Summary

This is one of the most insane league starters I've ever played, going into the 0.5.5 Forbidden Rites event league completely untouched. The Disciple of Varashta obliterates bosses from Act 3 onwards with crazy damage, requires zero unique items, is completely SSF viable, and excels in hardcore due to its amazing endgame defenses. The gameplay is a three-button walking simulator that kills everything in its path—and while you won't need a POE 2 Mirror of Kalandra to make this build work, the currency you save by not buying expensive gear can go toward one later if you want to push the build to its absolute limit. If you want a league starter that makes you feel like you're cheating, this build delivers.

Path of Exile 2 0.5.5 Build Guide: Best Disciple of Varashta League Starter for Forbidden Rites, buy POE 2 Mirror of Kalandra

Part 1: Act 1 — Early Leveling (Levels 1-21)

Our goal is to reach level 21 and complete the Trial of the Sekhemas quickly. The Sorceress has excellent elemental damage on the tree, making grenades the strongest early option.

Key Steps:

Grab Spark from the beach, kill the Miller

In Clearfell, save Renly's skill gem reward

Find the Abandoned Camp chest for a skill gem—cut Frost Bomb (inflicts Elemental Exposure)

After killing Beira, sell loot for your starter crossbow

Use Renly's gem to cut Explosive Grenade —your main damage until ascension

Kill the Devourer for extra support gem—cut Multishot

Crucial: Watch for "+ to level of all minion skills" on helmets, scepters, amulets (use vendor regex)

Save 7,000 gold for respec in Act 2

Use next support gem for Elemental Armament

Upgrade weapon with Artificer Orbs and Storm runes

Boss Tips:

Against Gnar: keep Frost Bomb up, rotate Gas Grenade and Explosive Grenade, use Flash Grenade for blind

Against Candlemass: kill after Gnar while dialogue plays

Part 2: Act 2 — The Power Spike

After reaching the caravan, check vendors for minion gear. Head to the Traitor's Passage and kill Balbala for your ascendancy token. She's annoying with grenades but is the second-last boss before you destroy the game.

The Ascension

Complete the Trial of the Sekhemas and ascend to Disciple of Varashta. Take Kelari's Deception with your first two points—this gives two abilities that will carry you.

The Big Swap

Remove all crossbow skills (control-click)

Store them in stash

Equip all minion gear you've saved (scepter + shield required)

Use the Refund All Passives button with your 7,000 gold

Respec into the minion tree

Equip one of each: Archer, Frost Mage, Arsonist, and Warriors (from Rattling Scepter). Cut Bidding into your Kelari skill, then Magnified Area and Concentrated Area (swap for bosses). Cut Pain Offering to sacrifice minions for buffs.

Your Kelari's Deception deals 50% more damage per consecutive use up to 300% —absolutely insane.

Boss Rotation:

Pounce → shapeshift → Pain Offering → dagger ability → blast with Deception

Part 3: Act 3 — The True Power

At level 31, allocate Archon of Undeath —this buff gives 25% more damage and 200% cooldown recovery from minion command skills.

Key Act 3 Milestones:

Grab guaranteed Lesser Jeweller's Orb in Sarn

Cut Thunderstorm + Living Lightning for extra single-target

At level 36, socket Muster support gem—this grants damage per different minion type

Kill Bog Witch for +30 spirit—add another minion type

Kad Zul: skip elevator sequence by opening portal during "Ride the Elevator" text

Viper: phase skip with ease

Second Ascendancy

Complete the Trial of Chaos for your next two points. Select Ruzhan's Trap —your third damaging ability. This places runes that erupt into fiery tornadoes (damage overlaps).

Cage Bay: kill Captain Hartlin + delirium for +2 passives

Abandoned Prison: take down the prisoner

Folk Upon Your Island: kill shark (Shark Fin reward) and crab (level 4 support gem)

Use crab gem to upgrade Bidding to Bidding 2

Mermaid: phase skip

Shrike Island: kill Scourge of the Skies

Yama: +2 passives + resistance buffs

Arakaali: kill Torvin and Benedictus

Kitava —final Act 4 boss, gets obliterated

Part 5: Interludes — Spirit & Spectres

Interlude 1

Kill Chaos Viper for +40 spirit → add Skeletal Clerics

Interlude 2

Kill ice monkey and bird

Visit Elder Maddox for free Construct and Command

Get your specter: Powered Zealot (lightning ball version) from Etched Ravine

Support with Vial Charges and Pierce (add shock with Jeweller's Orb)

Safety: Stand behind Stormgor during his lightning ability—it can one-shot you.

Worm + scorpion bosses for +2 passives

Selkory's Sanctuary: use Barya for amulet + jewel (aim for +2 minion + spirit)

Help Torbic for access to rare jewelry/scepters

Molten One's Gift for health boost

Qimah

Take the 5% all elemental resistances boon.

Interlude 3

Click omen altars in Blackwood for rare omens

Buy all runes from Ferryman vendor in Holtón

Kill Oswin in Wolvenhold for +2 passives

Final Boss

Asenath and Draven clones —get deleted.

Head to King's March, speak with Hooded One for final +2 passives. Campaign complete!

Part 6: Endgame Priorities

Gear Priorities:

Amulet

+ to minion skills, spirit

Helmet

+ to minion skills

Boots

Movement speed (20%+), resistances

Body

Bossing Rotation:
Maintain Elemental Weakness + Frost Bomb → during Archon of Undeath, chain-spam Deception while weaving Brutality → Trap + Brutality on cooldown

Act 4 complete + Powered Zealot spectre

Transition to energy shield gear

Max spirit for minions

Final Thoughts

his build is SSF viable, requires no uniques, and scales incredibly well from the moment you ascend to the endgame. Minion levels are everything—prioritize +1/+2 gear. Muster is your best support. Archon of Undeath is your boss-killing steroid. Learn the Kelari rotation—it's your main damage source. If you ever decide to push this build beyond SSF and want to buy POE 2 Mirror of Kalandra for the ultimate min-maxing, many players recommend MMOEXP as a trusted place to start, thanks to their reliable service and competitive prices.

Good luck in the Forbidden Rights event league. This build makes you feel like you're cheating. Enjoy.
