Old School RuneScape: The Complete 1 to 99 Agility Guide

Runescape Jun-02-2026 PST

Agility is one of the least popular skills in Old School RuneScape because it primarily involves running around obstacle courses for experience. However, training this skill yields important rewards and makes your character more agile for traversing Gielinor. The higher your Agility level, the quicker your run energy regenerates and the slower it depletes depending on your weight. You also gain access to extremely useful shortcuts around the game.

Recommended Quests and Diaries

Recommended Quests: Tourist Trap, The Grand Tree, Monkey Madness I, Children of the Sun, Sins of the Father, Song of the Elves

Recommended Diaries: Hard Kandarin, Hard Desert, Hard Fremennik, Elite Ardougne (less important)

Early Game: Levels 1 to 32

The Questing Route (Highly Recommended)

Complete The Tourist Trap. This intermediate quest takes around 20 minutes and rewards 4,600 experience twice. Choosing Agility both times takes you from level 1 to level 26.

Then complete The Grand Tree, which requires level 25 Agility and provides nearly 8,000 Agility experience. Both quests together take you to approximately level 32.

The Rooftop Course Route (Alternative)

Due to a May 2024 update, the Draynor course requirement was lowered to level 1. Train as follows:

Draynor Village: Level 1 to 20

Al Kharid: Level 20 to 30

Varrock: Level 30 to 32

Going from 30 to 32 takes less than 20 minutes. To rival the questing route, you would need to train for up to two hours. The questing route remains heavily recommended.

Mid Game: Levels 32 to 72

Your goal is level 72 for the Hallowed Sepulchre.

Varrock Rooftop (32 to 40)

Stays at Varrock until level 40. This takes no more than one hour at 12,000 to 14,000 XP per hour, yielding 8 to 12 marks of grace.

Canifis Rooftop (40 to 50)

Available after Priest in Peril. Yields up to 18 marks of grace per hour at just under 20,000 XP per hour. Staying here until you gather 260 marks for the full graceful outfit puts you at around level 62. This is the fastest way to secure the graceful set.

Falador Rooftop (50 to 60)

A 2024 update increased this course from 27,000 to 32,000 XP per hour. The course is slightly longer but worth the switch for better experience.

Seers' Village Rooftop (60 to 70)

Base experience rates reach 45,000 per hour. With the hard Kandarin Diary, you can teleport back to the start after each lap, increasing experience to a maximum of 56,000 per hour. Diary requirements include 70 Prayer, Defence, Fletching, and Fishing, plus 75 Smithing.

Pollnivneach Rooftop (70 to 72)

Base experience is 50,000 per hour with 10 to 14 marks. The hard desert diary boosts experience to 60,000 per hour and marks to 18 per hour. This diary is less demanding than Kandarin.

Alternative Mid Game Methods

Brimhaven Agility Course

The level 20 spike obstacle can be repeated for over 30,000 XP per hour, excellent for early levels. The intended course requires touching pillars on 25 platforms. Experience at level 80 does not exceed 40,000 per hour. Players typically come here only for the dark blue graceful recolor.

Agility Pyramid (Level 30+)

Best attempted after obtaining the graceful set to reduce failures. Bring desert clothing, waterskins, and food. The pyramid top trades for 10,000 GP, making this an excellent early money maker for iron accounts. Expect 18,000 to 24,000 XP per hour, reaching 30,000 at level 60.

Colossal Worm Agility Course

Released during Varlamore Part Two, this is the least intensive traditional agility method. Access via fairy ring AJB or teleport scrolls. The basic route requires level 50 and yields 30,000 XP per hour. The advanced route requires level 62 and yields 40,000 XP per hour. Termites earned here can be exchanged for amylase packs.

Wilderness Agility Course (Level 52+)

Enter Deep Wilderness with 150,000 GP and a looting bag. Pay the dispenser to enable loot on each lap, with larger payouts for consecutive laps. Each lap provides an experience ticket. Handing in tickets together grants bonus experience. Base experience is 40,000 per hour, reaching 55,000 with tickets. Profit can reach 1.8 million GP per hour after 60 laps. Look for mass worlds or bring tank gear.

Late Game: Hallowed Sepulchre (Levels 72 to 99)

Available at level 72 after Sins of the Father. The third floor requires level 72. This is the most click-intensive agility method but provides the best experience per hour and valuable items.

Getting Started

Talk to the strange figure in the lobby for five teleport crystals. You must reach the end of each floor within the target time while dodging obstacles and opening coffins. Wearing a Saradomin item lets you restore run energy at pillars. You cannot boost your Agility level to access higher floors.

Obstacles

Knight statues throw returning swords. Lower floors have faster swords.

Ranger statues shoot bolts. Deeper floors have more bolts.

Wizard statues throw flames active for three ticks (two on floor five).

Priest statues summon lightning that damages and stuns.

Blue teleport tiles send you ahead. Yellow tiles send you back.

Opening Coffins

Coffins are blocked by obstacles. Use a hammer, saw, planks, and nails to build bridges. Sacrifice vampire dust for holy barriers. Cast enchantment spells for portals. Use a crossbow and mithril grapple for pillars. Having a lockpick improves success rates.

The grand coffin at floor five provides marks of grace and a chance at the ring of endurance.

Upgrades (Purchase Order)

Hollowed grapple (guarantees pillar crossing)

Hollowed ring (nullifies trap damage)

Hollowed focus (guarantees portal activation)

Hollowed symbol (reduces vampire dust requirement to one)

Hollowed hammer (never breaks nails)

Excess marks can buy dark dye for graceful recolor, dark acorn for pet transmog, or hollowed sacks for random coffin items.

Alternatives to Hallowed Sepulchre

Rooftop Courses

Rellekka (Level 80): Base 53,000 XP per hour, 63,000 with hard Fremennik Diary.

Ardougne (Level 90): Best rooftop course at up to 70,000 XP per hour. Elite diary boosts marks of grace to 16 to 22 per hour.

Prifddinas Course (Level 75)

Available after Song of the Elves. Portals occasionally skip portions and yield crystal shards. Experience caps at 65,000 per hour. Not recommended over other options.

Low Intensity Options

Barbarian Fishing: Requires level 48 Fishing. Provides passive Agility experience from 2,000 XP per hour at level 48 to 5,000 XP per hour at high levels.

POH Basement Course: Abysmal experience rates. Not recommended.

Specialized Courses

Ape Atoll: 48,000 XP per hour. Only for collecting monkey backpacks.

Penguin Course: Highest pet rate for the giant squirrel. Only 30,000 XP per hour.

Courses to Avoid

Avoid Gnome, Shayzien, and Werewolf courses. They are outdated or outclassed.

Fastest Route

Level 1 to 32: Questing

Level 32 to 47: Brimhaven spike obstacle

Level 47 to 62: Wilderness course (boost with summer pie)

Level 62 to 99: Hallowed Sepulchre

Most Profitable Route

Stay at the Wilderness Agility Course. Profit depends on PKer activity and streak maintenance.

Recommended Personal Route

Level 1 to 32: Questing

Level 32 to 40: Brimhaven spike obstacle

Level 40 to 60: Canifis rooftop (or until graceful set obtained)

Level 60 to 72: Seers' rooftop (after hard Kandarin diary)

Level 72 to 99: Hallowed Sepulchre (or Colossal Worm for low intensity)

Final Notes

Agility is worth actively training whenever possible to get it out of the way. The utility provided by shortcuts, run energy restoration, and diary requirements makes it essential for account progression.

For players seeking OSRS gold to fund training, external services are available, though training through gameplay remains the primary intended method.
