Pets in AION 2 provide mounts and permanent collection bonuses. Ordinary pets' Owned Effects remain active when you ride another creature or travel on foot, so you can keep your favorite appearance while collecting other pets for stats.
To get a particular pet, inspect its Source before choosing a farming area. Some come from monster Souls; others have quest, merchant, chest or event sources.
Unlocking one ordinary pet takes five matching Souls. Further Souls improve that pet, while Soul Crystals develop its genus's separate stat board.

AION 2 Pet System Basics
Ordinary pets belong to Cogni, Fera, Natura or Varian. Special is a fifth category with different acquisition rules; inspect these pets individually instead of assuming ordinary collection rewards apply.
Pogression | What You Collect or Spend | What Improves |
Pet Insight | One pet's Souls | That pet's owned rewards and functions |
Genus Insight | EXP from collecting and leveling the genus's pets; Soul Crystals and currency for Analyze | The family's level and rolled stat effects |
Owned bonuses accumulate across ordinary pets you collect. Equipping a mount selects what you ride; it does not turn off the other pets' owned rewards.
Unlocking and Riding Pets
The Pets system opens through early Episode progression, around level 10: All Geared Up for Elyos or Gathering Essentials for Asmodians. Starter choices include Fossa, Armadon and Tog.
For your first field collection in Aion 2:
1. Open the main menu, select Pets, and choose an unowned pet.
2. Read Owned Effects and Source. Note the exact monster, region and Soul name.
3. Travel to the listed habitat. The Source pin may indicate a nearby teleport rather than the actual pack.
4. Kill the matching monsters and collect their Souls until the entry unlocks.
5. Reopen the entry, confirm ownership and the available Equip button, and inspect the reward.
6. Press Equip, then press C while grounded to ride with default PC controls. Press C again to dismount.
Change your mount by equipping another owned pet. If riding fails, check your key binding and whether the area restricts mounting.
Eligible ordinary pets gain Mount Glide at Pet Insight 2. At Insight 3, Transform requires equipping the pet and using Empathy Candy. For auto-loot, look for Pet: Auto-Loot Voucher (30 Days) at Wind Breeze Merchants.
Check your character's current eligibility, membership requirements and limits before obtaining it. Auto-loot needs an active voucher and the Auto-Loot setting. Check its remaining duration and the item filters under Settings, Combat, Looting if pickup stops.
Finding and Unlocking Your Target Pet
Start with the named pet's Source in AION 2, then compare the available methods:
Listed Source | Your Next Action |
Field monster | Match its name, level and region; collect the correct Souls |
Black Cloud Merchants | Inspect current stock and the displayed pet and price |
Selection chest | Check that the exact pet is selectable before opening |
Random chest | Check the reward pool; opening it does not guarantee your target |
Quest, event or pass | Check the reward and current availability before pursuing it |
A pet appearing in a database does not establish that its event or reward is currently available. If Source lists no field monster, do not keep searching camps for one.
Check Black Cloud Merchants
Open Shop with H under default controls, then select Black Cloud Merchants at the top left. Stock changes hourly and can include ordinary pets obtainable elsewhere, offering an alternative to a long farm or an enemy-region trip. Your target is not guaranteed in the next rotation.
Compare the listed AION 2 Kina cost with the effort of reaching its monster source. Check whether the pet is already marked Owned before spending; an existing pet is a different progression decision from unlocking a missing appearance.
Paid manual refreshes become more expensive with successive uses; check whether the option is available to your account before using it. Wait for the automatic rotation if the cost exceeds your budget. The merchant pool does not include every pet.
Elyos Example: Unlock Fungen
Check | Target |
Region and area | Verteron, Eastern Cantas Valley |
Nearby arrival point | Eastern Cantas Valley Campsite |
Monster | Lv.12 Red Cap Fungen |
Required Soul | Soul: Fungen (Bound) |
First goal | Five Souls to unlock Fungen |
After unlocking Pets, select Fungen and confirm this monster source. Travel to the campsite if its teleport is available, then search the surrounding Eastern Cantas Valley habitat for Red Cap Fungen. Match the full name: Red Cap Fungie is a different target.
Kill one and collect the drop before committing to the pack. Confirm that Fungen's Soul progress increased, then continue to five matching Souls.
Reopen Fungen, check ownership, press Equip and try riding on the ground. This is a level-12 monster example, not a requirement to wait until level 12 if your character already handles it comfortably.
Asmodian Example: Unlock Papis
Check | Target |
Region and area | Altgard, Safe Haven |
Arrival point | Safe Haven |
Monster | Lv.11 Faded Papis |
Required Soul | Soul: Papis (Bound) |
First goal | Five Souls to unlock Papis |
Select Papis, inspect Source and travel to Safe Haven. Search the area's monster habitat for the level-11 Faded Papis and confirm its nameplate before attacking. The same monster name appears at higher levels elsewhere; a distant Papis listing is not necessarily this beginner target.
Collect the first Soul and confirm Papis progress. Continue until the entry is owned, then equip it and test riding. If its local spawns are occupied, Source also lists level-11 Faded Papis in Nameless Cemetery.
Check the actual monster level there because higher-level variants share that area. Return to Safe Haven if nearby enemies are beyond your comfortable range.
Pet Insight vs Genus Insight
For ordinary soul-based pets on global, each pet follows these stages:
Pet Insight | Additional Souls | Total | Function |
1 | 5 | 5 | Ownership and riding |
2 | 25 | 30 | Mount Glide |
3 | 75 | 105 | Transform eligibility |
In Aion 2, these are collected Souls, not a universal kill count. Check the current counter and next Owned Effects. A pet already at Insight 2 needs the remainder of its 75-Soul stage.
