The biggest Old School RuneScape changes across combat, skilling, PvM and quality-of-life content.

Summary

Old School RuneScape has received a huge number of changes throughout the 2026 Summer Sweep Up, touching combat, skilling, PvM, Agility, Runecrafting and several long-standing quality-of-life problems. If you have been away from Gielinor for a while, it can be surprisingly difficult to keep track of everything.

The good news is that you do not need to read every patch note. Here are 12 of the biggest OSRS updates you should know before logging in again, including the Chivalry buff, Aerial Fishing improvements, new elemental amulets, the Necklace of Fangs, buy OSRS gold, Abyssal Lantern changes and major PvM buffs.

1.Chivalry Finally Got a Major Buff

One of the most noticeable OSRS changes is the improvement to Chivalry.

Jagex reduced its Prayer drain rate to 1 point every 3 seconds, matching Deadeye and Mystic Vigour. That is a major improvement over its previous drain rate and makes Chivalry much more practical for lower-level or AFK melee activities.

This is particularly useful for players training Slayer while using a Bonecrusher or Ash Sanctifier. Instead of constantly worrying about Prayer points, players can maintain their combat boost for considerably longer.

For players who do not have access to Piety yet, Chivalry is now much more attractive.

2. Aerial Fishing Is Finally Less Painful

Aerial Fishing received several quality-of-life improvements in August.

The distance for quick catches increased from 3×3 to 4×4, making it easier to chain catches together. Jagex also added a toggle allowing the cormorant to eat fish from your inventory when appropriate bait is unavailable.

Occasionally, larger fish pools can also appear, allowing the cormorant to travel back and forth with fewer interactions.

Molch Pearl acquisition was increased by roughly 50%, while the Fishing Sack cost was reduced from 1,000 pearls to 500. The Angler's outfit pieces were also reduced from 100 to 50 pearls.

That makes Aerial Fishing considerably more appealing for players chasing the Fishing Sack or other Molch rewards.

3. Necklace of Fangs Is a New Mid-Game Ranged Upgrade

The Necklace of Fangs fills an important gap in OSRS ranged progression.

It provides +12 Ranged Accuracy and +1 Ranged Strength and comes from Turoths and Spiked Turoths at a 1/128 drop rate.

The extra Ranged Strength can translate into another max hit in the right setup, making this a particularly interesting upgrade for mid-game accounts that are not yet using an Amulet of Anguish.

4. Elemental Amulets Could Change Magic Training

The new Elemental Amulet boosts elemental spells and gives the Standard spellbook a stronger role in OSRS.

The biggest surprise from the recent OSRS updates may be the new elemental amulets.

Air, Water, Earth and Fire amulets each provide +10 Magic Accuracy and +2 max hit for their respective elemental spells. Combining all four creates the Elemental Amulet, which applies the +2 max-hit bonus across elemental spells.

The four elemental jewels come from Killerwatts, Sea Snake Hatchlings, Molanisks and Infernal Mages at a 1/64 drop rate.

The result is a surprisingly accessible upgrade for elemental magic and gives the Standard spellbook considerably more relevance.

Jagex has already acknowledged that the amulets may be stronger in endgame scenarios than originally expected, meaning further balancing could happen in the future.

5. Abyssal Lanterns Are More Useful Outside GOTR

Guardians of the Rift players also received an important change.

The Abyssal Lantern can now provide benefits outside the minigame when burning logs that have an effect beyond GOTR. Willow, Blisterwood, Magic and Redwood logs can therefore provide additional utility.

This creates new Runecrafting combinations and gives the lantern more value after players have finished grinding Guardians of the Rift rewards.

For Ironman accounts in particular, that makes Guardians of the Rift an even more attractive long-term minigame.

6. Soulreaper Axe Is Now Much Better

Melee received one of its biggest upgrades through the Soulreaper Axe changes.

The weapon gained +4 Strength bonus, its stacks no longer drain HP, and the stacks take longer to begin disappearing. Its special attack also received significant accuracy and minimum-hit improvements.

The result is a much more forgiving weapon that is easier to maintain during extended PvM encounters.

7. Sanguinesti Staff and Other Magic Weapons Were Buffed

The Sanguinesti Staff now has a 1-in-5 chance to heal instead of 1-in-6, gains an additional damage effect when healing, has a higher base max hit and costs only two Blood runes per cast instead of three.

The Master Wand and Ancient Sceptres also received substantial Magic Damage improvements, with the Master Wand gaining 10% Magic Damage and Ancient Sceptres increasing to 10%.

These changes make several previously overlooked magic options considerably more competitive.

8. Hallowed Sepulchre Is Easier to Access

Agility players also have plenty to celebrate.

The Hallowed Sepulchre Floor 4 requirement dropped from 82 to 77 Agility, while Floor 5 dropped from 92 to 87. Players can also boost their Agility to enter higher floors.

The Floor 5 Grand Coffin can now be opened with 84 Thieving or 92 Agility, with boosting available for both requirements.

This gives mid-game accounts a much earlier path toward some of the best Agility content and rewards.

9. New Agility Shortcuts Make Gielinor Faster

Jagex added a large number of new shortcuts around Gielinor.

One particularly useful addition is the shortcut inside Arceuus Library, where players with the appropriate Agility level can jump between floors instead of taking the long route around the building.

There are also new shortcuts around Draynor Manor, River Lum, Giant's Plateau, Edgeville Dungeon, Sophanem and Mos Le'Harmless.

These may not look as exciting as a new weapon, but they save time every time you travel through these areas.

10. Gauntlet Prep Is Much More Consistent

The Gauntlet and Corrupted Gauntlet also received major quality-of-life improvements.

Players now have guaranteed demi-boss locations, weapon frames are guaranteed from the first low-tier NPC kill, and several resources became stackable. Crystal Shards are also automatically placed into your inventory.

The changes make preparation more predictable and reduce some of the frustrating RNG involved in entering the boss fight.

11. Demonic Gorillas and Other PvM Encounters Changed

Major updates to Soulreaper Axe, Sanguinesti Staff, Gauntlet, Hallowed Sepulchre and new Agility shortcuts.

Demonic Gorillas will now wait until players have dealt damage at least four times and at least 70 damage with a style before changing protection prayers.

That means players can maintain their attack rhythm for longer instead of constantly reacting to prayer switches.

Other PvM encounters also received adjustments, including Phantom Muspah, Skotizo, Ice Demon and Wardens.

12. Chambers of Xeric Loot Was Rebalanced

The Chambers of Xeric also received one of the most important loot-table changes of the Summer Sweep Up.

Jagex increased the weighting of several desirable uniques, including Ancestral pieces, Dragon Claws, Twisted Bow and other items, while reducing the weighting of the Arcane and Dextrous Prayer Scrolls.

The goal is to make CoX loot feel more competitive with other raids while reducing the frustration of repeatedly receiving prayer scrolls.

What These OSRS Updates Mean for Players

The biggest theme across these changes is simple: Jagex is making old content more rewarding and less frustrating.

Chivalry is more practical, Aerial Fishing is less tedious, Agility has better access points, Guardians of the Rift has more value, and several weapons have been pushed back into competitive territory.

At the same time, the new Elemental Amulet gives elemental spells a much-needed boost. That could become one of the most interesting long-term changes, especially as Jagex continues exploring ways to make the Standard spellbook more useful.

For returning players, this is a particularly good time to check your old training methods, gear setups, buy OSRS gold and unfinished grinds. Several activities that were previously easy to ignore are now worth another look.

OSRS has changed a lot in 2026, and the Summer Sweep Up is one of the biggest reasons why.
