Summary
Runefest 2026 just wrapped up, and Jagex revealed what may be the most packed year of content in Old School RuneScape history. From a new raid to a Mining and Smithing rework to a brand-new skilling dungeon, there's a lot to prepare for. If you need extra funds to gear up or stock supplies, you can also buy RS Gold from trusted sellers to get ahead. Here's your complete instructional guide to the 2027 roadmap—what's coming, when it's coming, and how to prepare.
How to Use This Guide
This roadmap is organized chronologically by release window. For each update, you'll find:
What it is – A plain-language summary
When it drops – Release window
How to prepare – What to do now so you're ready on day one
October 20, 2026: The Fractured Archives (New Raid)
What It Is
The biggest update in years—a new raid with eight bosses, though you'll only fight five per raid. The first and last bosses are always the same, while the middle three encounters follow a split path you can swap between.
Confirmed Bosses
Archive Guardian – Known for months
Ezekiel, Bourc, and Smort – Appears to be a Daganoth wizard / necromancer boss; possibly a Tormented Demon before its flesh burned off
Dreadnoth the Jellied – Concept art released
A hooded figure – Possibly Ocellus, a God Wars guardian
How to Prepare
Train combat broadly. With five bosses per raid and multiple paths, you'll want flexibility across styles.
Consider Demonbane weapons. If Tormented Demon-style bosses appear, demonbane will likely be relevant.
Expect a meta route to develop. Similar to Chambers of Xeric, some bosses will be skipped by learners but become faster for experienced raiders.
Best-in-slot rewards are confirmed, so this will be worth farming.
November 4, 2026: Hardcore Worlds
What It Is
A separate permanent game mode with fresh worlds and a fresh economy. You start a brand-new character with only one life.
Key Rules
No XP or drop rate boosts (unlike Leagues)
Death gives you two choices:
Reset entirely and start over
Be banished to the main game
Every area counts as unsafe death—the hardcore group Ironman ruleset applies
How to Prepare
Decide if you want in early. A fresh economy means early progress is extremely valuable.
Expect high-value items to be worth far more. Voidwaker, wilderness drops, and Doom rewards will carry massive risk premiums.
Plan your account build carefully. With one life, every decision matters.
Note: You don't need a new membership—you can reset on the same account.
November 2026: Quest Month
What It Is
Five new quests arriving throughout November, mostly novice and intermediate level with small scope. A graveyard quest is also confirmed.
How to Prepare
Clear your quest log. If you're behind on quests, catch up now so you can jump into the new content immediately.
No prerequisites announced yet, but expect some to tie into existing quest lines.
Winter 2026: The Chosen Commander (Dorgeshuun Finale)
What It Is
The culmination of the Dorgeshuun quest line (which began with Land of the Goblins four years ago). This also breathes new life into Dorgesh-Kaan, a long-abandoned city.
Key Rewards
Zanik's modified crossbow – A rune crossbow obtainable from a quest, great for Ironmen who don't want to venture into the Wilderness
New Post-Quest Content
1. Bandos's Throne Room
Fight goblin, orc, and ogre statues
Pitched as similar to Tormented Demons—not a boss, but advanced post-quest NPCs with appealing late-game rewards
2. The Gas Works
Help cave goblins spruce up their city
Requires buckets of sand (Ironmen, start stockpiling)
Combines Crafting and Firemaking—a rare combo
Builds reputation with cave goblins
Similar in scope to the Giants' Foundry
How to Prepare
Complete Land of the Goblins if you haven't already.
Stockpile buckets of sand if you're an Ironman.
Train Crafting and Firemaking in advance.
Spring 2027: Dungeons of Gielinor
What It Is
A collection of at least five new dungeon bosses placed into existing dungeon areas, filling gaps in the early-to-mid-game PvM ladder. This will be the biggest boss drop from a non-raid update ever.
