The Curse of the Allflame League

The Setup

Meet Valerie, a dangerous corsair captain who needs your help retrieving long-forgotten treasures from Wraeclast's oceans. Her ship, The Sovereign, is powered by Vesper—a Pondium native whose soul is bound to the vessel by the Allflame's curse. Remove him from the ship, and he dies.

Your job: find Lost Charts scattered across Wraeclast, board The Sovereign, and set sail.

How It Works

Finding Charts: Lost Charts are guarded by the undead, rival corsairs, or sea creatures. Each encounter has a custom bonus—defeating undead guarding a chest may cause a trapped soul to possess you, granting power for the rest of the area.

Diving to the Sea Floor: Once you have a chart, you descend in the Bathysphere. Survival depends on deploying Allflame Lanterns, which push back water and create pockets of safety. You can place them manually or have them fire automatically.

What You'll Find: Luminous Coral (refined into Dead Man's Sulphur), gold and valuables, and Messages in a Bottle that grant random rewards.

The Drowning Mechanic: Vesper can only power so many lanterns at once, and that power is finite. Once you place your last lantern, they begin to flicker and fade. The creatures of the deep rush in. You must retreat to the Bathysphere before the light vanishes.

Planning Voyages: Once you've charted enough areas, place your charts on Val's board, connect them, and create one giant seafloor excursion. With up to nine positions, modifiers stack fast—50% more Currency, 75% more Scarabs, rare monsters dropping Dead Man's Sulphur, and more.

Special Charts: Fields of anchors with treasure chests, Kalguuran shipments lost at sea, sunken abyssal pits teeming with monsters, and ancient artifacts.

Returning Loot: Each chart contains a capsule storing about an inventory of loot. Stuff these full, send Val a signal, and she pulls them to the surface. Once satisfied, call the Bathysphere and survive until it arrives.

Allflame Crafting

Below decks, Vesper's soul powers the league's crafting system. Give him an item, a currency you'd normally use on it, and Dead Man's Sulphur. The item splits into multiple ghostly outcomes—each being the result of applying that currency. Pick one to keep; the rest go up in smoke.

This works with almost any crafting step—Influenced Exalted Orbs, expensive fossil combinations, anything. The more potent the craft, the more sulphur required.

Ducats – Rare Seafloor Relics: Hidden in the deepest waters are rare Ducats with unique effects:

Kishara's Ducat: Creates ghostly copies while preserving individual modifiers

Genteel's Ducat: Transforms one attribute requirement into another

Brinehook's Ducat: Crafts a random Pantheon Aspect Skill onto an item

Socket System Overhaul

After nearly twenty years, GGG has fundamentally redesigned socket colors. Sockets no longer restrict what you can socket. You can put any colored gem into any socket.

What Socket Colors Now Do: Colored sockets now serve as a pure upgrade layer. If you put a gem into a matching socket color, you gain a quality bonus (approximately 10%). Chromatic Orbs now guarantee at least one red, blue, or green socket.

This allows smoother progression in both campaign and endgame.

Mercenaries Return

Mercenaries appear from Act 3 onwards. Before a duel, you see their gear and skills. You wager gold for an item they carry. Win, and you get the item plus a temporary ally. Lose, and you forfeit the gold.

Warrants: In maps, you can request a mercenary's warrant—a promise to duel again later with new items. Each mercenary grants their warrant once, and warrants are tradable.

The Luminary Ascendancy (Scion): Permanently hire up to 3 mercenaries (two in reserve, one active). You can change their equipment—unlike regular mercenaries. Unique item restrictions exist but can be bypassed with passive nodes. Passives empower mercenaries with link skills or have them protect you and enhance auras. Mercenaries don't count as party members.

Abyss Rework

No more backtracking—pits are already open and spilling energy. Slay enemies to send souls into the pit, drawing out the Abyssal Legion. Exclusive rewards: Abyss is now the sole source of Abyssal Jewels and Stygian Vises. New pinnacle boss with unique items.

Legion Rework

Incubators removed. Enshrouding Crystals create Vestigial Unique Items—transform one unique into another (Shaper's Touch → Maligaro's Virtuosity) while retaining a trace of the original.

QoL: No need to kill every monster to start. Fewer splinters, larger stacks. Emblems removed. Reward progress tracked by charging crystals, not screen clutter.

Talismans

Bestiary-exclusive rewards. No longer drop corrupted. Special modifiers are enchantments (compete with blight ointments), not implicits. All uniques improved.

Atlas Anomalies

Anomalies appear on the Atlas after Voidstone-affected maps. No map item required. Examples: Cadiro offering items for gold, Reflecting Mists, Heist blueprints, overgrown Sacred Groves. Unaffected by Atlas tree, often revisitable.

Spellcasting Balance

Physical spells get higher crit, lower damage. Lightning spells get faster cast speed, higher mana cost.

New Pacts: Exceptional skill gems themed around Beyond demons—Pact of Beidat empowers projectiles and area spells, Pact of Ghorr empowers DoT builds, Pact of K'tash empowers Vaal spells with soul refunds, and Pact of Lycia empowers channelling spells with lightning bolts. If you're planning to test multiple Pact builds, you can find cheap POE currency at MMOEXP to fund your experiments and get each character online without breaking the bank.
