity. Remove affixes at the Cube until they become common items, then upgrade them to uniques.

This works best for slots with few options. For example, a warlock's only unique two-handed sword is Anathema of the Primes, so you can roll two-handed sword uniques repeatedly until you get a perfect one.

Part 6: High Quantity Unique Farming

Echoing Hatred: This rare activity, triggered by drops mostly from Undercity runs, rewards high rarity uniques at the end.

Uber Mephisto: If you can kill him and open his chest, he drops a decent pile of high rarity loot.

Mythic Tribute of Armaments: Excellent for high quantity unique drops in the Undercity. The portal pranksters node gives bonus rewards per prankster killed. You can craft these tributes from lower rarity armaments tributes at the Cube.

Nemesis Lair Portals: Running lair bosses normally, with the middle war plan nodes unlocked, gives Nemesis Lair chances. The first node unlocks basic Nemesis Lairs. The second gives a chance for greater Nemesis Lairs inside. The last guarantees the ultimate mega Nemesis Lair, Call of Evil, which requires Belial materials but drops massive loot.

Part 7: Unique Charms

Unique charms drop from every endgame activity, especially on higher torment, with highest density from lair bosses. If you have an ancestral version of a unique that can become a charm, you can craft it manually at the Cube using three random unique charms as fodder plus the ancestral item. This is the easiest way to get specific unique charms rather than relying on RNG drops. To speed up this process, many players buy Diablo 4 Gold from MMOEXP to fund multiple crafting attempts without worrying about material shortages.
