1. The Core Reality of Launch Period: Every Map Is Full
On launch day, logging in is extremely difficult—it can take hours just to get into the game. By the time you're in, every map, every channel, at any given time, is packed with people. If you'd rather skip some of the early grind, you can buy MapleStory Classic World Mesos to get a head start on potions and gear.
This leads to two conclusions:
All KS rules and map etiquette go out the window. It's a free-for-all.
When reading training guides, don't just look at "which map has the best EXP"—also consider how crowded that map will be when you actually play.
Core trade-off: Stay in a popular map and fight for spawns, or go to a less popular map where you can actually clear spawns consistently? The latter is often more worthwhile.
2. Core Principle: The Classic EXP Meta Is Party Play
Always train in a party, including on Maple Island. Especially during launch when there are too many people and not enough spawns, partying is the only way to guarantee EXP efficiency.
3. Level 1-8: Maple Island
Complete all Maple Island quests, reach Level 8, and board the boat at around the 19-minute mark.
About the Chair Quest (Relaxer)
Rushers typically skip the chair quest, because the boxes that give screws and planks are limited and heavily contested, and they don't want to waste time hitting boxes in town.
If you want the chair, look for boxes that also give EXP—you can farm EXP while waiting for respawns and collect 2 screws and 2 planks. If you don't care about nostalgia, skip the chair quest and spend your time killing monsters instead.
4. Level 8-10: Around Lith Harbor
After boarding the boat, grind the last two levels to Level 10 at one of the maps around Lith Harbor.
Important Change: Magicians Now Need Level 10
Magicians used to job advance at Level 8, but now magicians must also reach Level 10.
Good news: Basic attack damage has been balanced. Zero-STR magicians on Maple Island no longer deal single-digit damage. You still do slightly less than classes that invest in STR and DEX, but the gap is small, making the leveling experience much better.
5. Level 10-21: Ellinia and Mushroom Trees
Job Advancement
At Level 10, take the taxi to Ellinia and complete your first job advancement as a magician.
Slime Tree
After advancing, head straight to the Slime Tree and stay for just over an hour.
Green Mushroom Tree
Then move to a neighboring tree with a mix of slimes and green mushrooms, then to the Green Mushroom Tree, where you'll stay for about 5.5 hours.
Why Not the Horny Mushroom Tree
Every map and every channel is packed, making it hard to get a decent spot. By this point you're Level 21, so the decision is made—go straight to KPQ.
6. Level 21-25: KPQ (Kerning Party Quest)
This is the most important recommendation in the entire route.
Why KPQ Is the Best Choice During Launch
KPQ is instanced: There's no limit to how many parties can enter.
The Bonus Stage is a private map: Your party of four can grind for 20-25 minutes without competing for spawns outside.
If the outside maps are too crowded, go to KPQ at Level 21.
Key Decision: Spam the PQ Itself or Grind the Bonus Stage?
Situation | Recommendation |
Party is strong, clears PQ in under 5 minutes | Spam the PQ itself—EXP is good |
Average clear time over 5 minutes | Stay in the Bonus Stage and grind—better EXP |
Reason: Spamming the PQ itself gives decent EXP but few potions. Grinding the Bonus Stage gives quite a bit of money from monster drops.
Stay at KPQ until Level 25, taking about 4.5 hours.
7. Level 25-30: Sleepywood Hidden Map
After KPQ, move to the hidden map in Sleepywood: Damp Forest.
Stay here for 6 hours and finally hit Level 30.
8. Complete Route Quick Reference
Stage | Location | Duration | Notes |
1-8 | Maple Island | ~19 min | Complete all quests; chair quest optional |
8-10 | Around Lith Harbor | — | Magicians also need Level 10 |
10-11 | Ellinia → Slime Tree | ~1 hour+ | Head there right after advancing |
11-21 | Green Mushroom Tree | ~5.5 hours | Horny Mushroom Tree too crowded, skip |
21-25 | KPQ | ~4.5 hours | Over 5 minutes? Grind Bonus Stage |
25-30 | Damp Forest (Sleepywood hidden map) | ~6 hours | — |
9. Practical Tips for Launch Period
Don't force your way into popular maps: If a guide-recommended map is full, a less popular map where you can clear spawns consistently is more worthwhile.
Always party up: The Classic EXP meta is party play, including on Maple Island.
Go to KPQ at Level 21: Instanced with no player limit, and the Bonus Stage is a private map—the most reliable EXP source during launch.
Use the 5-minute rule: If your party can clear the PQ in under 5 minutes, spam the PQ. Otherwise, grind the Bonus Stage.
Magicians can level to 10 comfortably: Basic attack damage is balanced, so zero-STR no longer means single-digit damage.
Take breaks: Efficiency drops during marathon sessions. A sustainable pace beats forcing yourself to continue.
Bottom line: 1-8 Maple Island, 8-10 Lith Harbor, 10-21 Ellinia mushroom trees, 21-25 KPQ (grind Bonus Stage if clears take over 5 minutes), 25-30 Damp Forest. When every map is full during launch, KPQ is the most reliable answer. If you'd rather save time on potions and gear, you can buy MapleStory Classic World Mesos, and for a reliable option, MMOEXP is worth checking out for secure delivery and competitive prices.
