Summary
If your build is finally strong enough to roast endgame maps in Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.5, the question is no longer what you can kill. It is what actually prints currency. Right now, the answer is City Expeditions. The setup is simple, the Atlas points are non-negotiable, and a single good map can pay out twenty divines. This is the setup players are running to pull more POE2 Currency than any other strategy in the league, and it may not survive a balance pass.
Why Verissium Remnants Are the Money Printer
Expedition already generates an absurd amount of raw currency in PoE 2, but one remnant type does the heavy lifting: Verissium. These remnants generate massive monster packs and slap huge bonuses to monster effectiveness and item rarity on everything they spawn. Other monster-generating mechanics like Breach, Abyss, and Ritual exist, but nothing juices a pack the way Verissium remnants do. That directly translates into divines on the ground.
The rule inside every expedition is aggressively simple. Collect every single Verissium remnant you can reach. If you can grab other mechanics along the way, great. If not, ignore them entirely. Move quickly, kill rares on the way, and skip the obsessive full-clear. PoE 2 does not have Eldritch alters yet, so there is no Atlas bonus tied to cleansing every pack on the map. Just clear the expeditions and the boss.
Atlas Tree and City Biome Setup
The Atlas setup has three non-negotiable expedition keystones. Take Double or Nothing Double for the 25 percent chance to add an extra runic modifier, Calculated Investment Power for the 25 percent chance Verissium remnants count as affected by a power rune, and Strategic Advantage Speed to basically eliminate bricked maps. With these points, players are reporting zero bricked runs since the setup came together.
The Steady Development choice comes down to extra Verissium remnant versus an extra explosive. With random city layouts from the Jao tablet, reaching every remnant is genuinely hard. The consensus is roughly 60/40 in favor of the extra explosive: it is better to fully detonate all the remnants you have than to chase an extra remnant you cannot reach.
City biome picks are where the setup flexes. Set Ezamir cities to Swamp for the node where Exalted Orbs drop as Chaos Orbs 10 percent of the time. This makes remnant clicks erupt with currency, and a single chain can dump forty exalts at once. Set V cities to Forest for extra rare monsters, and Faradun cities to Desert for the effectiveness bonus. Cities also unlock a fourth tablet slot, which is the whole point of running them.
The Boss Bonus That Turns Good Maps Into Big Scores
Two Atlas nodes stack to inject bonus citadel bosses into your runs. Warring Survivors gives a 20 percent chance of being invaded by another faction, and Warlord's Vendetta gives invaded cities a second 20 percent chance to roll an extra citadel boss. The math is low-odds, but the payoff is not: crisis fragments from those bosses are worth one to two divines for the ancient and weathered variants, and roughly ten and a half divines for the faded fragment. One lucky run has paid out around twenty divines in fragments alone from bosses that die in under a second.
Summoning circles are the other injection point. Spending points here lets a circle have a 5 percent chance to summon a random citadel boss instead of its normal reward. Summoning circles are normally mediocre, but in this exact build they are just another cheap shot at the fragment jackpot.
