Summary: Call of Duty has officially confirmed a major change coming to Warzone with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1: previously earned and purchased content will continue into the new Warzone chapter, while a new Operator Skin Toggle will give players more control over which Operators they see in matches. At the same time, legacy weapons from recent Call of Duty games are being moved into a dedicated Legacy system with important limitations.

The announcement answers two of the biggest questions surrounding the next Warzone transition: will old content carry forward, buy COD MW4 Bot Lobbies and can players finally filter out non-MW4 Operator skins?

Modern Warfare 4 Warzone introduces Carry Forward and a new Operator Skin Toggle, giving players more control over legacy content and the Operators they see in matches.

MW4 Warzone Carry Forward Is Officially Confirmed

The biggest piece of news is that Warzone will continue to support previously earned and purchased content when Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 begins.

According to the official announcement, Operators and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 will remain available in Warzone. Players will keep access to the Skins, Blueprints and other eligible content they already own.

That means the transition to MW4 is not a complete reset for Warzone collections.

However, Carry Forward does not mean that every old weapon will function exactly like a current MW4 weapon.

How the MW4 Operator Skin Toggle Works

The second major feature is the new Operator Skin Toggle, and unlike Carry Forward, this is designed specifically to control what players see.

The toggle will be available in Warzone only starting with MW4 Season 1. When enabled, players will see MW4 Operators in place of non-MW4 Operators used by other people. This applies to enemies, party members and squadmates in both the lobby and during matches.

The important part is that this is a local visual filter.

It does not remove anyone else's skin. It does not change another player's loadout. And it does not affect what other players see.

Your own equipped Operator is also unaffected. Even when the toggle is enabled, you can continue seeing your selected Operator, including an Operator from another Call of Duty title.

The feature will also be off by default.

The MW4 Warzone Operator Skin Toggle replaces non-MW4 Operators with MW4 Operators on the player's screen while leaving their own equipped Operator unchanged.

Can You Still Use MW2, MW3, BO6 and BO7 Weapons?

Yes, but the legacy weapon system comes with restrictions.

All weapons from Modern Warfare II through Black Ops 7 will be accessible through the Legacy tab in the Warzone Loadout menu.

The important limitation is that legacy weapons will not support the normal Gunsmith functionality or previous Custom Loadouts.

Instead, each legacy base weapon will have a predefined five-attachment version available through the Armory. Existing legacy Blueprints can also remain available with their existing attachment setups.

That creates a clear distinction between MW4 weapons and older weapons.

MW4 guns can occupy the normal modern weapon ecosystem, while legacy guns remain available as preserved options without receiving the same degree of customization.

Legacy weapons from MW2, MW3, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 remain available in Warzone through the Legacy tab with predefined attachment setups.

What Happens to Old Operator Skins and Blueprints?

Your existing collection isn't being deleted.

Activision explicitly says that Operators, Operator Skins and Weapon Blueprints from MWII, MWIII, BO6 and BO7 will remain available in Warzone during Season 1. Existing Carry Forward plans for those previous titles are not being changed by the new Operator Skin Toggle announcement.

There is, however, an important correction to the original blog post. Activision initially stated that legacy Weapon Camos would carry forward, then corrected the information and said this was incorrect. The confirmed content is Operators, Operator Skins and Weapon Blueprints, rather than the previously stated Weapon Camos.

That distinction is worth remembering before publishing any guide based on the initial announcement.

Why the Legacy Weapon System Matters for MW4 Warzone

Keeping years of weapons inside Warzone creates a much larger overall arsenal, but Activision's stated goal is for the weapon meta to feel primarily centered around Modern Warfare 4.

Raven Software says it will continue its commitment to biweekly weapon balancing, with the MW4 weapon lineup receiving ongoing attention throughout the seasons.

The Legacy tab therefore appears designed to preserve access without making every historical weapon an equal part of the main MW4 balancing ecosystem.

For players who have favorite MW2, MW3, BO6 or BO7 weapons, the system keeps those options available. For players who want Warzone to visually resemble the latest Modern Warfare release, the new Operator Skin Toggle provides a separate solution.

When Does the MW4 Warzone Skin Toggle Arrive?

The new Operator Skin Toggle and the updated Carry Forward system are tied to Modern Warfare 4 Season 1.

The toggle applies to Warzone rather than MW4 Multiplayer, and it only changes the visual experience on the player's own client. The feature is off by default, meaning players who want the MW4-only presentation will need to enable it themselves.

Overall, the MW4 Warzone transition is shaping up as a compromise between two different player expectations: preserving years of previously purchased and earned content while giving players a way to make the game look more consistent with the new Modern Warfare chapter.

The key points are simple: Carry Forward remains, legacy weapons move to the Legacy tab, COD MW4 Bot Lobbies, old weapons lose full Gunsmith customization, and the new Operator Skin Toggle lets you see MW4 Operators instead of other players' non-MW4 skins.
