Summary
Expedition has quietly become one of the most profitable farming strategies in Path of Exile, largely because almost nobody is running it. The result is extremely low supply of boss logbooks and inflated prices that dedicated farmers can exploit. In a recent three-hour test run, this strategy generated over 200 divines in raw profit—roughly 67 divines per hour. To fund your scarabs and Astrolabes upfront, you can buy POE currency and jump straight into the farm. This guide breaks down the complete setup, from scarabs and Atlas passives to map selection and loot filtering, so you can replicate the farm yourself.
Why This Farm Works Right Now
Before investing in this strategy, understand why the prices are so high—and why they may not stay that way.
Reason 1: Almost nobody plays Expedition. On the Atlas tree, Expedition is beaten in low popularity only by Wildwood areas and Lab. Supply of boss logbooks is extremely low, and it's even lower this league because beast splitting is gone.
Reason 2: The prices are arguably inflated. You can spawn these bosses with much cheaper logbooks, too. The current premium reflects scarcity, not intrinsic value.
Realistic expectations: The 67 divines per hour figure is a fishing strategy with a wide profit range. Remove the luckiest drops (a Dying Sun div card and an Aura of Price logbook) and the farm still returns around 50 divines per hour—but half of that relies on the remaining boss logbooks. If those move to more realistic prices, expect closer to 30 divines per hour, which is still solid for how unpopular the mechanic is.
Core Principle: Maximize Logbook Drops
Logbooks drop from runic monsters and can be increased with remnants. The entire strategy revolves around maximizing two things:
The number of runic monsters you blow up
The number of implicits on each logbook (more implicits = more chances at boss spawns)
The Scarab Setup
Slot | Scarab | Purpose |
1 | Expedition Scarab of Infusion | Forces all logbooks to have 4 implicits instead of 2-3 |
2 | Expedition Scarab of Rune Finding | Increases runic monster markers |
3 | Expedition Scarab of Rune Finding | Stacks more runic monsters |
4 | Expedition Scarab of Veridian Powder | Increased explosive radius, more runic monsters per map |
5 | Expedition Scarab of Monstrous Lineage | More magic pack size |
Why these choices: None of these scarabs significantly increase Expedition difficulty, which mostly comes from the remnants you blow up. The fewer dangerous remnant mods you have to deal with, the better.
Alternative for strong builds: The Expedition Scarab of Archaeology adds two more upsides and downsides to every remnant. This increases difficulty dramatically but offers more rewards. Only use it if your build can handle it.
Other options: A cartography scarab or glittering scarab can work in the fifth slot since Expedition drops quite a few uniques.
Map Preparation
Waystone Requirements
Roll 8-mod corrupted maps through a strict filter. Expedition is hard enough on its own, so avoid adding unnecessary difficulty.
Look for:
Increased magic monsters
Increased rare monsters (if it doesn't significantly raise the price)
Avoid: The top-left quadrant of the Atlas tree, which has poor War Reward outcomes.
Best Map Layouts
Dunes is the recommended choice—open layout with consistent explosion coverage.
Alternatives:
Jungle Valley: More quantity and currency rewards for Wards
Etched or Ivory Temple: Forces Expedition into certain rooms
Ice Scythe Graveyard: Good for domination
Any open layout works, or layouts that force Expedition into contained areas.
Forcing Expedition Every Map
Use Runic Astrolabes to guarantee Expedition spawns on every single map. This is essential for consistency.
Important: The Expedition Scarab of Horrific Powder helps here. You need to blow up at least half of the remnants for it to succeed and grant free War Rewards. Failing any of them means losing the bonus.
Sometimes failure is unavoidable—for example, a damage immunity remnant sitting directly in the middle of your explosion zone.
Don't forget: Collect your War Rewards after the last map when there's an exclamation mark over Eagon, then apply a new Astrolabe.
Atlas Tree Priorities
Node | Importance | Reason |
Buried Knowledge | Critical | Extremely important for logbook drops |
Extreme Archaeology | High | One big boom saves time |
Notables around Extreme Archaeology | High | Synergy with the above |
Ancient Decay | Optional | Faster clear speed |
Tuition in Delve nodes (top right) | Recommended | Better vendor currency |
Synthesized Stability | Required | Allows running Astrolabes on the same map repeatedly |
Note: Since you're using Astrolabes, you don't need any Expedition chance on the Atlas tree.
Map effect and pack size: Grab all you can.
Additional nodes: Some extra scarab nodes or whatever else suits your build.
Exarch vs. Eater
Choose Exarch. The invitations are close to a Divine right now, and it's stable profit otherwise.
Heist Integration
Recommendation: Take the "Beautiful Socha" node for Huck. You can give him high skill in the Rogue Harbour after unlocking him.
Heist on an Error Head: Basically a free aura as soon as you open a Heist cache. It also unlocks enchanted blueprints worth up to 5 divines. Consider taking some other Heist nodes as well.
Build Requirements
The tester used a Winter Orb build following Face Place's guide (without Creeping Frost). Freezes prevented most incoming damage, and the build has excellent clear.
Best builds for Expedition: Damage over time builds perform best.
Mods to avoid:
Cold damage immunity (if running cold)
Cannot be chilled
Hits cannot be critical strikes
Note: Even avoiding these, some bad combinations are unavoidable. No build is perfect for Expedition.
Useful Mastery
Chest open caster mastery: Expedition generates a ton of chests to open after each explosion. If you don't use spells, spam-click a channeling spell on any open key to take advantage of it. This also helps with Heist caches.
Map Execution Walkthrough
Apply Astrolabe before entering
Check minimap immediately for Expedition location
Pick up along the way: Heist caches, shards, mercenaries
Place detonator in the middle of the Expedition area
Check bottom-right for bad mods before detonating:
Four white stats grouped together
Cold immunity (yellow text)
Anything starting with "Hits" (crit immunity)
Position detonator away from dangerous mods
Clear everything, pick up all loot, go next
Pace: Around 100 seconds per map is achievable. The test run averaged just over 1.5 minutes per map across 110 maps.
Results: The Actual Numbers
Run stats: 110 maps in just under 3 hours
Costs
Item | Cost |
Maps (8 chaos each) | 880 chaos |
Scarabs and Astrolabes | 1,155 chaos |
18 Sextants | 2,034 chaos |
Total | ~4,069 chaos |
Revenue
Boss logbooks (sold within 20 hours):
Aura of Price logbook: 45 divines (price dipped)

