Path of Exile 2 1.0 Release Date and Full Release
Path of Exile 2 will officially leave Early Access and fully launch on December 11, 2026. Grinding Gear Games confirmed the 1.0 release date during Gamescom, marking the transition to the game's full release after its Early Access period.
The full release will bring major new content to Path of Exile 2, including the long-awaited Sword weapon type and the new melee gameplay systems showcased ahead of launch. Players can also expect new Sword skills, Parry, Stance Switching, Blood Stance, Sand Stance, and new interactions with elemental ground effects.
With Swords finally arriving alongside the 1.0 launch, melee builds are set to receive a significant expansion in how they approach combat. The showcase has already revealed several new skills and potential Unique Swords, giving players an early look at what to expect when Path of Exile 2 reaches its full release on December 11.
New Sword Mechanics in PoE 2
Parry and Stance Switching
Parry has existed in Path of Exile 2 in some form, but the 1.0 Sword gameplay appears to expand its role substantially.
Stance Switching is another major part of the new melee design. Players can switch between Blood Stance and Sand Stance, with skills interacting differently depending on the active stance.
Blood Stance is associated more closely with bleed-oriented gameplay and increased damage, while Sand Stance generally focuses on area-of-effect attacks.
This gives Sword builds another layer of decision-making. Players can potentially use one stance for clearing and another for dealing with tougher targets.
Ground Interactions
Swords can also interact with elemental ground effects.
For example, Cyclone can interact with existing elemental effects on the ground and spread them around the battlefield. This creates opportunities for combinations between Sword skills and other abilities rather than forcing players to use every skill independently.
New Sword Skills Coming With 1.0
Several Sword skills have already been shown, giving players an idea of how the new weapon type will function.
Blade Plunge
Blade Plunge allows the character to plunge a Sword into the ground and trigger buried blades. The skill can interact with several different effects, including explosions, lightning, blood ground, and Sand Discs.
Its multiple tags and interactions make it look like a flexible foundation for different Sword setups.
Earth Rend
Earth Rend gouges the ground with a Sword, creating a damaging fissure before a blade erupts at its endpoint.
When used in Ready Stance, it can create multiple blades along the fissure. The skill can also trigger buried blades and interact with effects such as lightning and Electrocute.
With an attack speed listed at 110% of base in the showcased version, Earth Rend could become one of the more accessible early Sword skills.
Hemorrhage
Hemorrhage takes the Sword's bleed potential in a different direction.
Hitting a bleeding enemy ruptures its bleeding for damage based on the physical hit. The skill also attacks separately with both weapons, making it particularly interesting for players experimenting with dual-wielding and bleed-focused setups.
The addition of stats such as Strike Range and the interaction with other bleed-related supports could give this skill plenty of room for scaling.
Echoing Strikes
Echoing Strikes is a buff skill that consumes Frenzy Charges to empower the next strike.
The empowered attack creates afterimages that repeat the same strike in additional locations. This could potentially work with automated trigger setups and high-block builds, creating interesting interactions between blocking, Frenzy Charge generation, and repeated attacks.
Blade Conduit
Blade Conduit turns the Sword into a conduit for lightning, creating a surging Nova around the character and leaving Shocked Ground behind.
This could become especially interesting when combined with weapon switching. A player could potentially use a Sword skill to create Shocked Ground and then switch to another weapon to exploit the resulting elemental effect.
World Cutter Could Become a Signature Sword Skill
Among the showcased abilities, World Cutter stands out as one of the most visually distinctive.
The skill channels the Sword before cutting through the ground, with each stage increasing the area of the attack. It also has its own attack time, making its scaling different from a standard attack.
The footage suggests that global attack speed can still influence the skill, but its unique attack-time mechanic could make World Cutter a particularly interesting skill to build around.
Rather than simply using it as one button in a larger setup, players may be able to create entire builds centered around maximizing World Cutter's damage and area.
