Summary

WoW Forever has revealed a major look at its new map layout, with 73 maps compared with 59 in Classic Era. The expansion includes new dungeons, PvP battlegrounds, a Skyborn starting zone, and expanded areas across Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor. While players explore these new locations and prepare for future content, those following the broader WoW ecosystem may also be interested in WoW Midnight Gold and its role in the next era of Azeroth.

1. WoW Forever Has 73 Maps So Far

The newly available map data gives players a much clearer picture of how ambitious WoW Forever could become.

There are currently 73 maps, compared with 59 maps in Classic Era. Several are completely new locations, while others appear to be separate dungeon or event versions of existing areas.

The biggest additions include:

  • City of Doaran

  • Zephris Isle

  • Hyjal Crater

  • Dark Spear Islands

  • Excavation Site Wetlands

  • Ruins of Lordaeron

  • Battle for Gilneas

  • Riverglades

  • Skywatcher Plateau

Some maps are clearly unfinished, so their final purpose could still change before launch.

2. Zephris Isle Gives Skyborn a New Starting Zone

One of the most interesting additions is Zephris Isle, the starting zone for the new Skyborn race.

Unlike the traditional continents, Zephris Isle exists as a separate floating area. It includes several named locations, such as:

  • Port of Valinar

  • Shrine of Akir

  • Shandar Village

  • Ruins of Bonathal

The port also contains ships that could eventually connect Skyborn players with the main continents.

There is still plenty we do not know about how these connections will work, but the map suggests that Skyborn will have a very different introduction to Azeroth.

3. New Dungeons Expand Classic’s World

WoW Forever is also adding several new dungeon maps across different level ranges.

Ruins of Lordaeron appears to be a low-level dungeon built around the area where Undercity would normally stand. Meanwhile, Excavation Site Wetlands is designed as a much larger outdoor dungeon for characters around levels 24–29.

This is particularly interesting because outdoor dungeons can make new content feel more connected to the existing world instead of simply sending players into another isolated instance.

Other dungeon or event maps include Battle for Gilneas, Hyjal Crater, and Half Pint Tavern.

4. Eastern Kingdoms Is Getting Major Changes

The new Eastern Kingdoms map keeps much of the recognizable Classic terrain, but several areas have been expanded or rebuilt.

The most obvious changes include:

Gilneas: The area is now represented as a much larger location rather than the old placeholder structure.

Stormwind Harbor: The city finally has a proper harbor, opening the possibility of new boat routes and connections.

Riverglades: A huge new zone has appeared east of Redridge, connected through a newly built path from the Swamp of Sorrows.

Scarlet Enclave: Areas connected to Season of Discovery-style content appear around the Eastern Plaguelands.

There are also signs of future development in several unfinished parts of the continent.

5. Kalimdor Has New Zones Too

Kalimdor is receiving its own set of expansions.

The most noticeable additions include Skywatcher Plateau in northern Mulgore, new terrain around Hyjal, expanded areas near Stonetalon, and a new zone connected through southern Desolace.

The area north of Un'Goro Crater also appears to have been prepared for future content, although its exact purpose remains unknown.

Several previously unfinished areas have also received terrain or texture updates, suggesting Blizzard may be preparing them for quests, events, or future zones.

6. New PvP Content Is Coming

PvP players have another reason to watch WoW Forever.

Dark Spear Islands is a brand-new battleground designed around a clear Horde-versus-Alliance conflict. The map appears to feature multiple combat areas surrounded by water, creating a battlefield that looks very different from Classic’s existing PvP locations.

There is also a Winter Edition of Warsong Gulch, suggesting that some familiar battlegrounds could receive visual or gameplay variations.

Final Thoughts

The new WoW Forever map data makes one thing clear: this is much more than Classic Azeroth with a few extra quests. New zones, dungeons, battlegrounds, travel routes, and expanded world spaces are already visible.

Many areas remain unfinished, so their final forms are still unknown. But with 73 maps already present, WoW Forever is shaping up to offer a much larger version of the Classic world while keeping its original foundation intact. As players prepare for this expanded Azeroth, some may also look for WoW Midnight Gold for sale when planning their future adventures.
