How to Trade in Path of Exile

Trading is one of the most important progression systems in Path of Exile. Whether you need powerful gear, high-level gems, crafting materials, or additional POE Currency, learning how to use the trade system efficiently can greatly improve your character progression. Since Patch 3.27 introduced asynchronous trading through Faustus, buying and selling items has become more convenient than before. To use this feature, make sure Faustus is placed in your hideout and that you have a Merchant tab, which can be created by converting an existing Premium tab.

Performing Basic Searches

The official trade website is the primary tool for finding items. Before searching, confirm that you are browsing the correct league. For fixed-name items such as gems or unique items, simply enter the item name and start the search.

The Show Filters option allows you to refine results without starting over. This becomes useful when comparing multiple items or narrowing down specific modifiers.

Searching for Gems and Unique Items

When searching for gems, players often want higher levels, quality, or specific transfigured versions. Use the filters under the Misc section to set minimum values. If you want an uncorrupted gem, remember to set the Corrupted filter to "No," as corrupted versions are often cheaper.

Unique items are easy to locate because their names are fixed. However, many uniques have variable stat rolls that can greatly affect their value. Before purchasing, identify which rolls are most important for your build and compare prices carefully.

Using Filters Effectively

Filters are essential when searching for rare equipment. By using Add Stat Filter, you can specify desired modifiers and set minimum values. The default AND setting requires all selected modifiers to appear on the item.

Budget-conscious players should also use price filters to remove expensive listings. Enabling Online Only or Instant Buyout Only can further speed up the trading process.

Live Searches and Currency Trading

For resistance gear, the Pseudo Modifier called Total Elemental Resistance is extremely useful. Rather than searching for exact amounts of Fire, Cold, and Lightning Resistance separately, this filter shows items that meet your overall resistance needs.

The Live Search feature is ideal for rare items or valuable bargains. It automatically notifies you when matching items are listed, helping you find deals before other players.

Selling Items Efficiently

The simplest way to sell items is through a Public Premium stash tab. Items can be individually priced or assigned a tab-wide value, making them automatically visible on the trade site. While forum shops still exist, they are rarely used today outside of extremely valuable items, and some players also compare prices when they want to buy POE currency as part of broader trading activity.

For most players, maintaining at least one Premium stash tab and utilizing Faustus for asynchronous trading provides the fastest and most convenient way to participate in Path of Exile's player-driven economy.
