Summary
Path of Exile 2 is approaching one of its most important stages yet. With Gamescom on August 25, GGG Live on August 27, ExileCon on November 7–8, and the expected 1.0 launch toward the end of 2026, Grinding Gear Games has several major announcements to distribute.
The key question is not simply what will GGG reveal? It is when will each piece of Path of Exile 2 be revealed?
Based on the information currently available, the biggest possibilities include PoE 2 0.5.5, a new class and weapon type, Trials updates, Acts 5 and 6, the 1.0 release date, and the first details about the 1.0 league mechanic. To adapt quickly, buy POE2 Currency and build a flexible stash that lets you pivot when the new content drops.
Why the August 27 GGG Live Announcement Matters
On August 21, GGG announced that its August 27 presentation would preview new information about Path of Exile 2 and 0.5.5.
The wording is particularly interesting. Mentioning both Path of Exile 2 and 0.5.5 could indicate that GGG has more to show than a standard patch update. While this should not be treated as confirmation, GGG has previously used carefully worded announcements to build anticipation around larger reveals.
That creates an interesting marketing puzzle because several major events are happening within a few months of each other.
The Four Major Marketing Opportunities
The current timeline includes:
Gamescom: August 25 onward
GGG Live: August 27
ExileCon: November 7–8
Path of Exile 2 1.0: Expected toward the end of 2026, with December widely speculated
GGG also has several unfinished pieces of PoE 2 to reveal, including new classes, additional Trials content, Acts 5 and 6, the 1.0 date, and the launch league.
Gamescom Could Deliver the Biggest Reveal
Gamescom is by far the largest audience opportunity in this timeline. The event reaches hundreds of thousands of physical attendees and has an enormous digital audience across its platforms.
Compared with ExileCon's much more focused Path of Exile community, Gamescom gives GGG access to a substantially broader gaming audience. That makes it an ideal place to showcase something immediately understandable and visually exciting.
For that reason, one strong prediction is that Gamescom will feature the Duelist and Swords.
Why the Duelist and Swords Make Sense
Path of Exile 2 currently has eight of the planned 12 classes available. GGG has also indicated that the original expectation of having all 12 classes ready for 1.0 has changed, meaning the game could potentially launch without every planned class.
However, the Duelist and sword weapon type are already among the most recognizable missing pieces.
A Gamescom reveal could therefore introduce the Duelist alongside sword gameplay and potentially allow attendees to experience a limited playable demo. Even a relatively small demonstration could create substantial attention because players would immediately understand the significance of a new class and weapon type.
If GGG does not have the Duelist ready for a playable demonstration, Act 6 could instead become the Gamescom gameplay showcase.
What Could Be Revealed at GGG Live?
The safest prediction for the August 27 GGG Live presentation is PoE 2 0.5.5.
Balance changes, unique items, system updates, and other details surrounding the patch are natural material for GGG Live. The bigger question is whether the presentation also addresses the game's remaining Trials content.
Trials and the Missing Third Trial
Path of Exile 2 currently has two major Trial experiences, while another planned Trial remains missing.
The existing Trials have also received significant criticism, giving GGG a reason to experiment before 1.0.
One possibility is the return or introduction of Trials of the Ancestors (TOTA) in 0.5.5. Rather than immediately treating it as a permanent final system, GGG could use it as an experiment: introduce the content, observe player reactions, and use that feedback to determine its future.
Alternatively, GGG could focus on improving the existing Trials of Chaos and Trial of Sekhemas instead.
Either way, Trials are an important area to watch during the 0.5.5 reveal.
Why Acts 5 and 6 Could Be Saved for ExileCon
ExileCon has a much smaller physical audience than Gamescom, but it is specifically built around the Path of Exile community.
That makes it an excellent location for a major story and endgame reveal.
The strongest prediction is that Acts 5 and 6 will be showcased at ExileCon.