Total from logbooks: 128 divines
Other loot:
Charts repriced: 1 divine and 1,026 chaos

Raw profit: Over 212 divines
Net profit: Slightly over 200 divines
Per hour: 67.26 divines
Adjusted Expectations
Scenario | Divines/Hour |
Full run (with lucky drops) | 67 |
Remove Dying Sun card and Aura of Price logbook | ~50 |
Boss logbooks at realistic prices | ~30 |
Additional Profit: Expedition Artifacts
Don't overlook the Expedition artifacts you accumulate. These can be turned into additional profit later through vendor exchanges.
Important Disclaimers
Prices are volatile. The rare drops especially can swing significantly.
This is a fishing strategy. Average profit has a wide range.
Check current prices before committing. If the farm has crashed, the description of the original video will note it.
Supply is low because nobody runs this. If the strategy becomes popular, prices will drop.

Final Thoughts
Expedition boss logbook farming is currently one of the highest-return in-map strategies in Path of Exile, precisely because it's so unpopular. The low supply of boss logbooks and the removal of beast splitting have pushed prices to artificial highs.
This won't last forever. As more players discover the strategy, prices will normalize toward the 30 divines per hour range. But even at that level, it's a solid farm for any build that can handle Expedition's remnant mods.
The key is speed and consistency: force Expedition on every map with Astrolabes, maximize runic monster count with scarabs, and blow up as many remnants as possible without dying. Do that, and the logbooks—and the divines—will follow. If you'd rather spend less time grinding and more time running juiced maps, MMOEXP is a trusted platform where you can POE buy currency with fast delivery, secure transactions, and competitive prices.
