Path of Exile 2 Monk Build Guide: Best Martial Artist Setup for Endgame

POE 2 Jun-15-2026 PST

The Martial Artist Monk has quickly become one of the most satisfying and powerful builds in Path of Exile 2. Combining relentless mobility, explosive damage, and an incredibly smooth progression curve, this build delivers a seamless experience from the opening moments of Act 1 all the way into endgame mapping.

What makes the build special is its unique interaction with the Martial Artist ascendancy. Bells constantly spawn around your character, generating damage opportunities, power charges, and sustain. Once the build comes online, the gameplay becomes remarkably simple: maintain your buffs, spin through enemies with Whirling Assault, drop a Tempest Bell, and watch entire packs disappear.

Here's how the build evolves from leveling to endgame.

Act 1: Building the Foundation

The leveling journey begins with Falling Thunder and a Quarterstaff. Early on, the focus is on speed and efficiency rather than standing still to trade blows with enemies.

One of the most surprising early choices is Entangle. Although it isn't a traditional Monk skill, it allows you to move quickly through zones while vines destroy enemies behind you. Combined with Killing Palm, you gain a reliable source of Power Charges that fuel Falling Thunder's devastating burst damage.

The early gameplay loop is straightforward:

Use Entangle to clear packs while moving.

Jump into enemies with Killing Palm.

Generate Power Charges.

Spend them with Falling Thunder for massive damage.

As additional support gems become available, Rage and Rapid Attacks significantly increase damage output and combat speed.

Another key addition is Wing Blast. This skill excels at priming enemies for stun, allowing you to instantly generate multiple Power Charges against bosses. The combination of Wing Blast, Falling Thunder, and the lightning bonus from Rend creates an impressive burst sequence that melts early-game encounters.

Hollow Palm Changes Everything

Around level 13, the build reaches its first major power spike by acquiring Hollow Palm Technique.

This passive allows the Monk to fight as though wielding a Quarterstaff without actually needing one equipped. As a result, weapon upgrades become largely irrelevant throughout the early game, allowing players to focus on defensive gear and useful modifiers instead.

At this stage, Herald of Thunder becomes the primary Spirit skill, adding significant lightning damage synergy to the build.

Another important addition is Devour. This skill completely transforms the leveling experience by providing:

Reliable Power Charge generation

Healing through corpse consumption

Additional lightning damage through Thrill of the Kill interactions

The gameplay loop becomes even smoother:

Devour → Falling Thunder → Devour → Falling Thunder

This sequence allows players to fly through zones while maintaining constant offensive pressure.

Act 2: The Power of Hollow Focus

Act 2 introduces the Martial Artist ascendancy and one of the build's defining mechanics: Hollow Focus.

After completing the first ascendancy trial, bells begin spawning automatically around your character every few seconds. These bells serve multiple purposes:

Explode for additional damage

Generate Power Charges when consumed by Devour

Provide sustenance through healing effects

The interaction between Devour and the bells is where the build truly begins to shine.

Against bosses, players can start encounters with fully stacked Power Charges simply by consuming spawned bells before the fight even begins. This enables immediate Falling Thunder bursts without any setup.

The build gains another layer of consistency through the Storm Wave and Siphoning Strike combination. Storm Wave applies shock, while Siphoning Strike consumes that shock to generate additional Power Charges.

As a result, Power Charge generation becomes nearly effortless.

By the end of Act 2, bosses often spend more time stunned than actually fighting back.

Act 3: Double Bell Destruction

Act 3 introduces several important upgrades that prepare the build for its endgame transition.

Hand of Chayula becomes available and is linked with Elemental Weakness, dramatically increasing damage against tougher enemies and bosses. Having plenty of POE2 Currency can also help you deal more damage.

Wind Dancer also joins the setup, providing additional crowd control and defensive utility.

The biggest upgrade, however, comes from the second ascendancy: Hollow Resonance.

This passive creates a second bell on the character's back. Every time a critical strike occurs, the bell erupts for additional damage.

Because attacks against Hollow Focus bells automatically crit, the two ascendancy passives work perfectly together. Every bell interaction now creates chain reactions of overlapping explosions.

The result is screen-wide damage that clears enemies effortlessly while also providing sustain and Power Charge generation.

At this stage, the build continues using Hollow Palm, but preparations begin for the eventual transition back to a traditional Quarterstaff setup.

Act 4: Whirling Assault Takes Over

Everything changes at level 41.

Whirling Assault becomes available and immediately replaces Storm Wave and Siphoning Strike as the build's primary damage skill.

This is the moment where the build truly comes alive.

Rather than cycling through multiple abilities, players can simply spin through enemies while maintaining a handful of powerful buffs.

The setup now revolves around:

Whirling Assault

Tempest Bell

Charge Staff

Staggering Palm

Killing Palm

As gear improves, players transition away from Hollow Palm and back into a powerful Quarterstaff setup. Energy Shield and Evasion become the primary defensive layers, replacing the heavy armor focus used during earlier acts.

The new gameplay flow is incredibly smooth:

1. Generate Power Charges.

2. Activate Charge Staff.

3. Maintain Staggering Palm.

4. Spin through enemies with Whirling Assault.

5. Drop Tempest Bells for massive damage bursts.

Although it sounds complex on paper, the gameplay feels fluid and intuitive in practice.

Early Endgame Performance

Once mapping begins, the build feels exceptionally durable and powerful.

With strong Energy Shield, high Evasion, constant mobility, and multiple defensive layers, surviving becomes surprisingly easy. Meanwhile, Whirling Assault and the bell mechanics continue to scale effectively into early maps.

The combination of Hollow Focus and Hollow Resonance remains the core strength of the build, providing automatic damage, charge generation, and sustain without requiring complicated management.

By the time players reach maps, it's entirely possible to have around 1,000 Life, 1,000 Energy Shield, solid Evasion, and enough damage to comfortably clear content while barely slowing down.

For players looking for a fast, durable, and highly satisfying Monk build, the Martial Artist stands out as one of the smoothest progression experiences currently available in Path of Exile 2. From the first Falling Thunder cast in Act 1 to spinning through endgame maps with Whirling Assault, this build delivers power, speed, and fun at every stage of progression.
