Summary

Season 15's War Plan system is the single most important progression tool in the game right now. Choosing the right nodes and pairing them with the correct Soul Splinters can mean the difference between 25 hours to 230 Paragon and a much slower grind. For players who want to accelerate their journey, many choose to buy D4 Items to supplement their farming efforts and gear up faster. This guide covers the optimal setups for experience, gold, loot, and Mythic farming based on proven 25-hour character progression.

Diablo 4 Season 15 War Plans Guide: Best Nodes, Splinters & Fastest XP and Mythic Routes

The Default Splinter Setup: Damnation + Lies

Before you touch any activity, socket your Lyre's Crown with two Splinters:

Splinter of Damnation — increases Monster Power by 1 and grants bonus experience. Monster Power stacks, boosting life, damage, experience, and rewards of everything you fight.

Splinter of Lies — grants 89% increased gold and materials plus 25% more experience.

Equip these two for everything: Helltides, Lair Bosses, Nightmare Dungeons, Escalations, and Undercity runs. The only exception is the Pit — swap them for damage-focused Splinters there, since farming Splinters only slows you down without meaningful XP payoff.

With this setup, you can reach 230 Paragon points in roughly 25 hours on a single character.

Experience Farming: Undercity Is King

Maggots in Helltides used to be the XP meta, but their XP gain was nerfed and you no longer target-farm them. The current best XP method is the Undercity.

Why Undercity?

The Jade Epiphany node was buffed to grant experience orbs whenever you gain Attunement — and the orb amount was doubled to 20 total per run.

Pair this with:

Splinter of Destruction — grants 50% more experience orbs and +1 Monster Power (stacking with Damnation for +2 total)

Finely Tuned Pathfinder node

Endless Storm node

The Result

With these nodes active, you clear every beacon, build Attunement faster than ever, and — critically — get a teleportation portal to the boss as soon as your achievement is full on the second floor. No more trudging through the third floor.

A single Undercity run can grant half a level in a very short time. Don't forget to actually collect the experience orbs before clicking the portal.

For maximum value, invest your remaining points into Unfortunate Souls and Gutter Filth, which spawn portal pranksters when you interact with beacons. Don't interact with every beacon — just enough to keep moving and get the XP.

Always put a Tribute in for runes, talisman items, or Horadric Cube materials. The latter helps enormously with Khazra Tuning Prisms.

Helltides: Still Worth It for Cinders and Lair Keys

Helltides were nerfed for XP, but they remain valuable. Here's the routine:

Go for Writhen Rod and grab Bursting Brood

Push your Threat bar to two-thirds full using Chaos Portals (the fastest method)

Ride around killing Maggots for Lair Keys, experience orbs, decent loot, boss trophies, and — most importantly — tons of Cinders

Maggots are the prime Cinder source. If you need 250 or even 750 Cinders, one Maggot spawn after your Threat is two-thirds full will fill your pockets.

Left or Right?

Left side (Meat Brothers): Hellborn at the end of the Threat are replaced by Butchers for tons of XP and Profane Mine Cages to push Monster Power further.

Right side: Pick up the 666 Cinder chest. Since you've already increased Monster Power via Splinters, the extra push isn't required — the Cinder chest is the better pickup.

Take Ashes to Ashes to make this more efficient.

Tree of Whispers: Sparks and Superior Lair Keys

The Tree of Whispers is genuinely strong this season. Go right side first with:

Grim Retribution at rank 5

Splinter of Destruction equipped

This makes Whisper Ambushes trigger more often. At level 22 with Splinter of Destruction, Whisper Ambushes grant Superior Lair Keys and drop Greater Collections of Chaos.

Alternatively, the Splinter of Hatred can give more experience from Whisper caches. The choice comes down to what you do more often — Undercity runs or Whisper caches.

Recommended Tree Setup

First three points: all right side

Remaining points: middle path for Wisdom of Whispers, Grim Mysteries, and Resplendent Favor

This maximizes Resplendent Sparks. Since you can now get random Mythic Uniques with Sparks — not just iconic ones — and it costs only Sparks with no gold, you want as many as humanly possible.

Skip Corrupted Roots farming. It's not worth it anymore compared to guaranteed XP and Spark chances.

