But which ones are actually good, which ones are traps, and—most importantly—do they cost extra VC, or will you need to Buy 2K27 VC just to afford one?

This guide covers every GOAT build, how to unlock them, their full stats and cap breakers, animation restrictions, and an honest verdict on whether they're healthy for the game.

All unlocked GOAT builds appear

Unlock requirements: GOAT builds are tied to lifetime challenge progress and level. A level 40 player with 350 lifetime challenges has access to every build. The most exclusive builds require 350 lifetime challenges, while others need 300 or are locked behind the season pass.

Do GOAT Builds Cost More VC?

No. In testing, the Will Chamberlain build's upgrade cost tracked the same as a normal build—approximately 374k VC at full completion. The high finishing ratings don't inflate the price.

However: The creator urges players not to spend real money until gameplay testing confirms these builds perform as well as their attribute screens suggest. The attributes look incredible, but animation restrictions may limit real-world effectiveness.

The Animation Catch (Applies to All GOAT Builds)

This is the single most important limitation:

You cannot change animations. The animation screen is grayed out—dribble animations, signatures, and motion styles are all locked.

You cannot change the jump shot itself. The build's signature jumper is fixed.

You CAN change jump shot timing and release speed. This is a significant plus—timing control matters more than the base animation for shooters.

Why this matters: If you hate a build's jumper, you're stuck with it. Several GOAT builds have slow or awkward releases, which may undermine their elite shooting attributes.

GOAT Build Breakdown

1. Will Chamberlain — "The Big Dipper" (350 Lifetime Challenges)

Physicals: 7'1", 8'0" wingspan
Key stats: 94 block, 95 strength, ~80 vertical, 90 interior defense, 94 offensive rebound, 95 defensive rebound, 95 standing dunk, 95 post control, 99 close shot, 80 driving dunk, 80 driving layup, 70 mid-range

Cap breakers (glitched and generous):

Three-point: 25 → 67

Pass accuracy: 50 → 74

Rebounding: double 99 potential

Block: up to 99

Steal: 60 → 73 (silver interceptor)

Verdict: Absurdly OP. You can achieve 99 block, 99 offensive rebound, and 99 defensive rebound simultaneously with enough cap breakers. Three A+ ratings at creation. This is the most hyped build and likely the meta-defining big.

2. Anthony Edwards (300 Lifetime Challenges)

Physicals: 6'4" shooting guard
Key stats: 90 speed, 90 agility, 95 vertical, 88 ball handle, 91 speed with ball (legend lightning launch), 80 pass accuracy, 91 three-point, 88 mid-range, 98 driving dunk (legend posterizer), 95 driving layup, 90 close shot, 88 perimeter defense

Cap breakers:

Strength: 60 → 85

Perimeter defense: 88 → 93

Ball handle: 88 → 93

Mid-range: 88 → 93

Steal: 60 → 83

Interior defense: 50 → 70+ (viable for 2s)

Weakness: The jump shot looks very slow even at 44 release speed. This may be the build's fatal flaw.

Verdict: Elite on paper—A+ in every rating category—but the jumper needs testing before investing.

3. Kobe Bryant — "Young Kobe" (Season Pass)

Physicals: 6'6", 6'11" wingspan
Key stats: 90 speed, 90 agility, 95 vertical, 91 speed with ball (legend lightning launch), 86 ball handle, 70 pass accuracy, 99 driving dunk, 85 perimeter defense, 80 steal, 87 mid-range

Cap breakers:

Steal: 80 → 90

Strength: 65 → 75

Pass accuracy: 70 → 83

Perimeter defense: up to 90 with plus ones

Speed: up to 95

Vertical: up to 98

Note: Only two A+ ratings (lifetime builds get three), but no major weaknesses. Has some of the fastest speed boost animations in the game.

Verdict: Physically impossible in the normal builder—99 driving dunk on a 6'6" with 85 perimeter defense shouldn't exist. Strong all-around, and the signature animations are elite.

4. Anthony Davis (6'10", 7'2" wingspan)

Key stats: 78 speed, 70 agility, 85 strength, 83 vertical, 93 interior defense, 94 block, 60 steal, 65 perimeter defense, 89 defensive rebound, 80 offensive rebound, 95 standing dunk, 87 post control, 89 driving dunk, 73 three-point, 75 mid-range

Cap breakers:

Steal: 60 → 80

Perimeter defense: 65 → 75–80

Pass accuracy: up to mid-70s

Verdict: All-around build with two A+ and one A rating. Won't break the game, but comfortably better than a normal 6'10". Has one of the better signature jump shots.

5. Dwight Howard (6'11", 7'5" wingspan)

Key stats: 80 speed, 65 agility, 94 strength, 90 vertical, 94 interior defense, 94 block, 99 strength potential, double 94 rebounding (both 99 potential), 99 standing dunk, 25 pass accuracy, 40 perimeter defense, 25 three-point

Cap breakers (all plus ones):

Pass accuracy: 30 → 57

Perimeter defense: 40 → 60s–70s

Three-point: 25 → 75

Verdict: Possibly better than Will Chamberlain. 799 overall stat ratings. Three A+ ratings. The cap breakers turning a 25 three-point into 75 is genuinely absurd. Must-test build

6. Penny Hardaway (6'7", 6'11" wingspan)

Key stats: 92 speed, 90 agility, 95 ball handle, 91 speed with ball (legend lightning launch at 6'7"), 89 mid-range, 83 three-point, 80 perimeter defense, 70 steal, 87 driving layup, 89 driving dunk

Verdict: Another build that shouldn't exist. Legend lightning launch at 6'7" with this shooting is a fundamental break from normal builder constraints.

