Madden 24 Run Blocking Scheme

Dec-29-2023 PST Madden 24

In the following Madden 24 guide, we'll be looking at the various types of Run Blocking Strategies that are found in the game, as well as real football. There are a total of 3 types of Run Blockings that we're going to focus on; Trap Blocking, Big on Big Block, and Zone Blocking. So, let's begin!

Big on Big Blocking

In the first blocking strategy, we are going to talk about Big-on-Big Blocking. This playstyle is what's taught when beginners start learning to play Madden. Here, the offensive linemen line up, with the defender across on the first level whom they are tasked to block.

In case of no defenders, they move towards level 2 which usually consists of linebackers. This strategy or playstyle is generally used on every football level today, as well as in the game.

Trap Blocking

The second blocking strategy is Trap Blocking. Counter and Power 0 plays are used to run this blocking style. There are also a few plays from the Gun Formation that utilize a form of Trap Blocking. One that comes to mind is the 45 Quick Base.

To effectively use Trap Blocking, the pull guards need acceleration and speed to quickly move and get an advantage over aggressive defenders. The key to perfect Trap Blocking is ball carriers keeping an eye on pull guards, waiting for the perfect timing to run through a created hole.

If the carrier doesn't wait for the chance and rushes the pull guards, there are chances that the strategy won't come into play. Patience is everything. Once the pull guards run through a hole, the carrier can manage to follow him through to easily reach the second or third levels of the field.

Zone Blocking

The third blocking strategy is Zone Blocking. It is a widely spread scheme on the offensive playstyle of football in today's time. Many teams like Texans and Redskins are a perfect example of the Zone Blocking strategy, as it's their main source to move the ball around. The main reason players use this strategy is because it doesn't require the need for a great offensive lineman.

The four different Zone Blocking strategies found in football are Inside Zone, Outside Zone, Stretch, and Iso.

Iso focuses on the midline form of the zone-blocking strategy. Inside Zone focuses on the runner to run between the A and B gaps. That's where the offensive linemen have to push the defenders backward by pushing in the vertical route. Stretch focuses on the gaps between C and D, while Outside Zone focuses on getting the offensive line to move in the lateral route. Here, the blockers are trained to pin the defender inwards, and the running backs can either choose to turn inside if there's an opening lane or directly get to the edge.

The key game to run from anyone who uses these Zone Blocking strategies is by having a defensive read player among the runners. For instance, if you're going with Stretch Zone Blocking, the key defensive player to read is the one running on the defensive end side of the ball. If he takes a rush angle on the outside, the runner needs to cut back inside, and vice versa.

Final Thoughts

To be able to master the different Blocking Strategies in the game, you need to first be familiar with how to make reads and cuts when using the Big-on-Big Blocking Scheme. Good luck and happy gaming to you!
