Summary

The community has discovered a powerful new way to farm Splinters in Diablo 4 by manipulating Prime Evil spawns in combination with Grim Favors. With the right War Plan, you can generate tons of splinters in just minutes — along with mythics and other high-value loot — though if you'd rather skip the grind entirely, you can always buy Diablo 4 Items instead. This step-by-step guide covers everything you need to know.

Diablo 4 Splinter Farming Guide: Fast Prime Evil Echo Spawns with Grim Favors

What You Need Before You Start

The Correct War Plan (Mandatory)

Your War Plan must include:

Material Wealth node — significantly increases your chance of getting splinters

Malignant Invasion — for whisper ambushes

The last two nodes are optional, but Material Wealth and Malignant Invasion are required for the highest chance.

Important: It's not the whispers themselves that spawn the Prime Evil echoes — it's the ambushes that spawn from those whispers. Those ambushes have a very high chance of spawning splinters.

A full step-by-step guide with the right War Plans is linked below, along with a video from Mr. Grumpy Gamers, who figured this out and tested it extensively with his community. Big shout-out to him and the Twitch chat for helping test this.

How the Farm Works

Step 1: Complete Grim Favors in the Open World

You must complete Grim Favors (whispers) in the open world.

Layer bosses do not work — Prime Evil echoes can only spawn in the open world

Dungeon layers and bosses don't count

Cellars don't work — they're instance content

Best locations:

Scosglen — harvest rituals, normal rituals, altars, corpses

Helltide — especially the Blood Maiden, which has a very high chance because you complete five Grim Favors at once

The higher the Grim Favor reward, the higher the chance of spawning a Prime Evil echo.

Step 2: Watch for the Ambush

Each whisper has a chance to get ambushed by the Prime Evils. When an ambush spawns:

It blinks on your minimap

A brain symbol appears — you get extra bosses and extra Grim Favors

A small message appears above your head: "An echo of Mephisto is emerging nearby"

Pay close attention — this message is very easy to miss. I missed my first one after only 5 minutes.

Step 3: Kill the Prime Evil

When the Prime Evil spawns, kill it. They have:

Splinters

Mythics

Other high-value loot

Step 4: Respect the 5-Minute Cooldown

After a Prime Evil spawns, there's a 5-minute cooldown until the next one can spawn. Keep this in mind and wait 5 minutes before expecting another.

Step 5: Turn In Your Grim Favors

Make sure to turn in your Grim Favors every time. If you hold onto completed Grim Favors, the ambushes cannot spawn.

Which Prime Evil Spawns?

You will always trigger the Prime Evil associated with your Prime Evil power. For example, if you have Hatred, it will always trigger the Echo of Mephisto.

If someone else triggers and they have the Terror Splinter, it will trigger Diablo.

High player count influences the spawn even further. In Helltide, other players completing Grim Favors also have a chance to trigger spawns.

This works completely solo as well, but more players means more chances.

How to Run the Farm Efficiently

In Scosglen (Open World)

Go to a waypoint

Complete Grim Favors — rituals, harvests, altars, corpses

Skip cellars (they don't work)

Turn in Grim Favors as you complete them

Example rotation:

Finish a ritual → complete the Grim Favor

Check for a corpse (sometimes hiding, only worth one Grim Favor)

Do the altar

Complete harvests

Local events are optional — usually take too long

You won't get an ambush every time. It's RNG. But if you keep doing this, there's a very good chance.

In Helltide (Higher Chance)

Go to the Helltide

Complete whispers there — even higher chance because you're completing five Grim Favors at the Maiden

Kill cultists for additional Grim Favors

When the Maiden spawns, it attracts other players

Turn in your Grim Favors after the Maiden

Note: Other players can spawn the Prime Evil as well. Watch the chat — if someone else spawns it, it will trigger the cooldown.

PvP Area (Optional)

The PvP area also has a chance of spawning the boss. Reports confirm the boss has spawned there. Grim Favors even after the event is over are still a nice way to farm with the new War Plans.

What the Ambush Looks Like

When you get an ambush:

A brain symbol appears on the map

Extra bosses spawn

You get extra Grim Favors

There's a very high chance to activate the Echo of Mephisto (or whatever Grim Favor boss splinter you're going to get)

It's not guaranteed, but the chance is high. You can also finish other objectives in the area while waiting — you're gaining loads of materials anyway.

Additional Tips

Terror Splinter Efficiency

The Terror Splinter makes the farm more efficient because you're getting more ambushes

You can also use Terror to get more red elites in Helltides

Don't Hold Caches

You don't need to hold the caches — they don't affect the drop rate at all

Reputation Farming

As you do this, you're building tons of reputation

Turn in your Grim Favors for extra caches

You can get 33+ caches from a single farming session

Double Splinters

Right now, you can still get double splinters

Hopefully this will be changed, but for now, take advantage of it

What You Can Get

From Prime Evil echoes and ambushes, you can get:

Splinter of Hatred

Mythics

Legendaries (guaranteed from some Grim Favors)

Tons of materials

Hellfire Torches (from Uber Tristram)

Step-by-Step Summary

Choose the correct War Plan — Material Wealth + Malignant Invasion

Complete Grim Favors in the open world — Scosglen or Helltide

Turn in Grim Favors every time — don't hold them

Watch for the ambush message — "An echo of Mephisto is emerging nearby"

Kill the Prime Evil when it spawns

Wait 5 minutes before expecting another spawn

Go to Helltide if no spawn — higher chance at the Blood Maiden

Repeat — it's RNG, but the chances are good

Uber Tristram Tip

When you do Uber Tristram, try to find other people and get four times the loot and 10 times the mythic drop rate. You can get tons of cool torches here. They're non-bugged, so good luck.

Final Thoughts

This Prime Evil echo farming method is a crazy efficient way to get splinters, mythics, and tons of reputation. If you'd rather not rely on RNG, you can also look for Diablo 4 Items for sale, and MMOEXP is a trusted and reliable option for that. It's RNG, but people are reporting multiple spawns in Helltide, and the drops are tremendous. Test it out and see how long it takes you to get the stuff.