7. Klay Thompson (6'7", 6'9" wingspan)

Key stats: 99 three-point, 90 agility, 94 perimeter defense, 94 speed, 88 driving layup, 85 close shot, 40 block

Cap breakers:

Block: 40 → 75

Post control: upgradeable

Verdict: The ultimate hash sitter. A 6'7" with 99 three-point and 94 perimeter defense is a nightmare in 5v5. Agility matters more than speed per testing, and this build has both. Only weakness: no strength.

8. Magic Johnson (6'9")

Key stats: 97 ball handle, 93 speed with ball, 99 pass accuracy, 87 speed, 83 agility, 85 strength, 95 driving layup, 93 post control, 80 interior defense, 80 perimeter defense, 73 steal, 84 defensive rebound, 74 offensive rebound

Weakness: Magic's jump shot is a one-handed release—defenders will sag off and late contest.

Verdict: Would be insane with a good jumper. Legend lightning launch at 6'9" is already terrifying. The bad jumper is the only thing keeping it balanced.

9. Andre Kirilenko (6'9")

Key stats: 92 perimeter defense, 93 steal, 93 block, 80–85 across the board elsewhere, 80 speed, 85 agility, 85 vertical, 80 pass accuracy

Cap breakers: Driving dunk reaches contact dunks

Verdict: The "80 everything" build with 90s in all defensive stats. A genuinely balanced menace. Sets a concerning precedent for future build creep.

10. Kawhi Leonard (6'7")

Key stats: 95 agility, 96 perimeter defense, 94 steal, 91 mid-range, 83 three-point, 80 ball handle, 90 close shot, 85 driving layup

Cap breakers: Block: 50 → low 80s

Verdict: Elite two-way wing with Hall of Fame shooting badges possible. The low block is the only weakness.

11. Carmelo Anthony (6'8", 7'0" wingspan)

Key stats: 86 ball handle, 86 speed with ball, 94 post control, 96 mid-range

Verdict: Physically impossible combination—this much shooting with a 7-foot wingspan doesn't exist in the normal builder. Excellent rebounding for a 6'8". Viable at both the 2 and 3.

12. Dirk Nowitzki — "Mr. Shoot Over Those" (7'1")

Key stats: 99 mid-range, 96 three-point, 99 post control (legend post finishing), 92 defensive rebound, 83 offensive rebound, 99 close shot, 80 pass accuracy, 83 strength

Weakness: Low vertical and block for a center. At 7'1", matchmaking will likely place you at the 5, where the strength and rebounding disadvantage hurts.

Verdict: If you know Dirk's jumper, you'll absolutely eat with this build. Best played at the 4 if possible.

13. Gilbert Arenas — "Hibachi" (6'3", 6'10" wingspan)

Key stats: 92 ball handle, 89 three-point, 93 mid-range, 93 speed with ball, 92 speed, 91 agility, 90 driving layup, 80 perimeter defense, 80 steal, 80 vertical

Verdict: Too many high stats for a 6'3"—but that's the point of GOAT builds. However, small guard builds with custom signatures and jumpers will likely remain superior because GOAT builds can't change animations.

Are GOAT Builds Good for the Game?

The creator's honest take: GOAT builds are bad for the game's health, even if they're great for content.

The concerns:

Attributes that are physically impossible in the normal builder

A 6'7" with legend lightning launch and 99 three-point

A 6'11" with 700+ overall ratings

Precedent for future creep—what happens when Curry releases with a Steph Curry base?

The nuance: Small guard builds may remain competitive because they can equip custom signatures and jumpers. GOAT builds are locked into their animations, which limits their ceiling for skilled players.

Which Builds to Test First

Based on attribute screens and cap breaker potential, the priority test list is:

Will Chamberlain — The most hyped, most glitched cap breakers

Kobe Bryant — Elite animations, no major weaknesses

Dwight Howard — Potentially better than Chamberlain, 799 overall ratings

Anthony Edwards — Elite on paper, but the slow jumper needs verification

NBA 2K27 GOAT Builds Guide: Best Builds Ranked, Full Stats, Cap Breakers & VC Costs

Key Takeaways

GOAT builds cost the same VC as normal builds (~374k full upgrade). Don't expect a premium.

Animations are locked. You can't change signatures or the base jumper—only timing and release speed.

Cap breakers make these builds. The glitched breakers (25 → 75 three-point on Dwight Howard) are what push them over the edge.

Don't spend real money yet. Wait for gameplay testing—attribute screens can lie.

The jumper matters more than the stats. A 99 three-point rating means nothing if the release is slow and awkward.

Lifetime challenge builds (Chamberlain, Edwards) get three A+ ratings. Season pass builds (Kobe) get two A+ but no major weaknesses.

GOAT builds may not replace normal builds for skilled players. Custom animations and signatures remain a major advantage.

Expect power creep. This is only season one of GOAT builds—future releases (Curry especially) could escalate dramatically.
