Summary
The Domination Scarab of Terrors enables one of the strongest boss-stacking farming strategies in Path of Exile. By turning shrines into additional map bosses, this strategy dramatically increases the value of Eldritch Altar rewards while also generating scarabs, maps, Astrolabes, POE currency, and valuable divination cards.
With a fast build and efficient maps, the strategy can reach 30+ Divines per hour while remaining relatively simple to set up.
Why the Domination Scarab of Terrors Strategy Works
Add 14 Extra Map Bosses to Every Map
The key to this strategy is the Domination Scarab of Terrors. It causes shrines to spawn additional map bosses, potentially putting around 14 extra bosses into a single map.
Normally, map-boss-related bonuses from the Atlas passive tree and Eldritch Altars are balanced around having only one boss. When a map contains dozens of bosses, those same bonuses become much more valuable.
The additional bosses also benefit from shrine effects, allowing you to clear maps extremely quickly while generating large amounts of loot.
You will mainly earn:
Scarabs
Maps and Nightmare Maps
Astrolabes
Eldritch Ember rewards
Currency
Divination cards
Additional boss loot
The extra bosses also appear to produce a strong amount of valuable scarabs and other high-value drops, making boss density the central advantage of the strategy.
How to Run the Strategy
Clear the Map Before Killing the Final Boss
Do not boss rush.
The ideal sequence is to clear the map efficiently and finish by killing the final map boss. This gives you more opportunities to encounter Eldritch Altars and select rewards that affect bosses
When an altar offers a strong boss reward, take it. Since the strategy creates so many additional bosses, these rewards can multiply extremely quickly.
For example, a valuable reward such as Grand Eldritch Embers can be applied across numerous bosses. A few good altar choices can therefore generate several Divines worth of additional currency in a single map.
Currency rewards can work similarly. Instead of picking up dozens of individual drops, multiple bosses can collectively produce a large amount of currency with very little additional clicking.
Prioritize Boss and Minion Altar Rewards
Red Eldritch Altars are particularly effective for this strategy.
When a boss reward is unavailable or unattractive, choose a minion reward instead. This helps avoid filling your altar reward pool with undesirable player penalties while keeping the strategy focused on boss-related rewards.
Blue Altars can occasionally produce enormous rewards, including rare Divine Orb outcomes, but these are extremely uncommon. Red Altars are generally more consistent because Grand Eldritch Embers are valuable and appear much more frequently.
Aim for approximately 3 minutes or less per map. The strategy works best through fast map turnover rather than slow, maximum-quantity clears.
Best Scarab Setup
The scarab setup is extremely straightforward.
Mandatory Scarab
Use:
1x Domination Scarab of Terrors
Pure Shrine/Divination Scarabs for the remaining slots
The Domination Scarab of Terrors is mandatory because it creates the additional bosses around shrines and allows your map-boss bonuses to affect them.
Other shrine scarabs are inexpensive, making the setup relatively cheap to sustain.
Why Not Use Pandemonium Scarabs?
Pandemonium Scarabs can also add additional bosses, but they are much less efficient for this particular strategy.
A typical map contains roughly 30–35 monster packs, meaning the number of additional bosses generated by Pandemonium is comparatively limited. Its much higher market price makes it difficult to justify when the cheaper Domination setup already produces excellent boss density.
The strategy is therefore built around cheap shrine investment rather than expensive additional boss scarabs.
Don't Use Astrolabes
One important part of the strategy is what you do not put into the map.
Do not use Astrolabes as part of the investment.
The reason is simple: the numerous bosses created by the strategy can naturally drop Astrolabes. By leaving them out of your setup, you turn Astrolabes themselves into one of your profit sources.
This creates an additional layer of income without requiring extra investment.
Best Maps to Run
Maps with an isolated or easily accessible boss are ideal because you want to clear the map quickly and finish at the boss.
Recommended Maps
Good choices include:
Mesa
Strand
Atoll
Bazaar
Beach
Tropical Island
Dunes
Mesa, Strand, and Atoll are particularly comfortable because their layouts allow efficient clearing before reaching the boss.
Bazaar can also be attractive if you want to target valuable Scrying Orb outcomes.
Beach is another excellent option thanks to its straightforward layout and isolated boss area.
Tropical Island and Dunes do not have completely separate boss rooms, but their layouts naturally place the boss toward the end of the map, making them suitable for the strategy.
You can also use Nightmare Maps if you prefer, although there is one important drawback: this strategy generates a large number of maps, including Nightmare Maps. Running Nightmare Maps means you will not benefit from the additional Nightmare Map drops.
Atlas Passive Tree Setup
The Atlas tree should focus on everything that improves shrines, scarabs, Eldritch Altars, and boss rewards.
Core Atlas Priorities
Take the major shrine passives and the important scarab nodes, including options such as:
Significant Troves
Chittering Champions
Amplified Artifacts
Other scarab-related small passives
For Eldritch investment, use the Eater of Worlds/Red Altar side and take the relevant altar passives, including Wrath of the Cosmos and Word of the Exarch where appropriate.
Word of the Exarch is particularly useful because it improves the chance of duplicating Eldritch Embers, which are a major source of profit in this strategy.
Add Map and Boss Nodes
Because you are killing large numbers of bosses, map and boss-related passives become especially valuable.
Invest into relevant nodes that improve:
Conqueror map drops
Boss rewards
Map sustain
Pack size
High-tier map generation
You can also invest in additional scarab small passives. If you want to incorporate another mechanic, these are the easiest points to move, but scarab investment is generally very efficient for this strategy.
Optional Scrying Orb Investment
If your chosen map has a valuable Scrying Orb outcome, consider taking Altered Prophecy.
This provides a chance for a Scrying Orb to drop when the map is completed.
The important limitation is that this chance applies to map completion, not every additional boss. Therefore, it is much less powerful than the boss-based Astrolabe generation.
Still, maps with exceptionally valuable Scrying Orb targets can provide an additional profit stream.
Map Rolling and Delirium
For standard maps, 8-mod maps are excellent for this strategy, particularly when combined with Delirium.
Delirious maps provide additional quantity and make the already valuable boss encounters even more rewarding.
If you are using Nightmare Maps, roll them for desirable modifiers and add additional juice when your build can handle it. More scarab-related modifiers are especially attractive.
The most important rule is not to overinvest to the point where map completion becomes slow. Your goal is still fast, consistent farming.
Final Strategy Checklist
For the simplest version of the strategy:
1. Use Domination Scarab of Terrors in every map.
2. Fill the remaining scarab slots with cheap shrine/scarab options.
3. Do not use Astrolabes; let the bosses drop them.
4. Choose fast maps with convenient boss locations.
5. Clear the map instead of boss rushing.
6. Finish with the final map boss.
7. Prioritize valuable boss Eldritch Altar rewards.
8. Take minion rewards when good boss options are unavailable.
9. Favor Red Altars for consistent Eldritch Ember income.
10. Aim for roughly 3-minute maps or faster.
11. Use 8-mod and optionally Delirious maps for additional profit.
12. Add Scrying Orb investment only when your map has a valuable target.
The strength of this strategy comes from a simple interaction: more bosses make normally mediocre boss rewards dramatically better. With inexpensive scarab investment, fast shrine-powered mapping, Eldritch Altar rewards, and natural Astrolabe and scarab drops, the Domination Scarab of Terrors setup can become one of the most profitable boss-stacking farms in PoE. To get started, buy POE currency and stock up on the scarabs and map materials you need to maintain consistent boss spawns.
