Summary
Starting a new Path of Exile 2 league can be tough, but this guide covers two powerful options—Poisonburst Arrow Pathfinder and the Splinter of Loratta Spear Build (a backup that turned out insane)—with tips to smooth your journey from Act 1 to endgame. If you need extra resources to gear up faster, consider using POE2 Currency buy options to accelerate your progress. Note that Splinter of Loratta is a unique spear that Always Poisons on Hit and bypasses the normal poison stack limit.
Part 1: Poisonburst Arrow – The Starter
The Snapshotting Tech (Still Works!)
One of the most important mechanics for both builds is Remnant Snapshotting. Here's how it works:
If you enter a zone with your weapon swap set to the remnant range setup, it snapshots that entire weapon set for the entire zone.
This means your pickup range stays active even after switching weapons.
How to use it:
Enter a zone with Weapon Set 1 active (the one with remnant range nodes).
Weapon swap to your damage setup.
The remnant pickup range from Set 1 remains active for the whole map.
If you enter a map and the snapshot doesn't work (the pickup range is small), you need to leave the zone, re-enter with the correct weapon set active, and it'll reset properly.
Early Leveling Tips (Acts 1-3)
This is where most players struggle. The Poisonburst build is weakest in Acts 1-3, but these tips will help:
Act 1: Use Lightning Arrow + Lightning Rod
Poisonburst Arrow has terrible single-target damage early on. Lightning Arrow actually has decent single-target damage and works much better in Act 1 . recommends this exact approach.
Recommendation: Level with Lightning Arrow and Lightning Rod until you reach level 14.
Level 14: Unlock Toxic Growth
At level 14, you gain access to Toxic Growth—your primary single-target solution .
The problem: Toxic Growth requires high poison damage to burst the pods. If your damage is too low, you might actually be overriding your own pods by spamming it, losing damage.
Solution: Keep Toxic Growth at a low level until you have higher damage (around level 40 with Splinter Heart). You can also run Gas Arrow (unlocked at level 22) to blow up pods faster .
Level 22: Gas Arrow
Gas Arrow auto-procs your Toxic Growth pods . The rotation becomes:
Vine Arrow → Gas Arrow → Spam Toxic Growth → repeat Gas Arrow when duration expires
Key Passive Nodes
The build doesn't truly take off until you grab the poison nodes. Pay special attention to:
Escalating Toxins: Up to 100% increased poison duration for each poison inflicted recently .
Building Toxins: Targets can be affected by +1 poisons (though with reduced duration) .
Vile Wounds: 33% increased damage against poisoned enemies.
Level 40 Power Spike
Once you hit level 40 and get access to the Splinter Heart, the character stops struggling. You'll likely never struggle again after this point. One player reported doing their T16 and Ash at level 80 with this build.
Archon of Shila – Endgame Ramping
This is where the build really starts ramping.
Complete the Ash kill to unlock Archon of Shila.
The character gains insane single-target damage and good clear thanks to Poisonburst with Herald of Plague and Herald of Blood.
Trade league tip: If you're in trade league, Asency trials are cheap (or even free) right now—take advantage and unlock Archon early.
Gem Priority
According to , your gem priority should be:
Priority | Gem |
Quality | Toxic Growth > Poisonburst Arrow > Vine Arrow > Gas Arrow |
Links | Toxic Growth > Poisonburst Arrow > Vine Arrow > Gas Arrow |
Important: Before you acquire Persistent Ground II support, avoid flat fire damage on gear—it will ignite bosses and instantly pop your Gas Arrow clouds prematurely .
Leveling Ascendancy Order (Pathfinder)
Overwhelming Toxicity
Path Seeker
Running Assault
Part 2: Splinter of Loratta – The Backup That Became S-Tier
This build started as a backup plan but turned out to be absolutely ridiculous. Here's what makes it so strong.
What Does the Weapon Do?
The Splinter of Loratta has two defining properties :
Modifier | Effect |
Always Poison on Hit | 100% chance to poison on every hit—no poison chance needed on any ability |
Unlimited Poisons | Any number of poisons from this weapon can affect a target at the same time |
Deal no Elemental Damage | You can't deal elemental damage—sounds bad, but we bypass this |
The "Downside" – And How to Bypass It
"Deal no Elemental Damage" sounds terrible, but it has another avenue of scaling that's ridiculous.
Most of your damage comes from Purple Flames (Archon of Shila), which give "Elemental Damage as Extra Chaos Damage." Even though the weapon prevents elemental damage, the damage gain as chaos still applies—a clever way to bypass the downside.
The result: You stack flat damage on rings and gloves, get infinite poisons, and scale poison duration on the tree. No crit required.
