Summary
The MW4 Campaign Trailer just dropped, and it delivers one of the biggest Modern Warfare 4 story reveals so far. Captain Price is now being hunted by Ghost and Gaz, South Korea is under full-scale invasion, and the mysterious Archer finally gets a face in the form of Mads Mikkelsen.
The trailer debuted during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show presentation on September 17. Activision says it expands on Price's shadow operations, former allies becoming enemies, the invasion of South Korea, and a weapon being delivered to the mysterious Archer. Campaign Early Access begins October 16, ahead of the full October 23 launch.
Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Puts Captain Price on the Run
The Modern Warfare 4 campaign changes the status quo immediately: Price is no longer the unquestioned leader of Task Force 141.
After assassinating General Shepherd in Modern Warfare III, Task Force 141 has been disbanded and Price has gone off-grid. That creates a major fracture between the remaining operators, with Ghost and Gaz now ordered to capture or kill their former captain. Kate Laswell remains in contact with Price, although even she has concerns about his increasingly unconventional methods. For players, can buy COD MW4 Bot Lobbies for prepare.
The trailer also confirms one of the campaign's strangest alliances yet. Price teams up with Valeria Garza, the Las Almas Cartel leader known as El Sin Nombre.
That relationship is important because Price is no longer simply fighting alongside familiar 141 operators. He is working with people he previously considered enemies while the people who once followed him are now hunting him.
The result is a Modern Warfare 4 campaign built around fractured alliances and competing objectives.
MW4 Campaign Trailer Reveals the South Korea Invasion
The MW4 Campaign Trailer also provides a much clearer look at the Korean storyline.
North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of South Korea, with Private Park Hyun Jun and his squad fighting to defend the country. The trailer also shows U.S. and Republic of Korea Marines involved in major ground combat and an amphibious assault.
This storyline is not simply background material for Price. Activision's official campaign recap says the game begins with the invasion of Hajin City and takes players through a globe-spanning campaign involving Korea, New York, Paris and Mumbai.
That gives MW4 two major narrative tracks: Price's personal war while he is being hunted, and a rapidly escalating military conflict across the Korean Peninsula.
The trailer strongly suggests those storylines are connected by something much bigger.
Who Is The Archer in Modern Warfare 4?
The biggest mystery in the Modern Warfare 4 campaign trailer appears right at the end.
Kate Laswell refers to a weapon of war being moved toward a mysterious enemy known as The Archer. Activision says the weapon could potentially overturn the existing world order, but it has deliberately kept both the weapon and Archer's exact motives secret.
Then the trailer cuts to a familiar face: Mads Mikkelsen.
Multiple gaming outlets have identified Mikkelsen as the major antagonist connected to The Archer, although Activision's own campaign article currently keeps the character's identity deliberately vague rather than explicitly naming Mikkelsen.
His appearance is extremely brief, but the scene immediately puts him in a tense exchange with Price. His dialogue suggests that Price is going to suffer personally before this conflict is finished.
That makes Mads Mikkelsen one of the biggest new talking points around MW4, while also leaving the most important questions unanswered: What is the weapon? Who exactly is Archer? And how does this character connect to Price, Ghost, Gaz and the Korean invasion?
Modern Warfare 4 Release Date and Campaign Early Access
The Modern Warfare 4 release date is October 23, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Players who digitally pre-order or pre-purchase the Standard Digital Edition, buy COD MW4 Bot Lobbies or Vault Edition can access the Campaign starting October 16.
That makes the new MW4 Campaign Trailer a major pre-launch story beat rather than just another cinematic preview.
Price is being hunted by Ghost and Gaz, Valeria has become an unlikely ally, North Korea has invaded South Korea, and a mysterious weapon is heading toward The Archer.
With Mads Mikkelsen now apparently sitting at the center of that mystery, the Modern Warfare 4 campaign has a lot more unanswered questions heading into October.
