Madden 26 Season 2 Field Pass: Best Players to Upgrade to 88 OVR

Madden 26 Oct-13-2025 PST

Season 2 has officially arrived in Madden 26 Ultimate Team, and with it comes one of the most valuable parts of MUT: free upgradeable players. If you're wondering which Season 2 Field Pass players are worth prioritizing, you're not alone. Between the welcome pack, fantasy packs, and Devonte Adams via the Team Pass, there are six different players you can eventually get to 88 overall-and later even 90 overall.

Madden 26 Season 2 Field Pass: Best Players to Upgrade to 88 OVR

The question is, who should you upgrade first? Let's break it all down step by step, looking at how the upgrade system works, which players shine the most at 88 OVR, and how to approach this decision whether you're no-money-spent (NMS) or running a stacked squad.

How the Season 2 Upgrade System Works

When Season 2 begins, every MUT player gets a welcome pack that contains two important items:

An 84 OVR upgrade token

A fantasy pack that lets you choose one of the five featured Season 2 players:

1.Cam Ward (QB)

2.Jonathan Allen (DT)

3.Armon Meiu (RT)

4.Dre Greenlaw (LB)

5.Carlton Davis (CB)

In addition, a sixth player, Davante Adams (WR), can be unlocked via the Team Pass. You don't need the premium pass to get him-you'll earn him naturally by playing.

As you climb levels in the Season 2 Field Pass, you'll get more fantasy packs at levels 6, 16, 26, and 36, allowing you to collect all five of the original players if you want.

Ticket Costs

Upgrading a player from 83 to 88 OVR costs about 2,070 season tickets in total. If you use the free 84 token from the welcome pack and the 85 token from the premium pass, the total drops to 1,845 tickets.

Since tickets carry over between seasons, some players will be able to max out multiple cards as soon as they hit level 6.

Why the Premium Field Pass Is Worth It

Normally, we'd tell you to avoid spending money on packs-but the premium field pass is the exception. For about $15, you get:

 Extra upgrade tokens

 Bonus season tickets

Instant rewards (including an 85 OVR token)

This makes upgrading much cheaper and faster, especially if you're targeting two or three players early. If you were ever going to spend a little money on MUT, this is the best value option.

Evaluating the Season 2 Players at 88 OVR

Now let's look at each of the six Season 2 Field Pass players and what they bring to your squad.

1. Dre Greenlaw-LB

Strengths:

89 Zone Coverage, 85 Man Coverage

 85 Hit Power

Solid against the run with 88 Tackle and 82 Block Shed

Weaknesses:

Only 83 Speed (84 on theme team), which can feel slow if you user him

Greenlaw is a standout for anyone who values linebackers that can drop into coverage. He's not blazing fast, but his zone/man ratings make him perfect as an AI-controlled Will linebacker in nickel or dime packages. For schemes that rely on versatile linebackers, he's a great early choice.

2. Armon Meiu-RT

Strengths:

One of the best right tackles in the game right now

Saves coins at a low-priority position

 All 32 team chems

Why upgrade him: Offensive linemen rarely get attention, but having a free, top-tier right tackle that can eventually reach 90 OVR is a huge long-term win. Upgrading Meiu early means you won't need to spend coins on that position until well into November.

If you're focused on building out the trenches for free, Meiu should be near the top of your list.

3. Cam Ward-QB

Strengths:

91 Throw Power (highest in the game at 88 OVR)

Strong short and mid accuracy (85+)

Will eventually reach 93 Throw Power at 90 OVR

 Weaknesses:

Only 79 Speed (80 with team chem), so he's not a scrambler

Release (22) isn't elite but serviceable

Cam Ward is an excellent free quarterback option, especially for no-money-spent players. While he's not mobile like a Michael Vick, his elite throw power makes him a great pocket passer.

If you pre-ordered Jalen Hurts, stick with him for now. But if you don't have a solid QB, Ward is a must-upgrade.

4. Carlton Davis-CB

Strengths:

6'1 height, 86 Speed (87 with team chem)

 88 Zone, 89 Man Coverage

 Strong Press and Play Recognition

Weaknesses:

Lower Agility and Jumping than top-tier corners

Carlton Davis is a great hybrid corner who can play both man and zone effectively. He's tall enough to match up against bigger receivers and gets all 32 chems.

Even when faster corners hit the game later, Davis will remain valuable depth as a CB4 or CB5 while still providing theme team boosts.

5. Jonathan Allen-DT

Strengths:

 90 Strength, 90 Tackle, 90 Power Move

82 Finesse Move (solid for his archetype)

 Good Block Shed (83)Weaknesses:

 Only 67 Speed (70 at 90 OVR)

Allen isn't flashy, but he's a rock in the middle of the line. His strength and power move ratings make him one of the best run-stuffing DTs available early in the season.

If you're prioritizing the trenches on defense, Allen is a solid pick, though slower than some other options.

6. Davante Adams-WR

Strengths:

 6'1, 87 Speed (88 on team chem)

Excellent route running: 88 Short, 89 Mid, 87 Deep

85 Catch, 87 Catch in Traffic, 86 Spec Catch

Why upgrade him: At 88 OVR, Adams is one of the top three WRs in MUT 26 right now. Considering his speed and size, only a handful of receivers (like Tribute Amari Cooper or upcoming Justin Jefferson) are faster or better, and those are either ultra-expensive or not yet available.

Every team needs a reliable wide receiver, and Adams fits that bill perfectly-especially since he's free via the Team Pass.

Who Should You Upgrade First?

There's no "wrong" choice since you'll eventually be able to collect and upgrade all of these players. But your roster situation should guide your priorities:

No-Money-Spent Players:

Cam Ward (QB): If you don't already have a strong quarterback, he's your QB1.

Carlton Davis (CB): Adds reliable speed and hybrid coverage to your defense.

Stacked Teams / Coin-Rich Players:

Armon Meiu (RT): Locks down right tackle for months without spending coins.

Jonathan Allen (DT): Strengthens the defensive line and saves coins.

Everyone:

Davante Adams (WR): One of the best free WRs in the game. A must-upgrade.

The Hidden Value: Team Chemistry

One of the best things about Season 2 Field Pass players is that they all get all 32 team chems. That means:

 +1 Speed

Boosts to key attributes depending on your theme team setup

Even if a player eventually falls out of your starting lineup, you can stash them as depth (CB5, WR5, backup OL) and still benefit from the chem boosts. This makes them valuable long-term, not just in Season 2.

Final Rankings (at 88 OVR)

If we had to rank the players today based on overall impact:

1.Davante Adams (WR)-Elite free wideout, must-upgrade

2.Carlton Davis (CB)-Reliable corner with strong coverage

3.Armon Meiu (RT)-Saves coins and secures your OL

4.Dre Greenlaw (LB)-Great coverage linebacker

5.Cam Ward (QB)-Strong arm, great for NMS teams

6.Jonathan Allen (DT)-Rock-solid DT but slow

Closing Thoughts

Season 2 in Madden 26 gives players a ton of free firepower if you know where to focus. Between fantasy packs, Devonte Adams, and upgrade tokens, you can have two to three 88 OVR starters today if you managed your tickets well.

The key is being strategic:

Build the trenches for free with Meiu and Allen if you already have strong skill players.

Prioritize QB, WR, and CB if you're no-money-spent and need playmakers.

And no matter what, don't sleep on Davante Adams-he's a top-tier WR for free.

As the season progresses and these cards push to 90 OVR, they'll only get better. Making smart upgrade choices now will save you Madden 26 coins, improve your roster, and set you up for success all season long.
