Today, we're doing a little bit of identifying in Path of Exile 2. For many players, the process is part entertainment, part gamble. One of the most famous items for this type of gamble is the Ventor's Gamble Gold Ring, a unique ring known for its wildly unpredictable modifiers. Because its stats can roll both positive and negative values across several attributes, each identification can result in anything from a worthless ring to a highly valuable item.

We decided to put this system to the test by identifying 72 Ventor's Gamble gold rings in one session. The goal wasn't necessarily to make massive profit, but rather to see if luck would deliver a rare "meme ring" or a surprisingly powerful item.
Why Ventor's Gamble Is So Unique
Ventor's Gamble is infamous among Path of Exile players because of how extreme its stat ranges are. Most items in the game have predictable ranges, but this ring is designed to be unpredictable.
Its key modifiers include:
Elemental resistances (Lightning, Cold, and Fire)
Item rarity percentage
Life and other secondary bonuses
Each of these modifiers can roll anywhere between large negatives and large positives. For example, elemental resistances can range from -40% to +40%, while the item rarity stat can roll from -25% to +25%.
This means every ring has the potential to be:
Extremely powerful
Completely useless
Or hilariously bad
Because of this randomness, many players treat Ventor's Gamble as a lottery item rather than a guaranteed upgrade.
The Goal: Finding the Perfect Ring
When identifying these rings, the player had several possible outcomes in mind.
The first goal was to find a "meme ring." This type of ring would have extremely large negative values across all resistances, such as -39%, -39%, and -40%, combined with reduced item rarity. These rings aren't necessarily good for gameplay but are amusing collectibles due to their absurd stat combinations.
The second goal was the opposite: a ring with extremely high positive resistances and positive rarity, such as +39% across multiple stats.
Finally, there was the dream outcome, a ring where every modifier rolls zero. Because the ranges include zero, it is theoretically possible for a Ventor's Gamble to spawn with no meaningful modifiers at all. However, the odds of this happening are astronomically low, making it one of the rarest potential outcomes in the game.
The Identification Process
With 72 rings ready to go, the identification session began using basic Scrolls of Wisdom. This approach keeps the process simple and avoids wasting additional POE 2 Currency before seeing the base rolls.
Almost immediately, the results showed just how chaotic Ventor's Gamble can be. Many rings rolled triple negative resistances, creating items that were effectively unusable. Others had mixed rolls, two negatives and one positive, or mediocre values across the board.
This pattern continued for quite some time, reinforcing a common feeling among players that the item might be "weighted" toward lower values. Whether that's true or simply bad luck is difficult to prove, but the early results certainly didn't inspire confidence.
The First Interesting Results
After several disappointing identifications, a few unusual rings finally appeared.
