Summary
Expedition is one of the most lucrative mechanics in Path of Exile 2, capable of yielding everything from raw POE2 Currency to the extremely valuable Alder's Legacy worth nearly 300 Divine Orbs. This guide covers everything from zero-budget farming to high-investment strategies, so whether you're looking to stockpile currency for future crafts or simply want to maximize your returns, you'll find a strategy that fits your playstyle.
What You Can Get from Expedition
Expedition offers three main types of rewards: currency drops (tons of valuable orbs and materials), 10-rune remnants that can contain Alder's Legacy, and permanent character boons including +10 maximum Spirit, life and mana bonuses, and even extra passive skill points.
Understanding Expedition Basics
In regular maps, you'll find Expedition encounters with remnant nodes and clusters of red flags. Prioritize red flags, as they have an increased chance of dropping Logbooks worth about 1 Divine each. Flags with two markers have an even higher chance. Also grab valuable remnant rewards like Celestial Alloys and Sagas, plus any high-value currency you see.
The Inventory Trick for Finding More Rumors
You can only see three rumors at a time on the ocean map, but there's a trick to discover more. Move any item in your inventory, then hover over the same area again—the rumors will shift positions. If new rumors appear, you've discovered additional areas.
Example: First look shows "Warm but risky," "Nothing to drink," and "Sulfite." Move an item and suddenly "Starrinker" appears. Move again and "Something fishy" shows up—that's a fourth rumor.
What to look for: "Fallen Stars" guarantees the Moor of Fallen Skies map, which guarantees an Alder's Saga. Areas with 4+ non-boss rumors are ideal for using your valuable Sagas.
Atlas Passive Tree Setup (Jedo)
Use these key nodes: Unexpected Missions for extra juice from corrupted maps, Eastern Knowledge for better remnant value, Partial Translations to benefit from tablets, Keen Appraisal for better exceptional bases, and The Quest Continues so Grand Expeditions gain an extra area level.
Budget Farming Strategy (Zero Investment)
Run regular maps and hunt down red flags for Logbook drops. Don't use any Sagas unless you find exceptional value—sell them instead. Use Logbooks on areas with at least 3 rumors. If you find "Fallen Stars," get a Visions of Paradise tablet. This lets you run the Moor of Fallen Skies twice, giving you two Alder's Sagas instead of one.
Medium Budget Strategy
Use 3 tablets on your Grand Expedition maps with at least 1 Irradiated Tablet for +1 area level. Look for modifiers like Increased Item Rarity and Monster Effectiveness. Irradiated doesn't stack, so only use one. The other 2 can be any type.
Understanding Rune Mechanics
This is the most important concept for Expedition. Runes with a golden border and three spikes above them will follow the chain—applying to all enemies unearthed after that remnant. Regular runes only apply to monsters after that specific remnant, and runes do not stack.
For each remnant, follow this process:
Check rewards first—if there's high-value currency, a Saga, or valuable items, take it regardless of the rune
Check the follow-the-chain rune—if it's an S/A-tier rune, take it even if rewards are mediocre
If both are bad, reroll using Liquid Verisium
Rune priorities: Opulent and Bond are S-tier (Bond gives rare monsters that may transfer mods on death and increased rare spawns). Death and Time are A-tier. Cold, Fire, and Lightning are lowest priority.