Collecting and leveling pets also grants EXP to their matching genus. Extra Souls from a completed ordinary pet convert into its genus's Soul Crystals.
In Genus Insight, select a genus and inspect the board before pressing Analyze. Analysis spends applicable crystals and currency, rerolls unlocked lines and grants board EXP. It does not level an individual pet. Each board has nine slots and reaches Insight 10; check your active preset before changing its rolled effects.

Best Pets to Unlock First
Ordinary AION 2 pets of the same genus at the same Pet Insight level provide the same corresponding Owned Effects. Within that genus, choose by appearance, accessibility and collection progress. A harder-to-reach species does not inherently provide a stronger owned bonus.
Genus | Level-Three Main Stat | Suggested Priority |
Cogni | Might +1 | Attack growth |
Natura | Precision +1 | Accuracy and critical-hit scaling |
Fera | Dexterity +1 | Defensive utility; earlier Accuracy Bonus |
Varian | Constitution +1 | HP and survival |
Cogni followed by Natura is an offensive collection recommendation. For appearance collecting, an accessible favorite can come first. Gather other missing pets along the same route instead of skipping them.
For AION 2 Kina efficiency, finish an easy monster source before paying for the same ordinary pet. Choose between a new unlock for collection progress and finishing Insight 3 for its main-stat reward.
Pet Farming Locations by Faction
Use these Aion 2 areas to expand an established collection after the beginner examples. Levels describe monsters, not entry requirements. Choose unfinished targets you can kill consistently; no measured Souls-per-hour ranking establishes a universally fastest camp.
Elyos Spots in Verteron
Area | Levels | Pet Targets |
Contaminated Marsh | 14-15 | Skama, Marsh Targon, Black Spirit |
Northern Tolbas Forest | 24 | Nepenthes, Magic Gravi, Gravi, Karnif |
Eternal Isle | 49 | Kerubar, Kerubian, Kerubiel |
At Contaminated Marsh, Foul Skama supplies Skama, Contaminated Spirit supplies Black Spirit, and Marsh Targon keeps its name. In Northern Tolbas Forest, check the Tolbas variants of the listed targets. On Eternal Isle, Eternal Kerubar, Eternal Kerubian and Eternal Kerubiel supply their respective pets.
Asmodian Spots in Altgard
Area | Levels | Pet Targets |
Purifying Forest | 28-29 | Gravi, Superior Earth Spirit, Kalgolem |
Fafnite Deposit | 35-36 | Swarm, Parasite Swarm, Mudthorn |
Immortal Isle | 49-50 | Kuru Worker, Modified Lupyllini, Kuru Tinkerer |
In Purifying Forest, match Pink Gravi, Corroded Soil Spirit and Angry Kalgolem to those respective pets.
At Fafnite Deposit, Giant Ore Insectoid supplies Swarm, its Adult variant supplies Parasite Swarm, and Addicted Mudthorn supplies Mudthorn. Fafnite mainly serves Varian collection; Immortal Isle offers later Cogni targets.
Farm Pet Souls More Efficiently
In Aion 2, clear a compact circuit, collect the drops and return to its start. Add a nearby pack if you repeatedly arrive before monsters respawn. If competition leaves few kills, inspect another source for the same pet or switch to an unfinished target.
Compare collected Souls and downtime over equal short sessions. Move to easier enemies if kills require frequent recovery. Auto Target Upon Skill Use helps mixed-pack farming; turn it off when it repeatedly selects the wrong monster.
Templars can use Doom Shield's level-15 kill-reset specialization when the attack secures kills. If enemies survive, use your normal damage sequence or an easier camp. Other classes should follow their own skill descriptions.
Optimize Soul Crystals and Genus Boards
Keep an AION 2 Kina budget for analysis alongside equipment upgrades. You can develop useful board slots while collecting pets; completing every pet first is unnecessary.
Avoid accumulating expensive locks while leveling toward Genus Insight 10. Higher Insight improves available grades, and locks raise later costs. Inspect the displayed total before repeated analysis and stop at your spending limit.
Use genus-specific crystals on their matching boards; preserve universal crystals for needs such as Special. For later offensive optimization, inspect slot four, then attack options in slots one and five where available. Match the actual board pool and your PvE or PvP needs.
Carry a Hidden Cube key on collection trips. Keep sound effects audible and investigate nearby cues when the detour is short; keyed global openings are listed at 1,000 Soul Crystals. Do not wait indefinitely at an empty spot.
Spacetime Rifts and Cross-Faction Pets
If an Aion 2 pet requires enemy territory, check merchant or reward alternatives first. Rifts generally require level 45. Check the client schedule: the roughly ten-minute entry window differs from the one-hour stay.
Prepare several missing targets before entering. Guards can kill you quickly; without valid local revival, death can send you home and end the trip. A placed, bound Kisk can enable local revival but can be destroyed. Avoid guarded settlements and switch to your backup target when a pack is occupied.
Common Aion 2 Pet System Mistakes
Mistake | Adjustment |
Farming a lookalike monster | Check the Soul name after your first kill |
Treating every pet as a field drop | Read Source before traveling |
Confusing resources | Souls develop one pet; crystals fund Genus analysis |
Expecting only equipped pets to help | Collect useful owned rewards and ride your favorite |
Expecting automatic function activation | Check candy, voucher and settings separately |
Farming unattended | Stay present and respond to verification prompts |
For your next AION 2 session, pick one missing appearance and compare its sources. If the first Soul does not advance that pet, reopen Pets and Source before continuing.
Once you collect 5 matching Souls, confirm ownership and equip the pet; decide whether to continue toward Insight 3 after checking its next reward.