Nightmare Dungeon Escalations: Juiced with Splinter of Hatred

Escalations are excellent with the Splinter of Hatred, especially Dread Revival, which gives bosses a chance to revive multiple times. A boss reviving four or five times in a row means loot, loot, and more loot.

With Waking Spurs, you get one chest at the end with a chance for a second. These chests often contain lower-rarity Soul Splinters — enough to five-to-one amalgamate up to Legendary or even Unique.

Critical Node: Branching Pathways

Before taking Waking Spurs, go down the middle for Branching Pathways. This lets you choose from two portals at the end of each Escalation dungeon, so after dungeon one you can pick:

Material Reserve — for Khazra Tuning Prisms

Gold Reserve — usually unnecessary

Gem Reserve — for Grand Jewels to craft Enigma or boost damage

This is arguably the best node in all War Plans because Material Reserves directly improve your build.

After those three, go left for Gauntlet and take Peerless Conviction. Killing elites and champions in Nightmare Dungeons grants Conviction stacks, which give you a chest at the end for even more rewards — with a high chance to contain Splinters.

The Pit: Speed Over Everything

Don't enter the Pit with farming Splinters equipped — you're just making it harder for no XP benefit. Your goal is to finish as fast as possible.

Use the Splinter of Hatred here. Instead of Grizzly Trophies, you get more Progression Orbs randomly from enemies. Even without Heart of Stone, you'll get Progression Orbs flying at you and finish quicker.

Pit Node Setup

Shan's Haste

Heart of Stone

Shan's Blessing

Shan's Blessing is insane with Splinter of Hatred — at rank 20, you can upgrade glyphs as if the tier were 10 levels higher. Finish at 130, upgrade with 140. Finish at 140, upgrade with 150.

Then grab Annoying Orb Thieves, and work toward Torren Soul, which makes all Progression Orbs in the Pit grant experience. This means alt leveling becomes trivial — combine it with Undercity and you can hit level 70 in no time, since War Plans are now shared across characters.

Infernal Hordes: Skip Them

Infernal Hordes are not worth it this season. Even with bonus Splinters, everything else is better. You'd have to take the Splinter of Terror, which is useless anyway. Avoid it entirely.

Lair Bosses: Gold, Runes, and Mythics

Lair Bosses are where the Splinter of Destruction shines again. At rank 18+, the middle boss (opening Nemesis Lairs) has a much higher chance to spawn.

Recommended Path

Start on the left side where bosses drop more runes and grant more Monster Power, with an extra chest appearing in the boss lair for double loot. Then convert everything unimportant into gold.

With 25 hours on one character, you can sit at 3 billion gold without trading — just playing the game.

Then take Golden Horde and go middle for Nemesis portals. Alternatively, go right side for Dock of Asteroth and Exotic Armory, which drops an additional three unique items from any class at rank 20 with Splinter of Destruction.

The Ultimate Mythic Farm: Spam Baal

For pure Mythic farming, spam Baal. You can rush to him in under 2 minutes.

Navigation Shortcut

Entrance at bottom left → next area is top right

Entrance at bottom right → next area is top left

Head directly to the top right. If the connector isn't there, it's more top than right. This brings you to Ariat Summit — jump on your horse, activate the ancients, and use autocast skills to run through without manual input.

In the next area, take the first way left or right, then commit all the way. It's usually a quick one-way street. Kill Baal's guard, then Baal himself. He drops a Mythic roughly every second run.

Other Mythic Sources

Balile — requires Superior Lair Keys

All Three Greater Evils at once — drops the most insane Mythic loot, including the Hellfire Torch Charm (counts as a set charm, allows another unique, all skills, elemental resistance, all stats)

The three-Greater-Evil method requires all three Splinters: Destruction, Terror, and Hatred.

Splinter Acquisition: How to Get Destruction, Terror, and Hatred

Kill Mephisto → Splinter of Hatred

Kill Baal → Splinter of Destruction

Kill Diablo → Splinter of Terror

Kill Baal alone → can drop all three, but rarely

Nightmare Dungeon Escalations → end-of-dungeon chests and completion caches have a decent chance to contain these Splinters
