Summary
GGG has released Patch 3.29.2 with immediate improvements to Abyss farming, league mechanic scaling, and a new cursed ducat system coming next week. Abyss elites are now more rewarding with increased spawn rates, and abyssal crystals can be charged up to three times for better rewards. The upcoming cursed ducat system will allow players to customize voyage difficulty with up to three active ducats, ratcheting up quantity and rarity. This patch serves as a band-aid fix while 3.30's larger endgame overhaul is in development. To take full advantage, buy POE currency and stock up on scarabs and maps now.
Abyss Improvements
Elite Enemies and Reward Buffs
Elite enemies spawned by abyss pits now have higher effectiveness, making them more rewarding. On average, more elites will spawn per abyss pit, increasing both difficulty and loot potential.
Abyssal Crystal Changes
Abyss garb of crystals now causes every abyss pit in the area (except the final one) to spawn an abyssal crystal. These crystals increase the difficulty and reward of all subsequent abyssal monsters spawned from the pits. Previously, crystals only spawned on pits that had no reward, often resulting in very few spawning.
Charging Crystals
Shrouded items and crystal permutations can now be charged up to three times, gaining variant rarity each time. This is especially beneficial for more common uniques, giving players more control over their rewards.
Wildwood Wisp Changes
The amount of Wildwood Wisp gained by the player in Meridian Wildwood has been increased. Combined with the Abyss changes, this should make the experience feel more like Affliction league.
League Mechanic Changes
Offering Altar Improvements
Offerings to the deep altars will now display the chance they grant for certain currencies converting. These chances have been raised across the board. The altars will be individually less common, but the intent is that they will be significantly more noticeable when they do appear.
Enemy Mercenary Nerfs
Damage from several enemy mercenary skills has been reduced, with Conflagration specifically mentioned as an outlier that has been tuned down.
Crafting Bench Added to Menagerie
A crafting bench has been added to the Menagerie, providing another crafting option for players.
Cursed Ducat System (Coming Next Week)
How It Works
Six different cursed ducats will be added as quest items (non-tradable). The voyage UI will have three sockets, similar to voidstone sockets on the Atlas UI. These can be socketed to have up to three active at a time.
Effects
Each socketed ducat will ratchet up the quantity and rarity of items dropped in charts and voyages. They will also add difficulty modifiers, creating a "choose your own difficulty" system for voyages.
Player Agency
Charts and voyages can be opened without any ducats, but the system provides an avenue for players looking for more challenge. Deep water encounters will have a layer of customization, and players can easily avoid ducats with downsides their build is not prepared to deal with while making use of ones they can handle.
What This Fixes
The Scaling Problem
Previously, the main issue with the league mechanic was the gap between putting effort into different combos and saving up versus just running content—the difference was very little. There was no reason to do anything special. The new system gives players a reason to invest more for better rewards.
Varied Farms
With these changes, there should now be a bit more varied farms available. While the majority of larger changes are coming in 3.30, these band-aid fixes should provide more engaging content for trade league players.
Interview Takeaways
The Need for Band-Aid Fixes
Content creators and players expressed the need for some sort of band-aid in 3.29 specifically to the league mechanic and Abyss, so there would be something fun to farm and juice and scale characters for. These changes address that feedback.
Developer Communication
GGG released these changes just hours after the podcast interview, likely in response to community sentiment that there would be no changes. The quick turnaround shows they are listening.
Allflame Crafting
Andrew discussed Allflame crafting and is pleased with how it turned out. The system is particularly enjoyable for SSF players and changes how divines are used on various items.
What's Still Coming
3.30 Endgame Overhaul
The majority of larger changes are planned for 3.30, which will be a massive endgame shakeup. This patch is intended as a temporary fix to improve the current league experience.
Future Ducat System
The cursed ducat system is slated for next week, with six different options allowing players to customize their voyage difficulty and rewards.
Follow-Up Patch
A follow-up patch is planned for next week to implement the ducat system and address additional issues.
Final Thoughts
Patch 3.29.2 delivers much-needed improvements to Abyss farming, making elites more rewarding and crystals more impactful. The upcoming cursed ducat system adds a "choose your own difficulty" layer to voyages, giving players more agency over their farming experience. While 3.30's larger changes are still in development, these band-aid fixes should provide more engaging content for trade league players in the meantime. With POE currency on hand, you can capitalize on these changes and scale your farming efficiency as soon as the patch drops.
