Naval Combat: The Foundation of PvP

The 70mm Shotgun Cannon

The 70mm shotgun cannon is the most underrated weapon in the game. It has three ammo types:

Regular Shells - Extremely strong for killing players. Switch to these once you have closed the distance and are ready to clear the enemy deck.

Slugs - The least useful of the three. They are okay for chasing players, destroying legs, and killing ironclads, but not your primary damage source.

Smoke Shells - The absolute king of PvP. These can win you fights easily. Smoke the enemy first, break the distance, get up close, and let your teammates pummel them while you clear the deck.

Tier Progression:

Rusty - Slowest reload, largest spread

Worn - Better spread and reload speed

Pristine - Best reload speed and spread

Experimental - Shoots two shots per reload

The 40mm Auto Cannon

The 40mm auto cannon is a beast at destroying tramplers and reactors. It has the highest DPS of all cannons and is your go-to for destroying enemy tramplers.

Ammo Types:

Regular rounds - Standard damage

Long-range rounds - Extended range but reduced accuracy

Low-recoil rounds - Easier to control

The 40mm lacks range, so use it only when you are up close. It eats ammunition quickly, so coordinate with your crew.

Tier Progression:

Rusty - Overheats fastest, worst accuracy

Worn - Better accuracy, slightly faster fire rate

Pristine - Takes longer to overheat, good accuracy, faster fire rate

Experimental - Overheating increases fire rate, making it insane for destroying tramplers

The 80mm Cannon

While useful, the 80mm is the least important of the three cannon types. It has four ammo types:

Regular Ammo - Standard damage.

High-Velocity Ammo - Shoots faster and further.

Proximity Fuse Ammo - Explodes near the enemy trampler, giving you more wiggle room if you miss.

EMP Rounds - Hitting the reactor turns off the enemy engine. However, EMP rounds are incredibly rare—in over 200 hours, you might only find six.

Best Uses for the 80mm:

Destroy enemy cannons with proximity fuses

Shoot enemy legs while they are running away to slow them down

Tier Progression:

Rusty - Very slow reload, bad accuracy

Worn - Good accuracy, slow reload

Pristine - Excellent accuracy, best reload

Experimental - Rail gun with no bullet drop, excellent for long-range leg shots

Finding Better Cannons

Free Method: Military ships scattered around the world have at least a 50% chance of spawning a worn cannon.

Best Method: Unlock cannons through your tech tree and Kaiser's shop. Pristine cannons cost three boxes of the appropriate type instead of one.

Boarding: When and How to Board

When to Board

The timing comes down to intuition, but here is what goes through my head:

Are they going to out-damage us?

Are they going to kill us before we can kill them?

If the answer is yes, consider boarding. Boarding can turn the tide by:

Taking Ammo - Removing ammo from enemy cannons buys your team up to 10 seconds of free damage.

Causing Chaos and Panic - Boarding causes the enemy crew to panic, stop shooting, and scream in comms. This buys your team time to get free reactor hits.

What to Do When You Board

Turn Off Their Engine - If you can reach the reactor, turn it off so they cannot move.

Use Empty Boxes - Take ammo out of their cannons to delay their response.

Hide and Wait - If you lose your trampler, hide inside with C4 and wait for them to come to you. Kill them repeatedly until they run out of weapons and armor.

Steal Their Trampler - Find the captain's quarters and interact with the desk for 10 seconds to steal their trampler. This prevents them from respawning and allows your team to respawn.

Engaging in Combat: When to Rush and When to Wait

Rushing the Enemy

The best time to rush an enemy is when they have just finished a fight and are already weak. Look for signs like orbital strikes in the distance.

Rushing Setup:

Use a smokeless energy rod to reduce your smoke signature by 95%

Use a red speed boost for a massive speed boost for 30 seconds

Approach while they are distracted and cannot see you

Example: Rushing a royal chassis (the strongest trampler in the game) immediately after a fight can result in a kill in under 30 seconds.

What to Focus Your Fire On

Every fight is different:

They are running away - Shoot their legs to slow them down

Free shots on reactor - Shoot the reactor

Large trampler with strong armor - Focus on wheelhouse and cannons first

Reactor well armored - Shoot compartments until you can hit the reactor

When to Be Patient

Never get stuck between two tramplers. Always ensure you are the third party, never the one being third-partied. If someone is behind you or to your side, boost away and let them fight each other. Then clean up the winner.

Experimental Items: The Highest Tier of Loot

Experimental Weapons

Orbital Strike Launcher - Calls down bombs from the sky after a 10-second delay. Each bomb hits for 2,500 damage. Best used when the enemy is immobilized or paired with a great silence.

Great Silence - A single-shot beam that turns off the enemy reactor if it hits. Takes about 1 second to charge.

Walk Bomb - The rarest and most powerful experimental. Creates a nuke-sized explosion after a 20-second countdown. Found only inside the dreadnought.

Experimental Utility Items

Smokeless Energy Rod - Reduces your smoke signature by 95%. Perfect for sneaking up on enemies.

Modified Energy Rod - Gives a huge speed boost for 30 seconds.

Smoke Grenade - Creates a massive cloud of smoke that covers entire tramplers.

Protective Dome - Creates a shield bubble that absorbs 8,000 to 10,000 damage.

Amplifier - Doubles the damage of all cannons within a 5-meter radius for 90 seconds.

Reflector - Creates a large wall that cannot be destroyed and blocks all incoming fire for 90 seconds.

Where to Find Experimental Items

The walk bomb can only be found inside the dreadnought. Every other experimental item, including the cannons, can also be found inside dreadnoughts. If you are unsure what the dreadnought is, look for video guides showcasing it and its secret loot room.

The modified energy rod has a unique spawn condition—it can be found by killing ironclads. If you are lucky, the box they drop can contain a modified energy rod.

For all other experimentals, there is a small chance to find them as loot on the ground in some Points of Interest. There is a slightly higher chance to find them behind red doors. Sometimes you can find a great silence, orbital strike pointer, or smoke grenade at the top of lighthouses.

Another great spot to find experimentals and pristine cannons is the black tarps and umbrellas. These can give you insane loot, but they are secret and not very easy to access.

Forts also have a decent chance to spawn an experimental somewhere around the area. If you find a fort storage room key, you can open the door for another chance at an experimental item.

Important: All experimentals, except the modified energy rod, can only spawn inside Storm Dive.

Organizing Your Trampler

Cargo Management

Use the page system in your cargo to organize supplies:

Page 6 - Store your cannons, cannon ammo, repair kits, and reflectors. This makes everything quickly accessible to get your ship up and running.

Pages 5, 4, and 3 - Each crew member stores their personal re-kit on their own page to avoid mixing items.

Re-Kits

A re-kit is a box placed inside your sleeping quarters containing spare guns, armor, explosives, and medkits. If you die, you want to be able to re-gear completely before leaving your sleeping quarters.

Food Storage

Place food in every storage container. If the enemy destroys only one cargo bay, you can still respawn as long as food remains elsewhere. They would need to destroy every single storage unit to stop your respawns.

Crew Roles

Cannon Reloader - Reloads cannons after every fight. If your cannons are not reloaded and someone else comes, it is game over.

Lookout - Always has eyes on all directions. No matter how much loot is on the ground, you always need someone watching because if anyone sneaks up on you, you lose everything.

Repairman - Handles repairs after fights. After a battle, every single person should repair before anyone loots. Get your trampler to 100% as fast as possible.

Emergency Supplies

Store orbital strikes, great silences, and smokes near your cannons for quick access

Keep a reactor room box with energy rods

Food in every storage container

Place your re-kit inside your sleeping quarters
