1. New Warlock Mechanics
Warlock curses are now divided into Curses and Banes. Damage curses such as Curse of Agony become Bane of Agony, while Curse of Weakness and Curse of Exhaustion remain Curses. A Warlock can now maintain one Bane and one Curse on the same target, allowing combinations such as Bane of Agony and Curse of Exhaustion.
Explorer Imp also returns from Season of Discovery. Players can find special Fel rifts, send an Explorer Imp inside, and receive treasure containing items, gold, or other rewards. Its final role in WoW Forever may develop further.
2. Affliction Warlock
Affliction focuses heavily on damage-over-time effects. Suppression now improves spell hit while reducing threat, making it useful for both leveling and endgame encounters. Improved Corruption reduces its cast time and increases its damage, while Malediction boosts periodic damage.
DoTs can now critically strike, increasing Affliction's damage potential. Soul Harvesting can also improve mana regeneration after killing enemies affected by Drain Soul, making it particularly useful while leveling.
The major new ability is Ruin, which deals Shadow damage every second and increases damage taken from other Shadow DoTs by 10%. Nightfall remains important because Corruption, Drain Life, Drain Soul, and Ruin can trigger Shadow Trance, making the next Shadow Bolt instant.
The basic rotation is to maintain Bane of Agony and Corruption, use Ruin as the main filler, and use Drain Life when healing is required. The exact DoT refreshing and snapshotting rules remain uncertain during testing.
3. Demonology Warlock
Demonology receives a major redesign without simply adding Felguard as its main capstone. Demonic Sacrifice now provides a two-hour effect, while Demonic Pact prevents the sacrifice effect from being cancelled when another demon is summoned.
Master Demonologist can combine bonuses from the sacrificed demon and the active demon. For example, sacrificing a Succubus can provide Shadow damage while keeping an Imp active for additional Fire damage.
Demonic Knowledge increases spell damage and demon spell damage based on the Warlock's level. Soul Link still transfers 30% of damage taken to the pet and now also increases damage dealt by the Warlock and demon.
The key new talent is Decimation. Below 35% enemy health, Shadow Bolt or Searing Pain increases damage and triggers a faster Soulfire that costs no Soul Shards for 10 seconds. This creates a powerful execute phase and makes Soulfire an important part of the rotation.
4. Destruction Warlock
Destruction receives a Fire-and-Shadow-focused redesign. Bane of Havoc marks one target for five minutes, causing 15% of damage dealt to other targets to also hit that target, creating strong cleave potential.
Shadow and Flame encourages players to alternate spell schools. Conflagrate increases Shadow damage and does not consume Immolate, while Shadowburn increases Fire damage and refunds its Soul Shard.
Finally, Incinerate becomes a new filler spell that deals additional Fire damage against targets affected by Immolate. This creates a more active rotation based on maintaining Immolate while alternating Fire and Shadow abilities.
5. Warlock Spec Overview
World of Warcraft: Forever Gold gives all three Warlock specializations distinct gameplay. Affliction emphasizes DoTs and Shadow Trance procs, Demonology revolves around demons, Demonic Sacrifice, and Soulfire executes, while Destruction rewards players who can efficiently manage Fire and Shadow abilities.
