Summary
If you want the highest currency-per-hour farming method this league, city map Expedition is the answer — Verisium Remnants provide massive effectiveness and rarity bonuses, cities allow 4 tablets and 2 Expedition encounters per map for far more remnants than normal maps, making it a literal money printer; those who'd rather skip the grind can buy POE2 Currency, but if you want to earn it yourself, this is the fastest path.
Step 1: Core Expedition Gameplay
Expedition works by placing explosives, detonating buried markers and remnants, and then clearing the "enraged" monsters.
The single most important rule: Your goal is to detonate as many Verisium Remnants as possible. Everything else is secondary. If you can grab chests or other rewards along the way, great. If you can't, skip them. Don't slow down for full clears.
As for "should I full clear the map first" — in POE2 there are no mandatory clear mechanics yet (like Eldritch Altars in POE1), so you only need to kill rare monsters, then complete the Expedition and boss as quickly as possible. Order doesn't matter. The core is movement speed.
Each map gives you a limited number of detonations. If some remnants are positioned awkwardly and are hard to cover, you may need to invest in an extra explosive via the Atlas tree to ensure coverage.
Step 2: Expedition Atlas Tree
This is the core configuration. The current version revolves around city maps, since only cities can hold 4 tablets.
Mandatory Nodes
Node | Effect | Why |
Double or Nothing | 25% chance to add an additional runic modifier to remnants | Directly increases the reward pool |
Calculated Investment | 25% chance for remnants to count as affected by a power rune | Further amplifies remnant effects |
Strategic Advantage Speed | Greatly reduces the risk of "bricking" chains | In practice, almost no bricks occur |
Surpassing Chance to Contain Additional Remnant | +30~40% additional remnant chance per tablet | The highest-value modifier |
On "extra remnant vs. extra explosive": This is a 60/40 trade-off. An extra remnant means more money, but an extra explosive lets you cover more remnants. In maps with random layouts, the extra explosive is slightly more practical, because missing two or three remnants due to bad positioning costs far more than having one fewer remnant.
City Biome Choices
City map biome selection has clear priorities:
Ezamir Cities → Swamp: The key is "Exalted Orbs have a 10% chance to drop as Chaos Orbs." This conversion makes your income explode — detonating dozens of Exalts and watching them turn into Chaos is common.
V Cities → Forest: Increases rare monster count. Simple and effective.
Faradun Cities → Desert: Provides monster effectiveness, which fits Expedition's reward logic perfectly.
City-Specific Nodes
The unique value of city maps lies in invasions and extra bosses:
Warring Survivors: 20% chance to be invaded by another faction.
Warlord's Vendetta: Invaded cities have a 20% chance to contain an extra Citadel Boss.
Stacked together, you have a chance to encounter a random Citadel Boss that drops Crisis Fragments — Ancient and Weathered fragments are worth about 1~2 Divines, while Faded fragments can reach 10+ Divines. Even if the proc rate is low, when it hits, it's pure profit. Additionally, Summoning Circles have a 5% chance to summon a random Citadel Boss. While normally not recommended, it's worth investing in for this specific setup.
Map Master Choice
Jado is the best choice for Expedition:
Partial Translations: Amplifies tablet modifiers. Tablets provide massive bonuses, so further scaling is critical.
Unexpected Missions: Free extra random modifier while preserving city biome bonuses. Extremely high value.
Eastern Knowledge: Remnants have a chance to be rerolled and automatically keep the rarer result. Expedition maps have many remnants, so this node pays off heavily.
The last point is flexible: Long Days (more Summoning Circles/Exiles) or Keen Appraisal (easier to find high-value items). Neither is game-changing.
Step 3: Tablets and Map Preparation
Expedition Tablet Modifier Priority
Effectiveness is a non-negotiable mandatory modifier. After that, prioritize:
Surpassing Chance to Contain Additional Remnant (30%~40%): Every tablet needs this. Four tablets stacked = 120%+ additional remnant chance, guaranteeing at least one extra remnant, potentially more.
Item Rarity: If paired with Effectiveness, tablets become very expensive, but it's worth the investment.
Secondary Options: Monster Effectiveness, Monster Rarity — both are acceptable.
What to avoid:
Additional Bosses Encased in Ice: Terrible rewards, and the "monkey boss" can one-shot you when you least expect it, ending your map.
Vaal Relics (V Relics): Take up massive space, come with immunity modifiers (turning off your damage), and the rewards don't justify the difficulty. Testing tablets full of Vaal Relics will make you want to quit within minutes.
