ED Contagion has always been an amazing clearing build, but single-target damage was always the pain point. This build solves that problem with Flameblast.

Key Synergies

Flameblast gets 78% more magnitude of damaging ailments per stage from the Gemling's Advanced Thurgy. At 10 stages, that is 780% more ignite, poison, and bleed magnitude.

The Black Flame Covenant keystone scales ignite magnitude with chaos damage and wither magnitude. This turns purple flames into massive damage.

Contagion gets 97% more area of effect from alternate quality, making clear absolutely insane.

Essence Drain chains seven additional times, ensuring the clear spreads across entire screens.

The result is a build that clears maps as fast as ED Contagion ever has, while deleting 60 million HP bosses in a single Flameblast.

Defenses

Energy Shield and Recharge

This build has over 11,000 energy shield with an energy shield recharge delay of 3 seconds and 2,500 energy shield recharge per second. The recharge rate is so high that you rarely need to worry about sustain.

Convolescence

You have two charges of Convolescence with a 26-second cooldown. If your energy shield drops, just press the button and it refills instantly without interruption.

Temporal Chains

Blasphemy with Temporal Chains is one of your main defensive layers. Combined with curse magnitude nodes on the passive tree, everything around you is massively slowed. Enemies cannot hit you if they cannot reach you.

Low Life

The build uses Edzeri's Communion to reserve life instead of spirit, keeping you permanently on low life. This enables the use of Execute 3 support gems for 30% more damage and Techrot's Gaze for 16% movement speed on boots.

Virtuous Barrier

The Gemling's Virtuous Barrier gives mana regeneration and critical damage immunity against hits.

Intimidate and Seraph's Heart

Weapon

Rune Seeker's Call is ideal. Look for +9 to all spells, 75% wither magnitude from an Ancient Rune of Decay, and 350% spell damage.

Helmet, Body Armor, and Boots

Stack energy shield and resistances. The highest energy shield gear you can find is the priority. Boots should have two sockets with Techrot's Gaze and Feral's Rune of the Chases for massive movement speed (up to 24% total).

Gloves

Specifically crafted gloves with magnitude of withered and damaging ailments are incredible but not required. Regular gloves with high energy shield and resistances work fine.

Focus

Look for +2 all spells, chaos damage, spell damage, high energy shield, energy shield recharge rate, and cast speed.

Amulet

+4 all spells is ideal. Also look for spirit, spell damage, maximum energy shield, cast speed, and quality of all skills. Anoint Paragon for more skill quality.

Rings

Resistances and cast speed are the priorities. You can also get spell damage, area of effect, mana cost efficiency, and mana regeneration.

Belt

Mageblood is great but not required. Double Quicksilver for movement speed, Silver for skill speed, and Amethyst for chaos resistance.

Jewels

Rare jewels are cheap for this build. Prioritize maximum energy shield, fastest start of energy shield recharge, mana regeneration, and cast speed.

Playstyle

Mapping

Drop Contagion into a pack, then Essence Drain. Contagion spreads to everything on the screen. Everything dies. That is it.

200% Delirious Maps or Lower Damage

Drop three Dark Effigy totems, then apply Contagion and Essence Drain. The totems will machine gun everything down for you.

Single Target

Flameblast for 10 stages. Release. The boss disappears. Alternatively, place Dark Effigy totems, apply Essence Drain and Contagion, and let the totems do the work.

Budget Options

The minmax version shown here is expensive, but you do not need it to make this build work. ED Contagion is a classic league starter for a reason.
