Dune Awakening: CHOAM Salvage Rights Event Guide
With Chapter 2 of Dune: Awakening quickly approaching, Funcom is rolling out fresh activities to keep players engaged before the launch of the Lost Harvest DLC. Among these limited-time features is the CHOAM Salvage Rights event, a contract-based activity that rewards players with unique gear and collectibles.
At first glance, you might not even realize the event is active. Unlike traditional MMO events that bombard you with alerts and pop-ups, Dune: Awakening is far more subtle. Aside from rockets streaking through the sky, there's little in-game notification that something special is happening. That makes it easy to miss-unless you know where to look. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know: how to start the event, where to find the right NPCs, how each contract works, and what rewards you can earn before the September 10 cutoff.
How to Start the CHOAM Salvage Rights Event
The event runs only for a limited time, ending on September 10, which also marks the release of the Lost Harvest DLC. If you want the exclusive rewards, you'll need to act fast.
When the event is live, the world of Arrakis changes slightly. You'll notice tall rock columns housing rocket encampments that constantly fire into the skies. Despite this visual clue, the rest of the desert feels business as usual until you visit the right tradeposts.
To begin, head to one of three locations:
Pinnacle Tradepost - Eastern Shield Wall
Griffin's Reach Tradepost - Hagga Basin South
The Anvil - Eastern Vermillius Gap
At these points of interest, you'll usually find a new NPC near the contract vendor. This character serves as the CHOAM Merchant, offering event-specific contracts. If the merchant doesn't appear in one tradepost, don't panic-just travel to another of the listed POIs until you spot them.
Once you find the NPC, you'll be able to accept three event contracts, all of which must be completed to finish the CHOAM Salvage Rights event.
All CHOAM Salvage Rights Contracts Explained
Each contract focuses on different aspects of survival, combat, and exploration in Dune: Awakening. They can be done in any order, giving you the flexibility to approach them however you prefer.
1. Sabotage Kirab Placements
This contract requires you to disable enemy turrets scattered throughout Hagga Basin. First, clear out nearby enemies to make the area safe. Then, use your Cutteray tool to paralyze the turret. You only need to sabotage a single encampment to complete the objective, so this mission is quick and straightforward.
2. Make Them Pay
Here, you'll need to take on the Kirab faction directly. The task is to eliminate up to 25 Kirab enemies, which isn't too difficult since they appear frequently on both sides of the Vermillius Gap. Whether you're solo or grouped up, expect steady combat until you rack up the required kills.
3. Retrieve CHOAM Cargo
The final contract focuses on scavenging. You'll be tasked with finding freighters scattered across the sands-look for square-shaped structures resting in open desert areas.
Once you've located a freighter:
Scan the vessel.
Use your Cutteray to cut through the ship's doors.
Retrieve the CHOAM Cargo inside.
While this sounds simple, there are two important considerations:
Cutteray Tier - A Tier 3 Cutteray is highly recommended. It consumes more power but slices through freighter doors much faster, minimizing your vulnerability.
Sandworm Threat - Because freighters rest on open sand, you're an easy target for the massive sandworms. Keep a fast vehicle, like an Ornithopter, nearby to make a quick escape if one appears.
Rewards for Completing the Event
As you complete contracts, don't forget to thoroughly loot nearby chests. Many of these contain Cargo that can be exchanged with the CHOAM Merchant for unique rewards. Accumulate enough Cargo, and you'll be able to purchase:
CHOAM Tech Rifle & CHOAM Tech SMG - 25 Cargo each
CHOAM Tech Sword & CHOAM Tech Pistol - 20 Cargo each
Harkonnen Turret Statue - 35 Cargo
The weapons themselves are variants of standard gear. They don't necessarily have stronger stats or enhanced performance, but their exclusivity gives them prestige value. Carrying one instantly shows other players that you took part in the Salvage Rights event. Meanwhile, the Harkonnen Turret Statue serves as a prized decorative item for those who enjoy personalizing their space.
Tips to Get the Most Out of the Event
Time Management - With the event ending on September 10, prioritize completing contracts early so you have plenty of time to farm Cargo.
Upgrade Your Cutteray - Investing in a Tier 3 Cutteray saves time and reduces risk when looting freighters.
Stay Mobile - Always keep your Ornithopter or another fast vehicle ready. Open desert equals higher sandworm danger.
Group Up - The Kirab elimination contract can be done faster with friends, and having allies makes surviving turret camps and worm attacks easier.
Final Thoughts
The CHOAM Salvage Rights event is more than just filler content-it's a chance to experience new objectives, push your Cutteray to the limit, and collect exclusive weapons and decorations before they disappear. While the missions themselves are fairly straightforward, the time limit and the threat of sandworms add an extra layer of urgency. Having enough Dune Awakening Solari and rare Dune Awakening Items can greatly reduce the feeling of oppression.
If you're looking to stand out in Dune: Awakening and stockpile some rare collectibles before Chapter 2 launches, make sure you don't miss this event. Head to the nearest tradepost, accept those contracts, and claim your share of the desert's spoils before September 10.
