Path of Exile 3.28: Infinite Regeneration Exploit Returns
Path of Exile 3.28 Mirage has brought with it an intriguing new tech, and this one is bound to stir up some controversy. If you've been playing long enough, you might remember the previous overpowered interaction between minion invulnerability and Affliction from the Selfish Shepherd unique ring. While GGG patched out this interaction, it seems the tech has found a way to come back stronger than before-this time with infinite regeneration through the combination of Affliction, Transfusion, and Soul Eater mechanics. Let's dive into how this new tech works and explore the insane power it brings to the table.

What is Affliction and How Does It Work
Affliction is a skill granted by the Selfish Shepherd's unique ring. This skill applies a physical damage-over-time (DoT) effect to your minions, causing them to take increasing amounts of physical damage. The catch? You get life regeneration equal to 20% of the damage being dealt to your minions. The longer your minions are affected by Affliction, the more damage they take, and the more regeneration you receive, scaling up over time.
However, there's a twist: Once a minion's life drops below 20%, it explodes, dealing physical damage in an area around it. It's a risky mechanic, but the idea is to build up regeneration while carefully managing the potential explosions.
When Path of Exile 3.23 introduced Selfish Shepherd, players immediately began experimenting with how the Affliction debuff interacted with minions. In 3.25, players began exploiting this mechanic using invulnerable minions from the Realms, fostering unique body armor. These invulnerable minions would continue to take increasing damage but could never die, allowing you to build up absurd regeneration values. This resulted in 35 million DoT damage and 7 million life regeneration per second, which was quickly hot-fixed by GGG.
However, the 3.28 patch introduces new possibilities with Transfusion, bringing a twist that could potentially break the game once again.
How Transfusion Works
In Path of Exile 3.28, a new support gem called Transfusion has arrived. This gem changes the way spells work by converting mana cost into life cost. Additionally, for every 200 lives spent on a spell, one soul is transferred to your minions. This is the key to a new, potentially broken mechanic.
Souls are a new mechanic that works similarly to Soul Eater, where each soul grants 5% increased attack and cast speed. Souls are consumed at a rate of one every 0.5 seconds if you don't gain new souls, but the kicker is that the maximum number of souls you can have is 45. At full capacity, your character gets a massive attack and cast speed boost. But here's the minion version of Soul Eater: For every soul, a minion gets 2% less damage taken. This means that at 45 souls, a minion receives a 90% reduction in damage taken. Combine this with the +5 to maximum souls gloves, and you can reach the maximum number of souls (50), effectively making your minion invulnerable to damage.
The Invincible Animate Guardian (AG) Setup
Now, let's take this crazy concept and apply it to one of the most beloved minions in the game: the Animate Guardian (AG). By equipping the +5 souls gloves on your AG, the minion can achieve 100% less damage taken once it accumulates 50 souls. The result? The AG becomes invincible.
Let's go over how this setup works:
Automation Setup: By combining Transfusion, Corrupting Fever, and appropriate multipliers, your character spends 256 life every time the skill is activated. This is enough life expenditure to grant a soul to your AG.
Soul Eater Effect: With the AG being the only minion, all the souls are directed to it, gradually building up its soul count. Every soul grants 2% less damage taken, and over time, the AG becomes completely invulnerable as it reaches 50 souls.
Affliction Application: By using the Selfish Shepherd ring, the AG is affected by the Affliction debuff. It starts to accumulate the physical DoT damage, but since it's invulnerable, it doesn't die. Instead, the regeneration ramp-up kicks in, increasing your life regeneration as high as 7 million per second once the damage-over-time cap is reached.
Testing the Setup
Once the setup is in place, the results are absurd. As soon as the 50 souls threshold is met, the AG becomes effectively invulnerable. With the Affliction debuff from the Selfish Shepherd ring, the life regeneration skyrockets. You'll see your regen climb to astronomical levels, with 7 million life regeneration per second being achievable, making this an incredibly powerful, albeit game-breaking, tech.
This setup works with minimal investment, and while you'll need to wait a bit for the souls to accumulate, once the process is running, your AG is practically invincible, and your regeneration is off the charts. The key benefit here is that you can take off the Selfish Shepherd ring once the Affliction debuff is applied, leaving the infinite regeneration running indefinitely.
The Potential Nerf
As much as this mechanic seems exciting, it's also highly likely that GGG will patch this setup. It's eerily similar to the previous invulnerable minion bug that was patched out in the past, and it could prove to be even more broken in terms of power. The combination of Transfusion, Affliction, and Soul Eater grants an almost unstoppable AG, capable of generating unlimited regeneration.
Given how quickly GGG responded to the last similar issue, it's only a matter of time before this setup is addressed in a hotfix. So, don't plan your builds around this tech, as it may be nerfed or patched soon.
While the infinite regeneration tech introduced in Path of Exile 3.28 may be one of the most powerful and broken setups seen in the game in a long time, it's clear that GGG won't leave this unaddressed for long. However, for those who enjoy pushing the limits of what's possible, this mechanic offers a glimpse into some truly absurd power. Whether or not it sticks around, it's certainly fun while it lasts!
