Summary

Welcome, exiles! Today we're breaking down what I'm calling the Infinite Herald build – a stat-stacking monster that brings back the glory days of 0.1 herald explosions. This build uses Pillar of the Caged God to achieve massive area of effect through intelligence stacking, enabling Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder to chain off themselves and clear multiple screens with a single click. With this kind of efficiency, you'll farm so much raw currency that there's no reason to buy POE 2 Currency—the build pays for itself in no time. The build is a high-budget mapper that absolutely destroys delirious content, breaches, and even handles pinnacle bosses with ease. Let's dive into the tech.

Core Concept: Stat Stacking with Pillar of the Caged God

The foundation of this build is Pillar of the Caged God. Here's the key line that makes everything work:

1% increased area of effect for attacks per 10 intelligence

Back in 0.1, you could reliably get around 1,000 intelligence, giving you roughly 100% increased area of effect. That was nerfed to half effect, making it harder to get those massive herald chains. This build solves that problem by pushing intelligence to 2,000 – roughly double what was previously available.

Intelligence scales three critical things for us:

Area of effect for attacks (via Pillar)

Flat lightning damage for attacks (via Hand of Wisdom and Action)

Hit pool with mana (via Mind Over Matter)

Strength also matters because Pillar gives 12% increased weapon damage per 10 strength, making every attribute point valuable.

The Herald Chain Tech

The Problem

Previously, Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder could proc each other. This was nerfed – shattering an enemy with a non-herald attack hit will cause an icy explosion, meaning heralds can no longer chain off each other directly.

The Solution: Concussive Runes

A new support called Concussive Runes is the key. When you stun an enemy, it triggers Concussive Runes, which has an excellent attack damage ratio of 531% attack damage. The skill itself can't cause stun buildup and costs ward, so we need a good baseline of ward on our gear.

Here's the loop:

Heralds stun enemies (thanks to stun support gems and chaos damage)

The stun triggers Concussive Runes

Concussive Runes deals attack damage, which counts as a non-herald attack hit

This attack hit can then proc herald explosions

The heralds chain off themselves

Why Acolyte?

Cold damage cannot inherently cause stun buildup, so you'd only be leaning into lightning and fire. Acolyte solves this by adding extra chaos damage that comes with a 900% stun buildup modifier. When you pick up purple flames, you get massive extra chaos damage that almost guarantees stuns, which then freeze enemies, which procs Herald of Ice chains.

Support Setup for Heralds

Both heralds run the same support setup:

Concussive Runes – triggers on stun

Stun – increases stun buildup

Magnified Area – increases explosion radius

Execute – more damage (low life synergy)

Total Stillness – supports the concussive runes trigger

Herald of Thunder loops off itself in delirious maps where Herald of Ice can't chain (delirious monsters don't leave corpses). This makes the build viable in all content.

Main Skill: Fragments of the Past

Our primary skill is Fragments of the Past, a new runic ward skill. It spawns a volcano based on attack damage rather than spell damage, functioning similarly to a totem build. The volcano then spawns additional explosions that trigger the heralds.

This is effectively a one-button build – just use Fragments of the Past and let the heralds do the rest.

Defensive Layers

Hit Pool Calculation

Your effective hit pool comes from multiple sources:

Mana: 4,800 base, overflows to roughly 7,000 with Mana Remnants in maps

Life: 1,000

Ward: 500

Energy Shield: 400

Total effective hit pool in maps: ~9,000

Low Life Tech

We leverage low life with Atziri's Communion on Blink and Dire Strike to reserve life instead of spirit, putting us on low life for Pain Attunement bonuses.

Evasion Option (Winter Owl)

For even more tankiness, swap Quicksilver for a Jade flask with Mageblood and run Winter Owl, which gives increased evasion rating per 10 intelligence. With roughly 2,000 intelligence, this provides 600% increased evasion, putting you near the soft cap.

