Star Citizen's Ship Showdown 2956 is underway, allowing players to support their favorite flyable vehicles through creative submissions, gameplay activity, and daily voting for exclusive rewards. Players looking to upgrade their fleet more efficiently may also choose to buy Star Citizen AUEC to prepare for the event. Meanwhile, Alpha 4.10 PTU continues to improve stability and performance while introducing the versatile Arlington Lever Action Rifle ahead of its full release.
Ship Showdown 2956 Has Officially Begun
Cloud Imperium Games has launched the annual Ship Showdown 2956, one of Star Citizen's biggest community events. Running through September 2, the competition determines the most popular flyable or drivable vehicle in the game.
Last year's champion, the Polaris, returns to defend its title against a new generation of contenders. During the opening Victory Lap, players can once again view and purchase last year's finalists, including the Polaris, Asgard, Zeus ES, and Gladiator.
Only vehicles that are currently playable in Star Citizen are eligible. Concept ships cannot participate until they become fully flyable.
How Phase One Works
Phase One runs until August 14 and focuses on community participation. Instead of simply voting, players are encouraged to promote their favorite vehicle through original content.
You can participate by:
· Creating artwork, videos, screenshots, music, or custom models.
· Posting your creation to the RSI Community Hub or X (Twitter).
· Including both #StarCitizen and #ShipShowdown hashtags.
Outstanding community submissions can earn valuable prizes, including an LTI Alpha Wolf with Lifetime Insurance.
However, creativity isn't the only factor. CIG also evaluates gameplay activity such as:
· Flight time
· Ground vehicle usage
· Cargo hauling
· Mining
· Salvaging
· Combat participation
These combined metrics determine which vehicles advance to the next stage.
Sweet 16 Tournament and Voting
The top sixteen vehicles move into Phase Two, beginning August 18.
This stage features a single-elimination bracket where players vote every day to decide which ship advances. Matchups remain active for only 24 hours, making daily participation important.
The sixteen finalists are divided across multiple categories, including:
· Freighters & Transport
· Ground Vehicles
· Exploration
· Industrial Ships
· Combat Ships
· Alien Vehicles
· Warships
· Underdogs
After the first round, the Elite Eight become available during a special Free Fly Event beginning on August 26, allowing every player to test some of the community's favorite ships.
Daily voters also receive commemorative Ship Showdown Spectrum badges.
Eligible and Restricted Ships
Several promotional or limited-distribution vehicles are excluded from this year's competition, including the Esperia Glaive, Vanduul Scythe, Sabre Raven, Greycat PTV, and selected Argo vehicles.
One notable change is the Aegis Idris, which returns after being excluded last year because of server performance concerns.
Although the Idris may compete for the championship, it will not appear during the Free Fly event if it reaches the Elite Eight, helping reduce server strain during large-scale testing.
Newly flyable ships introduced since last year's event, including the Idris, Tevarin vessels, and Ironclad, are expected to become strong contenders.
Alpha 4.10 Continues Improving
Alongside Ship Showdown, Alpha 4.10 remains in Wave 1 PTU testing.
Current development focuses on:
· Stability improvements
· Server performance
· AI behavior
· Instancing technology
· Siege of Orison optimization
Developers have already addressed several major performance issues affecting Siege of Orison, while additional testing continues for hydrogen fuel balancing and quantum travel systems.
If testing proceeds smoothly, wider PTU access is expected before the live release.
New Arlington Lever Action Rifle
One of Alpha 4.10's most exciting additions is the Arlington Lever Action Rifle from Hedeby Gunworks.
This unique weapon transforms between two firing modes:
· Precision DMR mode
· Eight-pellet shotgun mode
The rifle features a 20-round magazine and gives players greater flexibility during both PvE and PvP combat, particularly inside Siege of Orison. Although the weapon is already playable, developers continue gathering player feedback to refine its recoil, sound effects, and overall handling.
Prepare for the Biggest Community Event of the Year
Ship Showdown 2956 combines creativity, gameplay activity, and daily community voting into one of Star Citizen's most engaging annual events. Players looking to strengthen their fleet during the competition may also search for cheap Star Citizen AUEC to prepare for new ships and equipment. At the same time, Alpha 4.10 continues moving toward release with meaningful performance improvements and new gameplay content.
Whether you're hoping to help your favorite ship become champion or testing the latest PTU updates, now is an excellent time to return to the Persistent Universe.