Confirmed Bosses
1. Gemstone Dragon
Located on Varlamore
Mid-to-late game Slayer boss
Clear weaknesses (elemental or dragonbane)
New dungeon with hidden creatures, valuable resources, skilling opportunities, and environmental Easter eggs
2. Rip Gut
Early-to-mid game goblin boss
Introduced by a short quest
Fits between Brutus and Scurrius in progression
How to Prepare
Train Slayer. At least one boss is Slayer-locked.
Prepare dragonbane and elemental weapons.
Watch for the three unannounced bosses—they'll flesh out the PvM ladder further.
Summer 2027: Metapos (Desert Skilling Expansion)
What It Is
A massive skilling area expansion in the desert, gated behind a master-level quest called Fool's Gold (continuation of Beneath Cursed Sands).
Key Features
1. True Soul Altar
Requires 90 Runecrafting
A Soul Talisman will finally be added to the game
2. First-Ever Skilling Dungeon
Uses Thieving, Agility, and Runecrafting
Navigate traps, overcome obstacles, break through a mage's defenses
Comparable in concept to Hallowed Sepulchre and Corrupted Gauntlet
3. City Amenities
New cactus patch
A port (city is on the coast)
Possibly a high-level prayer altar hidden beyond city secrets
A new Slayer challenge
How to Prepare
Complete Beneath Cursed Sands to access Fool's Gold.
Train Runecrafting to 90.
Train Thieving and Agility for the skilling dungeon.
Expect this to be a major unlock—similar to Darkmeyer, Prifddinas, and Varlamore.
Summer 2027: Mining and Smithing Rework
What It Is
A long-overdue rework of two interconnected skills. Jagex acknowledges significant problems:
Making a rune platebody requires 99 Smithing—outdated and nonsensical
Smithing is never relevant for using the items you smith
Mining is less problematic but tied to Smithing
Why It's Complicated
Alch values prop up hundreds of drop tables. Changing requirements could destabilize the economy.
Ore rarity may need adjusting.
High alch values may need changing.
How to Prepare
Don't panic-sell Smithing materials yet. No details are confirmed.
Expect changes to training methods and item values.
Stay tuned for the summer sweep-up—Jagex will need to address many interconnected systems.
Summer 2027: Fairy Tales 3 – The Nexus of Power
What It Is
The finale to the Fairy Tales quest line (Growing Pains, Cure a Queen).
Key Rewards and Content
Fairy ring upgrades – Up to four character slots
New repeatable boss: Nexus Guardian
More reclined Runecrafting training method
How to Prepare
Complete the existing Fairy Tales quests.
Train Runecrafting if you want to benefit from the new method.
Watch for details on the Nexus Guardian—only the name is confirmed so far.
Autumn 2027: Tower of Zopherus
What It Is
The final wave-based challenge to earn a best-in-slot mage cape. Similar to the Inferno, Fight Caves, and Coliseum.
Key Details
Located in the Lassar Undercity (currently only used for The Whisperer)
Historically, Infeno requires Ranged, Coliseum allows multiple styles but final boss requires Melee
Likely a primarily Mage-based challenge, or Mage and Melee
How to Prepare
Train Magic extensively. This will be the ultimate Magic challenge.
Practice wave-based content like the Inferno and Coliseum to build endurance.
Expect months of practice to complete it—this is endgame content.
Ongoing and Smaller Updates
PvP tutorial – Coming in 2 days
Community Bingo feature
Sailing expansion – New diving content
Summer sweep-up – Annual quality-of-life improvements
Weekly QoL changes – Ongoing

Final Thoughts
2027 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years in OSRS history. From a new raid to a skilling dungeon to a Mining and Smithing rework, there's something for every type of player. The key to being ready is simple: train broadly, complete prerequisite quests, and stockpile materials where relevant. You can also get RS Gold from MMOEXP. As always, Jagex release dates are subject to change—but if even half of this lands on time, 2027 will be a year to remember.
