PoE 2 Patch 0.5 Impending Doom Blood Mage Build Guide – Best One Button Chaos Build

POE 2 Jul-09-2026 PST

Summary

The Impending Doom Blood Mage is a one-button powerhouse that casts Elemental Weakness to simultaneously trigger Doom Blast via Impending Doom support and summon chaos toads through Doedre's Undoing. These toads leap around exploding for massive chaos damage, and with enough scaling both the doom blasts and toads reach level 40 for absurd base damage—all while you casually press a single button. This efficiency makes it an excellent build for farming POE2 Currency, as the low APM and high clear speed allow you to run maps consistently without fatigue, turning every hour into a steady stream of raw drops and sellable loot.

Build Overview and Playstyle

This is a one-button build. You primarily cast Elemental Weakness—that's it. The build handles both clear and single-target through the same ability.

How the loop works: Normally, Doom Blast requires a curse to expire on an enemy, which would be frustrating due to delayed damage. However, there is an interesting way to bypass this: when using Spell Cascade with enough increased Curse AoE, and using cursed ground from Doedre's Undoing, Spell Cascade will overwrite the cursed ground. This overwrite counts as the curse expiring, thus triggering Doom Blast. At the same time, Doedre's also spawns chaos toads that seek out enemies and explode for massive damage.

The result is one button for everything. Elemental Weakness on packs causes them to instantly explode—doom blasts are targeted AoE, and the toads add additional AoE explosions. On bosses, the sustained casting keeps the toads spawning and detonating continuously.

Defensive layers come from multiple sources: Blasphemy with Temporal Chains (70% slow at level 37), Arctic Armor as a passive melee deterrent, and Coalesscence as an active recovery button. With the Blood Mage ascendancy, you also get strong life sustain and the Crimson Power node turns chest energy shield into life.

Required Setup and Mechanic Explanation

The Three Core Supports

Impending Doom – This support triggers Doom Blast when curses from supported skills expire on the target. Doom Blast at level 40 deals 4655–8645 base chaos damage.

Doedre's Undoing – This unique support turns your curse into cursed ground in the targeted area. When cursed ground activates (which happens instantly with Windcream boots), it summons chaos toads. These toads leap toward enemies and explode. At level 40, the toads deal 3246–6029 base chaos damage.

Spell Cascade – This is what makes the whole loop work. Spell Cascade makes your curse cast cascade to either side of the original spell. Since cursed ground has a limit of two grounds at a time, casting Spell Cascade immediately overwrites the first cursed ground. That overwrite counts as the curse expiring, triggering Doom Blast, while the new cursed ground summons fresh toads. With rapid casting, you're constantly triggering both effects.

Why Blood Mage?

The Blood Mage ascendancy is perfect for this build for several reasons:

Sunder the Flesh – More than doubles the base critical hit chance of both Doom Blast and the toads (both have 7% base crit), allowing you to scale critical damage effectively

Life Remnants – Provides life recovery and sustain to offset the life costs of casting

Grasping Wounds – Adds survivability

Crimson Power – Converts energy shield on your chest piece into maximum life

This build uses Blood Magic (converting all mana costs to life) in conjunction with life leech and life remnants to sustain casting costs

Budget Considerations

This is not a budget build. The high-end version costs approximately 1200–1400 divine orbs, and even the "budget" version requires significant investment. Required components include:

From Nothing jewel in the radius of Conduit (critical for passive tree efficiency)

Time-Lost Sapphires with notable passives granting crit chance, crit damage, and curse area

The Vertex helmet with sockets for Idol of Eeshta

Gloves with 60% increased socket effect and Tecrod's Gaze

Level 40 Elemental Weakness (achieved through +levels from gear and Prism of Belief)

Sufficient spirit (around 206) for Blasphemy, Archmage, Mana Remnants, and Charge Regulation

If you are on a tight budget, please price check all components before committing to this build.

Stat Targets

Critical Hit Chance – Aim for 100% critical hit chance. This is achievable through the Thaumaturgic Generator and Charge Regulation nodes combined with well-rolled Sapphires.

Critical Damage Bonus – The high-end version aims for 946%+ critical damage bonus, closing in on 1000%.

Elemental Weakness Level – Level 40 is the target. You can check this via Arctic Armor as a workaround since Doom Blast doesn't show in-game tooltips properly.

Life and Mana – Target around 2400 life (resource purposes) and 3500 mana (survivability with Mind Over Matter).

Spirit – Minimum 206 for required persistent buffs.

Skill Gems Setup

Elemental Weakness (Main Ability) – Socketed with Impending Doom, Doedre's Undoing, Spell Cascade, and Efficiency 2. With level 40 Elemental Weakness and the cost efficiency setup, life cost is easily sustainable.

Blasphemy – Supports Temporal Chains as a passive aura with Magnified Area 2, Ritualistic Curse, Slow Potency, and Heightened Curse. At level 37, Temporal Chains inflicts approximately 70% slow.

Arctic Armor – Passive defensive aura that chills and freezes melee attackers, often freezing bosses that hit you multiple times quickly. Uses Cold Mastery, Knockback, and optionally Tool Stillness.

Coalesscence – Active recovery skill with Rapid Casting, Cooldown Recovery, Prolonged Duration, and Second Wind. Three charges give you reliable energy shield recovery.

Life Remnants – Optional mysticism support for additional power.

Passive Tree and Critical Scaling

The passive tree prioritizes critical strike chance, critical damage bonus, and spell damage. For the high-end version with top-tier jewels, you can skip many small crit nodes entirely. The budget version requires more careful allocation to reach crit caps.

Key Pathing: Efficient Excretions reduces Blasphemy's spirit reservation. The tree pathing leads through trigger spell damage nodes and cost efficiency nodes (Deep Trance provides 15% cost efficiency). A 20% cost efficiency node near the bottom of the tree is optional depending on your sustain needs.

Jewels Matter Most: In the high-end version, Sapphires provide the bulk of your stats—spell damage, energy shield, critical chance, and critical damage. Budget versions can use four-mod jewels ranging from 3–7 divines each rather than the 100+ divine variants.

Gameplay Tips

Ramp-up: In maps, you simply cast Elemental Weakness and everything dies. The chaos toads linger, leaping toward any remaining enemies.

Bossing: Drop Sigil of Power at your feet for the more spell damage modifier, then spam Elemental Weakness. The sustained toad spawns will melt bosses.

Life Management: If having trouble with life costs, use Cannibalism I support or an Ultimate Life Flask with T1 increased charges.

Defensive Usage: Use Coalesscence proactively if your energy shield drops. The two charges (three with quality) provide reliable recovery.

Conclusion

The Impending Doom Blood Mage is a masterpiece of build design—one button, screen-wide clear, and insane single-target damage. The frogpocalypse is real, and it is glorious. Just be aware of the significant investment required to make it work properly. For those with the currency, this build offers one of the most satisfying playstyles in Path of Exile 2 version 0.5.
