Summary
Diablo 4 Season 14 brings significant buffs to the Warlock class, making it an excellent choice for players looking to level quickly. The Dread Claws build with Abyss Demon minion synergy is the fastest setup to reach max level and start torment tiers. This guide covers the complete skill tree progression from level 1 to 50, soul shard selection, aspects, mercenaries, and early paragon choices. The build focuses on Dread Claws as the primary damage skill, supplemented by Rampage and Command Fallen for additional damage and resource generation. To gear up faster, buy Diablo 4 Gold and grab the aspects and items you need.
Skill Tree Progression
Level 1-5: Getting Started
Doom (Basic Skill) - Take this at level 1. It applies hex to enemies, increasing the abyss damage they take when at lower health. This is both an abyss skill and synergizes with our core skill.
Wrath Doom (Modifier) - Take at level 5. This provides extra passive wrath generation for using Doom, which we already do consistently.
Dread Claws (Core Skill) - Take at level 3 with your second skill point. This is your primary damage skill. Spend resources to deal lots of damage.
Damage Dread Claws (Modifier) - Take the damage increase over cost reduction. The cost reduction does not provide enough benefit for how we use Dread Claws.
Level 6-10: Mobility and Early Damage
Nether Step (Defensive/Movement Skill) - Take at level 4. Primarily used as a movement skill to speed up leveling.
Extra Charge (Nether Step Modifier) - Take at level 6. Provides more burst movement between combat sections, significantly speeding up leveling.
Assimilation Doom - Take at level 9. Allows Doom to apply vulnerable, weakening, or slow to enemies. Vulnerable application is the main reason to take this.
Vulnerable Dread Claws - Take at level 10. This is your early way of applying vulnerable before other methods become available.
Level 11-15: Archfiend Skills
Rampage (Archfiend Skill) - Take at level 8. This is a strong damage skill that counts as a greater demon, activating other synergies later.
Rampage Kill Streak Damage - Take at level 12. Provides increased damage from Rampage after kills. Not your main damage skill, but helps early on.
Contagion Doom (Variant) - Take at level 14. When you kill a hexed enemy, Doom spreads the hex to another enemy. This makes it easier to damage more enemies.
Cascading Dread Claws - Take at level 15. Sends out additional Dread Claws and increases damage per claw. This is the best variant we can consistently use at this point.
Level 16-20: First Soul Shard and Upgrades
Ambush Dread Claws - Replace Vulnerable Dread Claws once you have your first Soul Shard. Ambush gives increased damage with the first claw strike, applying from stealth.
Elite Hit Chance (Rampage) - Take at level 18. Provides a 100% chance to trigger Rampage's bonus effect (eviscerate) against elite enemies.
Terror Swarm (Ultimate) - Take at level 19. A consistent ultimate skill that synergizes with the abyss demonology build archetype.
Level 21-30: The Command Fallen Swap
Abyssal Titan Rampage - Take at level 20. Turns Rampage into an abyss recast skill, replacing Eviscerate with knockdown. This allows recast skills to apply hex.
Command Fallen - Replace Doom entirely at this point. Take one point in Command Fallen itself, one in Wrath, and one in Dominance for resource generation.
Megalomaniac (Command Fallen Variant) - Summons more lunatics, generating more wrath and dominance.
Lesser Demon Wrath (Rampage) - Replace Kill Streak Damage with this. Command Fallen's lesser demons will generate more wrath when you use Rampage frequently.
Extra Bites (Terror Swarm Modifier) - Take at level 22. Makes Terror Swarm attack extra times per second.
Pull Terror Swarm - Take at level 24. Pulls enemies into the center of the swarm, making Dread Claw burst kills easier.
Nightmare Terror Swarm (Variant) - Take at level 26. Increases damage dramatically and makes it an abyss recast skill.
Level 31-40: Mid-Game Power Spike
Fallen Rush (Command Fallen Variant) - Take at level 30. Replaces Megalomaniac. Synergizes better with the build and applies as an abyss skill.
Shadow Recall (Nether Step Variant) - Take at level 34. Brings abyss summons with you when using Nether Step and increases their duration. Affects Rampage, Command Fallen, and Terror Swarm.
Fill Out Remaining Points - Put remaining points into Dread Claws, then Rampage, and finally Nether Step for increased movement speed duration.
