Summary

World of Warcraft: Forever is giving all three Classic tanks major changes, but there is no clear winner yet. Paladins are getting the most build flexibility, Druids are becoming stronger and smoother to play, while Warriors are being pushed toward traditional shield tanking. Here is a quick breakdown of what each tank brings to Forever, while players interested in the broader WoW Classic economy can also check out WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Gold.

1. Protection Paladin: The Biggest Build Potential

Paladin could be the most interesting tank to theorycraft.

Major Changes:

  • Seal of Fury becomes the core tanking seal.

  • Judgment now functions as the Paladin's taunt.

  • Holy Strike adds another offensive button.

  • A new defensive talent can provide a 100% HP shield.

  • Blessings now last 1 hour, reducing buff maintenance.

  • Consecration deals its full value to the first four targets, with much lower damage afterward.

The biggest change is the talent tree.

Instead of having one obvious Protection build, Paladins could potentially choose between:

  • Deep Protection for stronger mitigation

  • Protection/Retribution for offense and defense

  • Holy-focused builds for stronger single-target threat

  • Hybrid builds using Intellect and spell power

Dual Spec could be extremely valuable here because the best build may depend heavily on the encounter.

The Main Problem:

Tying taunt to Judgment could be awkward.

Paladins will need to manage the Judgment cooldown carefully instead of treating taunt as a completely separate emergency button.

Still, Protection Paladin currently looks extremely promising.

2. Feral Druid: Simple, Tough and Reliable

Druid tanking looks less complicated than Paladin, but that may actually be a strength.

What Changes?

  • Mangle joins the core rotation.

  • Lacerate adds another source of sustained threat.

  • Frenzied Regeneration now scales with percentage health.

  • Berserk allows repeated Mangle attacks against up to three targets.

  • Rage generation receives major improvements.

  • Consumables can now be used while shapeshifted.

  • Windfury can benefit Bears and Cats.

The result is a much smoother dungeon tank.

Best Strengths:

Druid = durability + cleave + sustained threat.

A dedicated Bear build can focus heavily on survivability, while hybrid players can invest more into Feral and other trees for additional utility.

There may not be as much build variety as Paladin, but Druid looks like one of the easiest tanks to build effectively.

3. Protection Warrior: Shield Tanking Is Back

Warrior was already the classic tanking king, so Blizzard has made fewer dramatic changes here.

Instead, the goal seems to be making shield tanking more important.

Important Changes:

  • Threat bonuses heavily favor a one-handed weapon + shield.

  • Rage generation is significantly better.

  • Thunder Clap works in Defensive Stance.

  • Thunder Clap also reduces enemy attack speed.

  • Victory Rush becomes baseline.

  • Victory Rush heals for 10% of maximum health.

  • Charge can now be used in Defensive Stance.

  • Tactical Mastery becomes part of the base toolkit.

This should make Warrior tanking much smoother, especially in dungeons.

Possible Builds:

The obvious route is still deep Protection with additional points in:

Arms

  • Deep Wounds

  • Impale

  • More damage potential

Fury

  • Enrage

  • Additional offensive tools

There is also room for dungeon-focused builds using Sweeping Strikes + Cleave for additional AoE threat.

However, Fury tanking may be much less attractive if shield-based threat bonuses are strong enough.

4. Which WoW Forever Tank Looks Best?

TankBiggest StrengthBuild Variety
PaladinUtility & threat options★★★★★
DruidSurvivability & cleave★★★★
WarriorThreat & rage generation★★★★

This is not a final tier list.

Threat values, item scaling, incoming damage, and talent numbers can all change before launch.

5. What Should Players Watch During Beta?

Three things will determine the tank meta:

1. Threat Scaling
If Blizzard makes threat too easy or too difficult, entire builds could become irrelevant.

2. Rage Generation
This will be especially important for Warriors and Druids.

3. Real Dungeon Damage
A build that looks great on a talent calculator may fail if actual bosses hit much harder than expected.

Final Thoughts

WoW Forever's tank design is shaping up to be much more interesting than a simple Classic remake.

Paladin offers the most theorycrafting, Druid looks like the reliable all-rounder, and Warrior remains the familiar powerhouse with a stronger focus on shield tanking.

The beta will ultimately decide which tank becomes the meta. For now, Blizzard has at least given players plenty of reasons to experiment.Players looking to prepare their broader WoW Classic experience can also check out cheap WoW TBC Classic Anniversary Gold.
