Orison Relief Support Event

Alpha 4.10.1 introduces the Orison Relief Support event following the recent Nine Tails attacks. Players can take part in a broad relief campaign designed to restore Orison while earning permanent rewards.

The event includes 14 new missions and contracts, with themed FPS armor and weapons available as rewards. The contracts all contribute toward the same reward progression, so players can choose whichever activities best suit their preferred playstyle.

The event is expected to run for roughly three weeks, potentially ending around October 7. Since the rewards are tied to a limited-time event, players interested in the unique armor and weapon skins should complete the missions before the event concludes.

Raven EX and Akuma Arrive

The Saber Raven EX has also arrived with Alpha 4.10.1. The single-seat fighter shares the standard Saber's hardpoint configuration but adds a quantum dampener, giving the ship additional utility for solo pilots. Its design and performance place it between the regular Saber and the original Saber Raven in several areas, including agility and survivability.

The ATLS Akuma is another limited-time addition. This special Geo variant features a long-range jump pack and plasma weapons but sacrifices some protection. It is currently sold as part of a bundle containing armor, FPS equipment, and themed skins. The visual design combines Nine Tails-inspired graffiti with samurai and cyberpunk elements, including dragon and demon motifs.

Pirate Week and Combat Testing

Pirate Week is also underway and is scheduled to end on September 28. The event features pirate-themed ship paints, gear, bundles, upgrades, and limited-time starter packages. Players can also participate in activities such as a treasure hunt and a Most Wanted poster competition.

Meanwhile, Cloud Imperium continues testing major changes to ship combat. The latest combat tech preview included an unusual 40% increased damage modifier for NPC-controlled ships, meaning NPC ships could take considerably more damage than player-controlled ships.

The tests are also examining shield values, energy weapon effectiveness, and the survivability of larger ships. At the same time, developers are looking for ways to make fighter engagements more decisive rather than allowing dogfights to continue for excessive periods. These changes remain experimental and are expected to evolve through additional testing and iteration.

Changes to Game Packages and Gifting

Cloud Imperium has also provided an update regarding game access, packages, and gifting. Between October 1 and November 1, players will have an opportunity to select a qualifying package containing access to Star Citizen, Squadron 42, or both as their primary game-access package.

Permanent unmeltable packages will become locked in this system. These packages cannot be melted or gifted, although players can still upgrade them. After November 1, the relevant selection will be locked, making the October window important for players affected by the changes.

Elevators Are Becoming Less Physical

A developer response has clarified another significant change: most Star Citizen elevators are no longer fully physicalized.

Following the transport refactor, many elevators now simulate movement by teleporting passengers rather than physically traveling through an elevator shaft. Only spline elevators, such as certain elevators at GrimHEX, continue to visibly move through space.

According to developer Duncan, there is little gameplay difference between simulated travel and physical movement for standard transport elevators, while physicalized systems can introduce additional bugs without providing meaningful benefits. The new system is intended to be more reliable and better suited to Star Citizen's ongoing development as an MMO.

The transport refactor has already been applied to locations including Area18, GrimHEX, and the Siege of Orison entrance. Vehicle elevators, including recent testing involving the Polaris, are also being evaluated.

Overall, Alpha 4.10.1 is another step toward improving Star Citizen's core systems while adding new content. Between the Orison relief missions, new vehicles, Pirate Week, combat experiments, package changes, and the transport refactor, there is plenty for players to explore, and players can also consider cheap Star Citizen AUEC when looking to build up their in-game resources as Cloud Imperium continues refining the game.
