This guide covers how to craft a high-end physical damage crit bow for Path of Exile 2. While this method focuses on crit bows, the same principles can be applied to non-crit bows as well – just keep in mind that non-crit bows tend to lose value over time.
Important Note: All crafting steps are also available in my written crafting guide (linked below), which covers other gear like quivers, amulets, and helmets.

1. Choosing Your Base
Best Bases
The two best bases for this craft are the Obliterator and the Warmer.
The Obliterator base has slower attack speed but extremely high damage, along with reduced projectile range – though that reduced range really does not matter in practice. The Warmer base offers higher attack speed but lower overall physical damage.
Recommendation: Prioritize Obliterator bases. It's the stronger option for most builds.
What About Other Bases?
You don't have to restrict yourself to just these bases. You can also use lower-tier bases like Twin Bow or Gemini Bow, as long as they have extremely high % physical damage. This method works on any bow base with good stats.
Item Level Requirements
The minimum item level you need is 75. While iLevel 82 is required for Tier 1 % physical damage, these bases can be too expensive to justify. Since Obliterator bases only drop in level 77+ zones anyway, they'll automatically meet the iLevel requirement – so you don't need to worry about this too much.
2. Initial Preparation: Stockpiling Bases
Where to Get Bases
You can acquire your bases in a few ways
Buy them directly from trade.
Pick them up off the ground while mapping.
Transmute white bases using Orbs of Transmutation. If you have Perfect or Greater versions available, use those instead.
The 3-to-1 Bench Trick (Crucial for Early League)
This is a method you should be using constantly – it's essentially free extra bases.
Collect all your Warmer and Obliterator bases – even the bad ones. When you have three magic bows, put them in the crafting bench and you'll get one unidentified magic bow back. Similarly, three rare bows will give you one unidentified rare bow back.
Why this matters: It's effectively gaining an extra base for free. This is especially valuable early in a league when bases are hard to find. Apply this method to other high-value bases too, like quivers or really good Energy Shield helmets.
3. Step-by-Step Crafting Process
Step 1: Augment for Double Affixes
Always start by using an Orb of Augmentation first. You want two affixes on the magic bow before proceeding – this gives you more value from your subsequent crafting steps.
Step 2: Apply the Essence
For Crit Bows (Recommended):
Use the Greater Essence of Seeking. This guarantees a critical strike modifier, which is exactly what you want.
For Non-Crit Bows (Early League only):
Use the Greater Essence of Abrasion. This works for non-crit builds, but I would only recommend this very early in a league. If you have a tier 4 or tier 5 % physical bow, you could use the flat physical essences instead – but be careful, as these can be very expensive. Currently in league, they're going for 10+ Divines each. Ultimately, you want to go for crit anyway, so I'd recommend just starting with the Seeking essence.