Gear Requirements

Weapon: Pillar of the Caged God

The most important thing is three sockets for immobilization and double increased stun buildup. Rune master your pillar with base cold instead of the naturally low flat damage.

Helmet: Black Sunrest

Prioritize 15% increased intelligence. Remnants have increased effect is also valuable. Rune mastered with rune accord.

Amulet: Overcorrupted Astramentis

Gives roughly 153 all attributes. Anoint with Serox's Gift.

Body Armor: Warrior Invictus

Rune mastered for ward. Prioritize spirit, all res, and attributes. Fill every free socket with perfect resolve runes.

Boots: Cryptic Leggings

Target the 314 ward base. Prioritize intelligence, strength, increased effect of socketed items, and runic ward.

Gloves: Hand of Wisdom and Action

Overcorrupted with a jewel slot. Rune mastered with 1-12 lightning damage to attacks.

Rings: Vengeance Knot + Colandra's Touch

Attributes, flat damage, and remnants have increased effect.

Mageblood

Double Bismuth flasks are preferred. Quicksilver or Jade options depending on whether you want speed or tankiness.

Jewels

Every jewel should look like this:

Increased intelligence (prefix)

Critical hit chance (suffix)

Critical damage bonus (suffix)

Beneficial prefix (elemental damage, cold damage, chaos damage, etc.)

You'll run roughly 10 sapphire jewels plus the glove jewel slot.

Passive Tree

Key Nodes

Purple Flames and Archon of Chula – core ascendancy nodes.

From Nothing (Resonance) – enables efficient pathing to key nodes.

Spaghettification – all attributes for the stat stacker.

Against the Darkness – 4% increased intelligence with either strength or damage is extra.

Crystallized Immunities – immune to chill.

Apocalypse – guarantees heralds always crit (30% reduced damage is negligible).

Mind Over Matter – hit pool based on mana.

Pain Attunement – low life damage bonus.

Voices (2-socket version) – more jewel sockets.

Megalomaniac – prioritize Insightfulness plus another useful notable (Barbaric Strength, Titanic, etc.).

Weapon Set Tech

Put collection range on weapon set 2 to save passive points. Enter maps in weapon set 2 to ensure proper flame collection.

Remnant Effect Math

Baseline Acolyte gives 50% from the skill and 50% from ascendancy = 100%. Support gives 40%. With 7 baseline flames, this equals roughly 17% damage is extra chaos.

With helmet remnants (15% increased effect) and Diala's Desire, we push this to 20% damage is extra chaos per flame, capping at roughly 200% damage is extra at 10 stacks.

Gameplay Strategy

Mapping

The build excels in dense content – breaches, delirious maps, and abyss. Herald of Ice chains on corpses, and Herald of Thunder takes over in delirious content. With big pack size, you can clear multiple screens with one click.

Bossing

The build handles pinnacle bosses but is more of a mapper than a dedicated bosser. Use Archon of Chila for the extra damage it provides. The volcano's tornadoes spawn on top of bosses, making phase transitions quick.

Important Notes

Do not run Herald of Thunder and Herald of Ice together without Concussive Runes – they won't chain.

Shortfuse is mandatory – the delay without it makes the build feel terrible.

Enter maps in weapon set 2 – this saves passive points on collection range.

Budget Considerations

This is a high-budget build. The core items – Pillar of the Caged God (3 sockets), Astramentis, Hand of Wisdom and Action, Mageblood, and Voices – represent significant investment. However, the build delivers exceptional performance for the cost, handling the hardest content in the game with ease.

Conclusion

The Infinite Herald stat stacker brings back the most satisfying herald gameplay Path of Exile 2 has seen, leveraging Concussive Runes and 2,000 intelligence to enable self-chaining explosions. With a 9,000 effective hit pool, incredible clear speed, and enough damage for pinnacle bosses, this is one of the strongest mapping builds available. Forget about POE 2 Currency for sale—with this build, you'll generate so much wealth naturally that buying currency becomes completely unnecessary.