Level 41-50: Final Variants
Metamorphosis (Ultimate) - At level 40, replace Terror Swarm completely. Take one point in Metamorphosis, Maximum Life modifier, Dominance Cost Reduction, and Terror Demon variant.
Terror Demon (Metamorphosis Variant) - Turns Metamorphosis into an abyss skill that does not replace any skills. Gives four shadow form stacks every second while active. Abyss skills do not break stealth while active.
Enveloping Terror (Dread Claws) - Replace Cascading Dread Claws. Makes Dread Claws happen in a circle around you and consumes one stack of Shadow Form to conjure another set of Dread Claws around your most recent greater demon summon. This essentially doubles your damage when you have shadow form stacks.
Remaining Points - Put all remaining points into Rampage, then Nether Step, Command Fallen, and finally Metamorphosis (mostly a dump slot).
Soul Shards and Fragments
Mastermind Shard
Take Mastermind Shard for abyss skill damage and movement speed tied to shadow form. Shadow form is primarily activated through Nether Step early on and becomes much more consistent with Terror Demon Metamorphosis at level 40.
Blasphemous Fragment
This is the key fragment choice. It provides hex application from recast skills (primarily Rampage) and increases damage of abyss demonology skills, which covers all your actual damage sources.
Aspects, Runes, and Gems
Priority Aspects for Leveling
Calamitous Aspect - Increases critical hit chance per stack of hex. This is a massive damage increase if you find it early and it stays strong into endgame.
Insidious Aspect - Increases damage at the start of combat consistently, letting you burst down enemies quicker when moving fast.
Aggressive Aspect - Solid all-around damage increase.
Demonic Aspect - Good for single-target damage where you have more time to build up.
Rune Words
Gar - Highest priority magic rarity invocation for consistent crit chance.
Seer - Best magic rarity ritual to activate Gar.
Thul - If you find it early, applies frost novas for comfort and crowd control.
Gems
Diamonds in Jewelry - Element resistances
Amethysts in Weapons - Shadow damage increase
Sapphires in Armor - Extra willpower
Mercenaries
Subo (Active Mercenary)
Subo is excellent for leveling. Go down the left tree for:
Increased movement speed after attacking elites
Opening Fire - Increased critical strike damage to enemies hit by Subo's cover fire
Faryana (Reinforcement)
Take her Bloodthirst ability for extra attack speed, making things die faster.
Early Paragon Board
First Board
Go up the right side to reach the glyph socket. Place the Demonology glyph here. The secondary bonus is a hefty multiplier that will always be active, and the primary bonus affects every source of damage in this build.
Second Board
Greater Hex is the recommended second board. Go directly to the legendary node for a massive damage increase against enemies and damage reduction from them. This combination helps you reach higher torment difficulties earlier.
Playstyle Guide
Early Version (Levels 1-20)
Spam Dread Claws as much as resources allow
Use Nether Step purely for movement
Use Rampage on cooldown for damage
Mid-Game (Levels 21-40)
Keep Rampage active with high uptime
Spam the recast on Rampage while active (Abyssal Titan variant)
Use Command Fallen for resource generation
Save Terror Swarm for elites and bosses
Late-Game (Levels 41+)
Maintain Metamorphosis (Terror Demon variant) for permanent shadow form stacks
Spam Dread Claws with Enveloping Terror for doubled damage
Command Fallen provides consistent resources
Rampage remains a strong damage source
Nether Step now brings your summons with you and extends their duration
Build Flexibility
Defensive Option
If you need more damage reduction, swap the Extra Charge modifier on Nether Step for the Damage Reduction modifier. This provides a nearly always-active damage reduction bonus.
Ultimate Choice
You can stick with Terror Swarm if you prefer how it feels, especially with the Season 14 buffs. However, Metamorphosis with the Terror Demon variant provides better synergy with the Dread Claws build.
Final Thoughts
The Dread Claws Warlock build offers a fast, comfortable leveling experience in Season 14. The key power spikes occur at level 20 (Command Fallen swap), level 34 (Shadow Recall), and level 40 (Metamorphosis with Terror Demon). Following this skill tree progression will get you to max level quickly while providing solid damage and survivability. With Diablo 4 Gold, you can grab the aspects and gear to hit those power spikes even faster.
