The WoW Forever stress test opens for a limited time on October 21, 2026. Anyone with a WoW account can participate without a subscription, Game Time, or a Beta invitation
If you missed out on Beta access, this is a free opportunity to try the game. Returning players can join without securing a Beta invite, too.
Install the dedicated stress test version through Battle.net before it begins, then select an available realm and create a character when access opens. The test is expected to last a few hours. Characters, names, and guilds created on the stress test servers will be wiped afterward, and progress will not carry over to the November 4 launch.
Schedule and Free Access
Blizzard's October 16 update moved the World of Warcraft: Forever stress test from October 19 to October 21. Check the schedule for your account's region: these regional start times do not all represent one simultaneous opening.
Region | Local Start Time |
Americas and Oceania | October 21, 2:00 p.m. PDT |
Europe | October 21, 7:00 p.m. CEST |
Taiwan | October 22, 5:00 a.m. CST |
Korea | October 22, 6:00 a.m. KST |
You do not need to add a subscription or Game Time, or obtain a Beta invitation, for this event. The window may end early or run longer as needed, so plan for a short session rather than a full day of access.
Treat leveling, collecting gear, and earning WoW Forever gold during the test as practice. None of that character progress is being saved for launch.
How to Download and Join
New to World of Warcraft? Make sure you have a Battle.net account with a World of Warcraft game account attached before the stress test begins.
WoW Forever has a dedicated stress test version. Even if you already have another WoW or Beta client installed, check the version menu first.
1. Update your graphics drivers, open the Battle.net desktop app, and let the launcher update if necessary.
2. Select World of Warcraft and open the Game Version menu above the Play button.
3. Under In Development, select World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test, then click Install.
4. Once installation is complete and the test begins, click Play and choose an available test realm.
5. Create a new character when character creation becomes available, then enter the game.
If you plan to play with friends, agree on the same test realm before creating characters. Your choice of test realm does not reserve a launch realm, and your test character's progress will not carry over.
Download ahead of time. If the option is missing, check launcher updates and the version menu. If the client opens but you cannot enter a realm, check your region's start time and official maintenance notices. Free eligibility does not guarantee immediate entry: queues, connections, and responsiveness under load are part of what this event will test.
First-Time Players: What to Do
For your first WoW Forever session, aim to complete some early quests and try basic combat, then decide whether you want to keep playing. The limited window gives you a chance to attempt these activities, although login waits and server performance will affect your available playtime.
1. Choose a class that interests you. Read the class descriptions and pick a combat style you want to try. Returning players can start with something familiar. You can leave class rankings, endgame gear, and optimal talent builds for later.
2. Start with the opening quests. Accept nearby quests, read their objectives, complete them, and return to turn them in. If a target is heavily contested, work on another nearby objective you can complete instead of waiting in one place.
3. Get comfortable with movement and abilities. Practice selecting or approaching targets, using attacks, looting, and interacting with the world. Fight a few enemies in succession to see whether you enjoy the combat pace, resource use, and recovery, then adjust awkward keybinds.
4. Try a small group. Invite friends or join willing nearby players for a few quests to try chatting, meeting up, and cooperating. You can also continue the opening quests on your own; reaching a dungeon does not need to be a goal.
5. Make a few notes before leaving. Record the classes you enjoyed, settings you want to change, and questions you still have. Detailed profession, gear, and WoW Forever gold plans can wait until you decide whether you want to return. With the character wipe ahead, there is no need to rush levels to preserve progress.
Judge the combat, quest pace, and cooperation separately from stress test congestion. One queue does not establish how launch will go, and a smooth session cannot guarantee a trouble-free opening day.
How It Differs from Beta
For existing Beta players, the main difference is that the WoW Forever stress test will use the regional server hardware intended for launch. If you already know the classes and quests, focus on logins, character creation, quest interactions, and meeting your group under load.
The existing Beta will go offline shortly before the stress test, and Blizzard expects to reopen it afterward. The announced wipe applies to characters, names, and guilds on the stress test servers.
It should not be read as confirmation that every existing Beta character will also be deleted at that moment. The Beta's eventual closure and wipe are separate, and free stress test access does not grant ongoing Beta access.
Your Situation | Suggested Approach |
You missed Forever's Beta or want to return after years away | Use the free window to try early quests and combat. |
You played Beta and want to check connections or group coordination | Pick one goal, such as logging in or meeting your party. |
You have already tested enough and have no specific issue to revisit | You can skip this session and follow launch updates. |
Organized groups can agree on a realm and convenient starting area, then check invitations, finding one another, chat, and questing together. If something fails, record the realm, time, and error message.
Before revisiting a class issue, check whether a fresh character can reach the required conditions; detailed WoW Forever gold farming plans and dungeon-versus-questing comparisons can wait, especially since dungeon XP has already been adjusted during Beta and older efficiency impressions need version-specific checks.
What to Keep for Launch
WoW Forever is scheduled to launch on November 4, with access included in a WoW subscription or Game Time. The free stress test does not provide ongoing launch access or let you reserve levels, gear, or names for your launch character.
First-time players can keep a shortlist of classes and activities they want to explore. Returning players can note unfamiliar controls and interface settings.
Groups can settle their login time, meeting point, and individual questing plans if someone cannot join. Save screenshots of useful keybinds and interface layouts so you can recreate them in the launch client.
If you want Early Name Reservation, check your edition's benefits separately. Eligible Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack, or Warcraft Forever Collection owners can participate from October 27 through November 3.
Names are first come, first served, and your preferred name is not guaranteed. A name created during the stress test will be wiped; it does not become a launch reservation.
